Your Personal Essay
Please plan carefully. Give yourself plenty of time to write your personal statement.
Format for the essay: Font size = 12 Double-spaced No more than 2 pages
Write an essay that will provide a comprehensive picture of yourself.1) Introduce yourself by providing background information.2) Briefly state your academic accomplishments (ex. Honors/AP/AVID student,
academic awards).3) State your extracurricular activities such as jobs or volunteer work.4) Explain how these activities and accomplishments have shaped your life.5) State your future goals and objectives and include where you plan to go to
college as well as your intended major field of study (if you have decided).6) State your financial needs – explain why the scholarship will help you fulfill your
dreams. (very important).7) Be sincere and honest.
Towards the end of your essay: Express appreciation to the agency for offering money to a deserving student.
When you are done: Check for grammatical and spelling errors before turning in your scholarship
packets. After you have completed writing your best essay, let someone read it who can
be objective and will not mind offering his/her honest opinion.
Do NOT: Wait until the night before the due date to write your essay. Prepare it in
advance and save it on the computer so it can be revised and personalized for a specific scholarship.
