    City Clerk Absentee Voting Information

    name, address, address where theballot should be sent, your signature. Ifyou are requesting an Absentee Ballotfo r a Primary Election and you are anunenrolled voter (have no politicalparty affiliation) you must also choosea party ballot.Can someone else applyfor the ballot for me?Yes, a family member, close relative, orother person residing in the samehousehold may apply for a ballot to bemailed to you.How often must I applyfor a ballot?You must file a new applicationannually for one or all elections fo r thatcalendar year,Can someone help memark the ballot?Yes. I f you cannot read the ballot orcannot mark the ballot, anyone of yourchoosing can help you. The assistingperson must complete the brownenvelope with the voter's name andcomplete the assisting person sectionand state the reason the voter couldnot mark the ballot.I f I am permanentlydisable, can I always voteat home?Yes. Your doctor can write a letter thatyou must file with the City Clerk. Theletter must state that you arepermanently unable to go to the pollsdue to a physical disability. The CityClerk's office will automatically send you an application every year. Theapplication must be filled out with theCity Clerk every year.What is the deadline forrequesting an Absentee13allot?Applications for Absentee Ballots mustbe filed no later than 12:00 noon onthe day before the election.

The 150-foot area includes thepolling place, in the building where the polling place is located, on the walls thereof, on thepremises on which the building stands, or within one hundred and fifty feet of the buildingentrance door to such polling place. G. L. c. 54 , 65 . The "premises" on which thebuilding stands is further defined to mean only the grounds in the immediate vicinity of thebuilding, and does not include the entirety of a large parcel of real property. 950 C.M.R. 52.03(22)(c); 950 C.M.R 54 .04(22)(c).

    What is prohibited within 150 feet of a polling location: the posting, exhibition, circulation, or distribution of material-including pasters,stickers, posters , cards, handbills, placards, pictures or circulars-intended toinfluence the action of the voter at the current election; G. L. 54, 65; the solicitation of votes for or against, or any other form of promotion or opposition of,any person or political party or position on a ballot question, to be voted on at thecurrent election; 950 C.M.R. 52.03(22)(d); 53.03(18)(d), 54.04(22)(d) ; holding any campaign sign; handingany person literature intended to influence thevoter's action at the polls; wearing any campaign buttons or identifying signage;soliciting a person's vote for or against a candidate or question on the ballot; or,distributing stickers; . gathering signatures on nomination papers or initiative petitions. G. L. c. 54, 65.

    What is allowed within 150 feet of the polling place? Exit Polling Meeting and greeting voters by a person who is not a candidate at the currentelection.

    Who enforces the 150 foot rule? The presiding officer at the polling place enforces thevarious requirements of the 150-foot rule. The police person or constable detailed to eachpolling place protects the election workers and aids in enforcing the laws relating toelections. Furthermore, the preSiding officer at the polls may request that the police officertake into custody any person who by disorder! conduct interrupts or disturbs the
