The Church was and is the centre of the Church of Ireland. It has been destroyed and rebuilt 17 times. It was substantially restored between 1834 and 1840 by Archbishop Lord John George Beresford and the architect Lewis Nockalls Cottingham.
This Cathedral, stands on one of the most ancient christian sites in the British Isles. Its origins date back to the year 445, whne St Patrick built a stone church on a hill.
Northern Ireland has some of the finest castles on the island. The earliest are from Norman times, but fortified homes continued to be built well into the 17th century - much of
Derry City dates from this era, including its encircling walls. Centuries of war, siege and expansion, have left a well-
