Varsity FootballThe yellow jackets are off to a strong 2-0 district start and look to knock off the Cross Plains buf-faloes tonight. Last week's win was the Jackets 500th program win and they plan to end senior night with number 501. The “One Team One dream” mentality has helped the jackets start the dis-trict strong with big wins over Baird and more recently Ranger by a score of 47-0. Expect emo-tions to run high tonight espe-cially for the seniors, who will be playing their last game in Yellow Jacket Stadium. The chili gang will be hosting a tailgate party for the MVFD before the game. Kickoff is at 7:30.

JH UILThe junior high academic UIL teams have been practicing hard getting ready for their district competition in December. Teams like the Math, Number Sense, and Calculator teams, as well as other have been meeting weekly during activity period with their respec-tive coaches to prepare for the meet. District competition will be December 1st and 8th.

Senior Spotlight

Albert Guerrero was born on October 16th, 1993. He was born in El Barrio! He attended Meridian ISD from Kinder-garten through 1st grade, left, and then returned his 7th grade year and will now graduate at the end of the year. He is the son of proud parents Rosie and Car-los Guerrero. In his high school career Albert is a man of many identities. Not only does he participate in football, bas-ketball, baseball, and track but he also is a member of the NHS as well as hav-ing participated in FFA and UIL Spell-ing. After leaving MHS Albert plans to, “Go to college start my career and get paid!”He plans to attend Stephen F Austin where upon graduating he wants to become a U.S. Marshall or a SWAT team member. Anything that will allow him to bust fools down in Compton! Albert does not currently hold an af-ter school job but he does find his own ways to make money, legally of course. He likes to play sports with his friends and chill with his crew Billy, Nick, Big Phil, Kasie, and Justin. But he gets along “mostly with everybody because every-body love me!!” Albert’s favorite sport is football, “Go Cowboys!” He likes to be crazy and he “likes to eat cuz I am a big boy!” Albert Guerrero is definitely one of a kind.

JV footballThe JV football team has con-tinued to work hard and get better in practice and is eager to show everyone just how much they have improved. They plan to prove that they have more than one win in the tank. With sophomore leadership from center/defensive end Ethan Sharp the JV has given a great scout team performance for the varsity during practice, making them better prepared for the teams they will soon face.

JH FOOTBALL

The 8th grade boys are undefeated (6-0) and in district (4-0). The 7th grade boys are (2-2). They both have been playing really good and the 8th graders are favored to win district champs. They both have been practicing really hard so both teams (7th and 8th) deserve to win district champs. They have two more games left in their season and if they kept playing how they are, the 8th graders will win district champs (DC) and the 7th graders will be fighting to become (DC) and have the chance to win it all.

Computer Applications fo-cuses on word processing speed and accuracy, skill in the use of database and spreadsheet applications, and the integration of all of these. Contes-tants have the opportunity to produce two printouts within a thirty-minute (30) time limit and the speed typing test (mandatory tie breaker). Each printout is assigned a weighted point value, based on difficulty, which will be so indicated on the contest paper. This is a technology based contest, and the goal is for students to have a thorough, working knowledge of these three applications and be able to complete substantial tasks in all of them and to direct data from one application to another. Students are expected to work beyond what they learn in BIM. I enjoy coaching Computer Applications seeing my students use the programs for their classes that I have taught them from any of my classes gives me great joy. “It is like a relay race. I give them the baton and they run with it as far they de-sire” says Joy Lohmer. Computer Applications is not a team event, but an individual contest. Students this year vying for the opportunity to compete include Kalyn Atchison, Jordan Felan, Wendy Orozco, Lucas Ramsey, and Christina Ticer.
