Overview

The first graduate nonprofit program in the USA, the Master of Nonprofit Administration (MNA) at the University of San Francisco, after 30 years from its foundation, have successfully developed its first short term study abroad program. Under the name, Academic Global Immersion (AGI), and with a focus on the comparative study of NPOs/NGOs/IGOs serving migrants and combatting slavery, the program engaged students through a carefully designed method, itinerary, and pre-post activities. The paper examines the advantages of comparative and cross-sector nonprofit studies for social impact in complex issues like refugee service and modern slavery.

1.  Nonprofit education can-should become more globally & locally (glocal) integrated.

2.  Experiential education can-should become integrated in nonprofit curricula along interpersonal growth and career development.

3.  Nonprofit academic programs can-should become catalyst for organizational partnerships and cross-sector (institutional) collaborations to address big societal problems.
