Childcare Strategy Grant Funding Report
Report by the Director of Education
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 This report details the voluntary sector grants and phase 1 and 2 of childcare strategy grants awarded under the delegated scheme of authority to early years and childcare providers. The funding is allocated through North Lanarkshire’s allocation of Scottish Executive childcare strategy funding.
1.2 This report provides details of grants awarded in 2005-2006 under both grant programmes to those services involved in providing and supporting early year and childcare provision.
2. VOLUNTARY SECTOR GRANT
2.1 The budget made available in 2005/2006 for voluntary sector grants was €1 01,514. A total of 61 applications were received for the voluntary sector grants from voluntary organisations with requests totaling f231,854.78. Awards totaling f 102,985.65 were made to 59 applicants, with the additional funding being supported by childcare strategy funding.
2.2 Applications were weighted and prioritised on the basis of the extent to which they met the following criteria:
Meeting the needs of disadvantaged area Meeting the needs of disadvantaged groups Meeting the needs of a rural area The number of children offered a service The number of children with special circumstances offered a service.
2.3 Appendix 1 details grants awarded to community and voluntary organisations from voluntary sector grant funding.
3. CHILDCARE STRATEGY GRANT
3.1 The budget made available in 2005/2006 for childcare strategy grants was f307,OOO for general grants and €1 89,000 sustainability grants. A total of 67 applications were received for childcare strategy grant from early years and childcare providers with requests totaling €235,886.44. Award totaling f 166,831.09 were made to 43 applicants, over phase 1 and 2.
3.2 Applications were weighted and prioritised on the basis of the extent to which they met the following criteria:

Support given to the strategic areas of the Early Years and Childcare plan Employment - support for local people to access work and potential to create jobs Work Access and employability - demonstration of potential to access or create jobs for local residents Innovation - support for different or new activities
0 Sustainability - the likelihood of service/project continuing after the end of grant funding
3.3 Appendix 2 details grants awarded to early years and childcare services awarded grants from the childcare strategy funding.
