Week 3 NAPLAN commences this week. ANZAC Day falls in the holidays this year. Our school has a long tradition of participating in the march. If you are not going away and are in Goulburn on the 25 April (which is the Thursday just before school goes back), please join us at 10.00am on the corner of Auburn and Clinton Streets where we will meet for the march. The march proceeds along Auburn Street and finish- es at the memorial in Belmore Park where stu- dents can be reunited with their parents. I hope you can join us. You will receive a note from your child’s teacher asking you to nominate a time you are available to meet. It is important that you return it as soon as possible so that you get your first preference of time. We are introducing student-led- conferences which means that your child will need to be present for the interview as well. When students lead their learning they take a lead role in understanding and communicating their progress when they reflect on their learning in front of parents. Student led conferences can also assist in increasing a child’s engagement in their own learning which has many benefits. The fireworks night is quickly approaching. I would like to thank our community members who are working hard to organise this wonderful event for our whole community. Don’t forget that you can still help out by serving on a stall for and hour or donating items (for example cakes, slices, good quality second hand items for Trash and Treasure or new items for the Chocolate Wheel). 100% of the profits made from the fire- works goes back into your child’s education. So have a look at the ways you can support this great event . Leonie Pearson

At this time of the year the staff at Goulburn North have many discussions about the organisation of
routines and events that run in our school. We make decisions that benefit the students in their ability
to reach expected outcomes. This can be somewhat challenging as we have many valuable pro-
grams to offer however time restrictions can inhibit the implementation of them.
Last year as part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning model we integrated student led PBL lessons
during peer support groups. This program had significant benefits for students as research has prov-
en that students’ learning is enhanced when they are learning alongside and from their peers. We
conducted this program under two models. The first took place as fortnightly lessons and the second
had it reduced to lessons twice a term. The best impact we saw of students embedding the Positive
Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations into their behaviour and language was when we conduct-
ed the peer support lessons on a fortnightly basis.
So that the time allocated to teaching the other Key Learning components of the curriculum isn’t im-
pacted by peer support groups. The staff collectively decided that altering our assembly times would
solve this. Starting in Term 2, the K-6 Friday assembly will be conducted on a fortnightly basis with
peer support PBL lessons occurring on the alternate fortnight. We consider this to be the best use of
time for our students.
During Term 1 we look forward to seeing you every week for our Friday assembly and as of Term 2 we will see you on a fortnightly basis. Towards the end of term, we will notify you which fortnight the assemblies will commence on.

Our whole school social skills focus is
respect others. Our aim is to encourage respect and co-operation with all staff,
in all situations within the school, so that we are in the right
place at
the right time, safe and actively involved in our learning.
Students in 5/6H have been honing their writing skills by following the Sentence-A-Day
program. They work on building a complete sentence each day that is interesting and has
great adjectives or adverbs, to improve their writing.
Our regional swimming
representatives, Lucy,
Ava, Charlotte and
Charlie.
The focus was joining two simple sentences with
a conjunction. For example:
James plays the piano well because he practises
every day. Ashley
We quickly helped Dad get the washing in be-
cause it started to rain. Olivia
Peter mowed the lawn while I cleaned the bath-
room. Libby
The children came inside because it was very
windy today. Vivian
Gerry would like to go with you but she has to go
to the dentist. Astin

Idea #3
Start having an Autumn Clean Out at home and donate any unwanted items to the school for our Trash & Treasure Stall. Think about donating any items that are no longer used, or
unwanted gifts that have been received. Please ensure that items are in a clean, good con-dition.
