NORTH EAST WEEKLY 31st July 2014 www.northeastweekly.com Est. 1997 Issue 864 The Commonwealth Games have seen billions of pounds poured into Glasgow. On top of these billions a Central Belt Nats spending spree on new roads of £700,000,000, new railways of £700,000,000, plans put in place for a high speed railway between Glasgow and Edinburgh for £600,000,000 and a spare bridge at a cost of £1,500,000,000 plus many more vote inducing public money projects have been splashed out resulting in a bankrupted Government where Aberdeen and Shire Councils have had to come up with £150,000,000 to get the AWPR underway due to the Nats profligate political scheming. As the Commonwealth Games approached last week the Nats announced a further £80,000,000 spending on Glasgow which they say will create 30,000 jobs. While no one would begrudge anywhere in Scotland getting an economic boost of 30,000 jobs, the question that must be asked is why there is no help for the North East of Scotland when the Scottish Government’s own figures show this help is badly needed. Scottish Government figures state that 19 of the 20 most deprived areas in Aber- deenshire are in Peterhead and Fraserburgh, while the Central Peterhead area is seen as one of the most deprived in Scotland. Therefore, why is the Scottish Government not giving Peterhead and Fraserburgh the economic priority it is giving to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Answer, there are no votes to be bought in Buchan so the money that should be going into Peterhead and Fraserburgh is flooding into the Central Belt to boost the Nats votes. Further, the unelected crony cabal at Peterhead Harbours have recently spent £33,500,000 of Peterhead Community and EU funds without creating a single new job. In the meantime, the unelected crony cabal at the Harbours are planning to spend over £40,000,000 of Peterhead Community money on rebuilding a fish market that they needlessly demolished, again failing to create a single new job for the owners of the Harbours, namely the Community of Peterhead. It is in deed strange that the Scottish Government do not dispute that the owners of Peterhead Harbours’ Human Rights have been and are continuing to be broken regarding the removal of the Community’s democratic rights at Peterhead Harbours but Nats continue to allow an unelected crony cabal to squander huge amounts of community and EU money without creating a single new job, when their own figures show that 30,000 jobs should have been created. The town of Peterhead should have been one of the most prosperous in the world rather than being one of the soup kitchen capitals of Scotland.

The NSPCC’s Number Day is back and making it count
for children on 5 December 2014, encouraging and
celebrating learning through maths whilst raising money
to end cruelty to children across Scotland.
Number Day helps primary and secondary
school teachers deliver inspiring and interac-
tive maths lessons alongside fundraising ac-
tivities. Some of the resources have been
created in partnership with Oxford University
Press and will include number crunching
favourites like ‘Be the Boss’ and updated ver-
sions of ‘Who Wants to be a Mathionnaire?’
in addition to new activities, which this year
include early years.
Pupils of all ages and abilities can participate
in Number Day whether their strength is
tackling tangents and fathoming fractions or
showcasing their creative side with ‘Dress up
for Digits.’
NSPCC Schools Fundraising Manager, Karen
Walker, said: “Number Day is a great way for
children to engage with maths and support a
good cause whilst having fun. This year we
are excited to be introducing some new
Oxford University Press activities, starting
from early years through to key stage 4 so
why not sign up today?”
By taking part in Number Day 2014 and
raising money, schools will be helping the
NSPCC to protect children all year round
through its projects and services including
ChildLine – the UK’s free, confidential 24-hour helpline and online service for children and young people.
To register your school, visit www.nspcc.org.uk/numberday where curriculum-based maths resources will be available
to download from mid-October.

Cllr. Alan S. Buchan Aberdeenshire Council,
Peterhead North & Rattray Ward 5 Will be available for consultation - Saturday 2nd Aug 2014 - 9.30am-11am
at 10 Rose Street, Peterhead.
With the arrival of the school summer holidays, the trade associa-tion for the UK LP Gas industry (UKLPG) is issuing a timely warning to people planning a camping or caravanning vacation to avoid the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a colourless, odourless gas and is poisonous. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, drowsiness, dizziness, chest pains, nausea and vomiting. At high levels, carbon monoxide poisoning can cause sudden collapse, loss of consciousness and death. Every year around 200 people go to hospital with CO poisoning and sadly for around 40 of these, it proves fatal. A major cause of these incidents has been bringing charcoal bar-becues inside tents, but there is also a need to be vigilant with portable gas appliances, such as gas lamps and gas cookers, used in camping and caravanning. There has been a dramatic increase in the sale of gas barbecues due to their convenience and cost; up by 164% year-on-year according to one major DIY retailer. Rob Shuttleworth, chief executive of UKLPG, said: “Research, carried out by Gas Safe Register in 2013, found that many people do not understand the dangers of CO on holiday. Indeed, more than half of the people surveyed did not realise that a smoking char-coal barbecue in a tent, caravan, motor home or room can result in CO poisoning. More than a third did not realise that using a portable gas camping stove inside can be a potential danger and more than 20% did not realise CO can build up in a poorly ventilated space, such as a caravan, with working gas appliances in it.
