Benne6 was chosen as the only elementary school in McKinney to host these visits. Our visitors walked through our classrooms and interacted with students and teachers. They were impressed with the learning environment that was evident in each classroom, the posiBve culture, differenBaBon, small group instrucBon, technology integraBon, and student focused learning that was taking place. The North Texas Regional ConsorBum is nine school districts, Allen, Coppell, Frisco, Highland Park, Lewisville, McKinney, Northwest, Plano and Richardson, focused on moving the educaBon system into the future.

2014-2015 McKinney ISD Alpha/Gifted and TalentedTesting Dates and Information
Referrals for McKinney ISD students are now being accepted for the ALPHA Gifted and Talented Program for the 2014-2015 school year.
Referrals for students in grades 1-5, who are not currently being served in the McKinney ISD Gifted and Talented Program (ALPHA) or who have not participated in the screening process in the past twelve months, will be accepted through Wednesday, January 28, 2015(elementary). The referral period is open and ongoing; students’ referred after the deadline will be evaluated in the following school year. New students, who participated in a gifted and talented program in their previous district, need to notify their MISD counselor of the GT services they were receiving. Those students will be evaluated according to MISD criteria, and, if qualified, will be placed in the program within six weeks of the ALPHA teacher receiving a referral form. Referral forms are available on each campus from the counselor or ALPHA teacher. They are also available on: www.mckinneyisd.net. Parents, teachers and/or students may nominate prospective candidates.

We will also incorporate talks about healthy lifestyle choices and character leadership. Together we can impact our community and our world.

Bear Extra Sessions ! Team Sports
Looking for students that are interested in playing team sports after school? We will play kickball, basketball, soccer, flag football and other student selected games. We will focus on great sportsmanship and teamwork. We will play outside when weather permits. Please feel free to bring a water bottle. Wednesdays - $50

Dodge Ball Come play dodge ball in a safe and cooperative way. While the competition will still be present, students will be able to play variations of dodge ball and dodge ball like games with sportsmanship and cooperation being the focus. Thursdays - $65

Bear Extras Fun Facts What are Bear Extras? Bear Extras are fun and engaging after school sessions taught by Bennett Elementary staff members in a safe and fun learning environment around the school. What times are Bear Extras? Bear Extras are taught after school from 3:30-4:30 on the day designated by the staff member(s) teaching the session. Where does my child go from 3:00-3:30? Students have 2 options:
• Option 1: Club 360 - This option is ONLY for students who stay after school and pay for the Club 360 after school daycare program. These students will be dismissed from the classrooms at 3:00 PM and will go to the Bennett Café from 3:00-3:30. A Club 360 staff member will monitor students until 3:30. At 3:30, the Bear Extra staff member will pick-up the students in the Bennett Café and escort them to their Bear Extra Session.
• Option 2: Homework Club – This option is for all students not
attending the Club 360 after school daycare program. These students will be dismissed from their classrooms at 3:00 PM and will go into the gym. A Bennett staff member will monitor and stay with these students from 3:00-3:30. At 3:30, the Bear Extra staff member will pick-up the students in the Bennett Café and escort them to their Bear Extra Session.
When and where do I pick-up my child after Bear Extras? Bear Extra Sessions end at 4:30 on their designated day. The Bear Extra staff members will escort Club 360 students to the Bennett Office to check in with Club 360. All other students will be escorted outside to the front of the school to be picked up promptly by 4:35. !!How often are Bear Extras offered each school year? Bear Extras are offered 4 times per year. Each Bear Extra sessions falls within a different nine weeks of school. Be sure to check out the Bear Extra sessions offered as they change and rotate throughout the year. How are the Bear Extras fees used? Bear Extras fees are used to cover the cost of the materials, supplies, and resources used for each session. The amounts per session vary depending on the materials, resources, and supplies needed for the students per session.
