In a nutshell….we’re here to help you! Alliance members will not be required to join the NCAOA to become a member. The new fee structure will be: $10 for NCAOA members and $30 for non-members. As with MOWANC, the membership fee is per agency/individual. and provide for additional staff training and development. The Alliance was established to work in

Advocacy – Calvin Vaughn (Serving as the Senior Center Advocate and gathering support for Ad-vocacy with SC Professionals throughout the year. Taking part in Advocacy events, etc. Keeping Sr. Center Alliance members aware of advocacy efforts and opportunities on a National and State level, etc.) Marketing and Communications – Thessia Everhart-Roberts, Senior Center Alliance Committee Chair (Develop and distribute marketing materials regarding the Alliance as well as Senior Cen-ters. Present the Alliance and membership opportunity at AJI, NCAOA, Senior Center Symposium, etc.) Membership/Nominations – Torrey Blackmar, Senior Center Alliance, Vice-Chair (Work to secure Alliance Committee membership representation from across the state. Work with NCAOA secre-tary to have up to date membership roster. Conduct elections each January for Alliance Commit-tee Officers. Make recommendations to the Alliance Committee for voting of vacant committee seats. etc.) Mentoring/Training – Alex Langley (Planning Sr. Center Symposium, possible training/presentation at AJI or NCAOA conferences, other mentoring/training programs the sub-committee feels will benefit professionals throughout the year, etc.) Projects – Miranda Strider Allen, Senior Center Alliance Secretary (any special projects that may arise throughout the year not connected with current sub-committees) This could be fundraising for senior centers.
N.C. Division of Aging and Adult Services (NCDAAS) Representatives:
Leslee Breen is the NCDAAS senior center development specialist. Her professional background includes Executive Director of the Beverly Council on Aging and Senior Community Center in Mas-sachusetts and Contracts/Program Manager for the West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging. She is currently responsible for the management of the statewide senior center programs and operations funded with federal and state funds, management of the senior center certification process, compliance monitoring and senior center development. She received her BA in Psychol-ogy and a minor in Gerontology from the UNC at Greensboro and her MA in Gerontology from the University of South Florida.
Rebecca Freeman is the senior center program specialist for the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services. She manages the division’s senior center programs and statewide train-ing events, works with the senior center certification process, and manages the NC senior center listserv. Her career began at Resources for Seniors at the Northern Wake Senior Center. She later served as community services director for Communi-ty and Senior Services of Johnston County. She holds a Master of Public Health. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys teaching Les Mills BODYJAM™ and BODYPUMP™
and spending time with her husband and three children.

Meet the Director
Suzanne P. Merrill, MSW, is the director and former Adult Services section chief with the Di-vision of Aging and Adult Services. Ms. Merrill has been employed with the NC Department of Health and Human Services since 1985. Prior to her employment with state government, Ms. Merrill worked in the Forsyth County Department of Social Services for nine years as an adult services social worker and supervisor. She received both her BA in Psychology and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Mer-rill has numerous responsibilities in her current position such as oversight of the adult and aging programs and services administered by the one hundred county departments of social services; facilitation of strategic planning, program evaluation and system and resource de-velopment activities for North Carolina's aging programs; and coordination and collabora-tion with North Carolina's sixteen area agencies on aging.
