THE NORTHERN LIGHT

Session Highlights The Session met in stated meeting March 15, 2016. Rev. Dwight McCormick opened the meeting with pray-er and then read from the Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. Pastor’s Report: Rev. McCormick reported that he will be out of town on Sunday, May 8th. Session approved the request for baptism on April 3rd for Evan Whiteside (son of Ryan and Stephanie [Molnar] Whiteside). Finance Committee: Copies of the financial statement and balance sheet for February were distributed. The statement showed total income through February 29th was $40,321and total expense was $29,193, resulting in a balance of $11,192. Nominating Committee: the committee has a candidate to fill a vacancy in the session class of 2017. Session approved calling a congregational meeting for April 3rd for the purpose of electing a ruling elder to fill the vacancy and to nominate and elect a congregation-at-large member to the nominating committee. New Business:

Session unanimously approved having Northminster listed among the faith communities that are open and welcoming on billboards that Equality Springfield will display in June. Session will receive a “Triennial” visit from members of the Committee on Ministry of Miami Presbytery during the May 17th stated meeting; this visit is just for COM to check in with the church. The next stated meeting of Session is April 19, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Please continue to pray for the Pastor and Session as we serve this congregation and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Submitted by Lois Shroyer, Clerk of Session

Note from the Treasurer: Budgeted income after 2 months: $31,741. At the end of February we had an income of $37,458. Looking good! Budgeted expenses after 2 months: $32,605.

And we have spent $29,193. We can thank a mild winter with not much snow. Our investments took a hit, but are currently coming back. The “Building Repair” funds are coming in as expected and planned. Improvements are under way. See you next month. —Submitted by Bill Harrison

From the Pastor’s Desk continued….

September 4, 11, 18, 25-125th ANNIVERSARY CEL-EBRATION-a month of Sundays on which we’ll be celebrat-ing the 125 years of Northminster Presbyterian Church’s life and ministry. You’ve seen some of the photos from the past posted in the family room over the last few weeks. Have they sparked some memories? What piece of Northminster history is most important to you? What memories of your church family are most prominent? Do you care to share them with us? If so please contact the chair of our 125th anniversary cele-bration, Kate Smith. Other members who are helping with this event are Nancy Baker, Susan Dersch, Debbie Dodds, Judy Heaton, and Don Rankin. Please give them your input. They are planning fun and innovative activities to mark over a century of ministry in Springfield.

I look forward to seeing you in worship on Sundays at 10AM and at one of these several events as we move further into ministry with one another in 2016.

Peace of Christ be with you,

Dwight

BOARD MEETING

MONDAY, APRIL 4

10:00 AM

PW News There have been some changes to the PW Board. Two long standing members have stepped down after many years of service. Anne Hines and Ruth Martin have chosen to step down. Their service to the board as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, has been greatly appreciated. They have given their time and talents for many years. The Board wishes to thank them for this. Four new members have volunteered to work with the Board to continue their many projects. They are: Debbie Dodds, Nancy Baker, Judy Heaton, and Terry Rigio. Judy Heaton will serve as Treasurer and Terry Rigio will service as secretary. June Hughes has agreed to stay on as chairperson and Joan Generous has volunteered to remain as co-chair. We thank all of these ladies for their willingness to work on this important board. Both Esther Circle and Ruth Circle have agreed to take a more active role in helping to plan and host some of the Board’s activities. Esther Circle will host the next Christmas dinner and Ruth Circle will host the dinner this spring. It has been tentatively planned for May 6th, Friendship Friday. Please watch the weekly bulletins and upcoming newsletter for more details. The P.W. Board plans several activities each year including the Christmas Bazaar and summer garage sale. The new Board is looking forward to continuing with those events. The Board would also like to extend an invitation to all ladies in the church to come be a part of this board and/or its activities. We can always use help and ideas. Please consider being a part of these events as they take place throughout the year. If you are interested in helping, please contact any of the Board members listed above. Also, if you are interested in joining either Esther Circle or Ruth Circle, please attend the next meeting of the circle (listed to the right). Continue to watch the monthly newsletter and weekly bulletins for upcoming P.W. news. —Submitted by Terry Rigio, Secretary

Animal Welfare League Collection Do you have any towels/blankets/small rugs/mattress pads you would like to donate to the Animal Welfare League? You can bring them to church and place them in the designated boxes in the Family Room. Box-es will be available during the month of April. The AWL is a non-profit, no kill shelter serving Clark County. They start-ed in 1959 when a group of animal lovers joined together to help the

homeless dogs and cats of the county. Their shelter is located at 6330 Willowdale Road, just north of Lawrenceville, and is open Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon and Saturdays, noon to 2 p.m. The AWL feeds and shelters approximately 175 animals that are all spayed and neutered and have their shots. While their goal is to adopt all the animals at the farm, a shortage of good homes results in a number of permanent residents.

The next Deacons’ meeting will take place after worship on April 17th.

session Session meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month. The next stated meeting of Session will be April 19 at 7:00
