Norman Radican, LGBTI Project Officer, Alzheimer's Australia South Australia delivered this presentation at the 2013 LGBTI Aged Care Forum. The two day event offers a platform for discussion on national policy issues, mental and physical health and implementing sensitive quality care and service delivery.

The forum brings together LGBTI community leaders plus senior researchers on LGBTI issues in the aged and health care sectors, to share perspectives on good practice insights for real needs as well as strategies to build community and sector capacity. By 2050 almost 900,000 people in Australia will be living with dementia (Access Economics 2010)

If we conservatively say that the LGBTI

population is approximately 8 - 10% of the overall population then by 2050, there will 90,000 people living with dementia who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and

transgender, intersex

Approximately 20% of the more than 1000 people living with HIV in SA will develop HAD

(HIV Associated Dementia)
