Connection Courses embodies the principles of connected learning

Three, Two, and One-Year Connection Classes :

• Music classes are a three-year commitment. • Foreign languages are a two-year program,

earning a Carnegie credit. We offer Spanish, Latin, and French. (7th & 8th Grade Years)

• Marketing and Video-Journalism are one-year classes. (For 8th graders only.)

Foreign Language Selection

~ Near the end of the year, 6th graders who scored the highest in LA will receive invitation letters and be given first choice in sign-up. ~ After that return deadline, all other 6th graders may apply for any remaining spots. ~ Students must remain in that class for 7th and 8th grade, and may elect to take a high school credit while still here in middle school.

Marketing and Video-Journalism

~ These two classes are year-long commitments. At the end of 7th grade, students may apply for a spot in one of these classes. Nota bene: All of our extended Connections are highly popular, and all will have waiting lists. When that opportunity comes, don’t delay!

Semester Connections (Preference forms will be given out after the first 2 weeks of

introduction of the connections classes. There is no guarantee of preferences.)

First Two Weeks of School: All 6th graders rotate to all connections to have a glimpse of what to expect, to see the locations, and to make decisions on year long classes.

Grading and Exams

Retake Policy: The higher grade will be placed in the grade book. Before a retest can be issued, a retest form has to be filled out, a re-teaching opportunity should be held, and the retest should be taken prior to the next major assessment. The grade, from the teacher-made final exam, may replace any common assessment grade that may be lower. Connections classes will allow one retake per class, each nine weeks.

6th Grade JLC is an overview of the Junior Leadership Corps. We introduce 6th Graders to JLC and the basics of working with a small team as both a "Leader" and in turn, a "Follower". We also provide them with some health AKS and conduct Physical Training two days each week. At the end of the class, we will conduct an Aerospace/Space Technology research project which includes presentations to their classmates.
