On the morning of Friday, May 24th, the youngest FCS

graduates of 2013 received their diplomas for their academic achievement of completing Kindergarten. Family and friends filled the FCS gym to watch the 5K students present a program that highlighted some of the things they had learned during the school year. The forty-four kindergart-ners can look forward to beginning their journey in primary school where they will continue to build relationships, learn new things, develop their God-given talents, and grow in the knowledge of the Lord through chapel and service to others.

The 3K and 4K students presented their year end pro-

gram on Thursday, May 23rd in a gym filled with family and friends. The young students sang songs, and recited scrip-ture verses and phrases. It was a heart warming presenta-tion as the children show-cased their talents with smiles and a great deal of energy!

New families, new curriculum, a new wing and weight room, and more! This has been a year to give much gratitude to God! Even in these difficult economic times, God contin-ues to keep His hand on Florence Christian School. I am most grateful

to Him and to our parents for their continued support. You can see below the highlights of our school year and various areas and personal achievements that we can celebrate as a fam-ily! In addition, our accreditation was renewed with flying colors. The accreditation team was very encouraging and spoke highly of what is happening at FCS. We are preparing for 2013-2014 with much enthusiasm as we move into our new 12,000 square ft. high school wing and look

forward to the changes coming in August! Please continue to pray for us as we seek to provide a “distinctly Christian” school with “academic excellence”.

In their English

class, Juniors pre-sented lyrical poetry using the elements of music and instru-ments. This was a part of a demonstra-tion of the applica-tion of literary ele-ments through lyri-cal poetry. The stu-dents had to expli-cate a poem (Christian song) and

then play the song on a CD player for all to listen to. Josh Larrimore and Chandler Huntley went the extra mile and brought in their personal instruments (banjo, harmonica, mandolin) to perform the song.

The senior Spanish

students teamed up using their knowledge and talents in present-ing a children’s story in Spanish and illustration to elementary classes.

Spanish students worked in teams to create a variety of

piñatas. This allowed them to dive a little deeper into the Spanish culture. They did a “fabuloso” job!

The 3K-5K students

shared some special time with dad or grandpa on Friday, April 19th! The “men of the hour” were presented with a book-mark and, of course, a donut and a drink! It was indeed a special morning for both dads, grandpas, and students.

Family and friends gathered on Wednesday, March

27th to watch 54 students be inducted into the Junior or Senior National Beta Club. Students must achieve and maintain a 90 average to meet the induction requirements. Seniors Moriah Berry, Austin Johnson, Katie Peake, and Luke Sterling gave a brief speech on four key attrib-utes of the National Beta Club: leadership, service, aca-demics and character.

Two chartered buses with forty-two 6th graders, par-

ents, and FCS staff traveled to Kentucky on May 1st for the annual three day CAMP OUT adventure. It was an ex-citing three days that included a tour of the Louisville Slug-ger Factory and Museum, friendly competition in laser tag, time with Dr. Carl Kerby and our annual overnight in the Creation Museum. It was a packed three days of fun but also a time of digging into God’s Word in a historical view of creation. This was the third trip we have taken and it only seems to get better! Thank you to all the parents who served as chaperones...you made the trip an even greater success! Plans for CAMP OUT ‘14 are underway...so get ready rising 6th graders….it’s your turn to prepare to see!!!

Over 500 students, faculty, and parents watched ten

young ladies and one father have a minimum of 8 inches of their hair cut off to donate to the national organization, Chil-dren With Hairloss. FCS donated over 160 inches of hair to the national organization as part of a special chapel that was held, Monday, May 6th in the FCS gymnasium. Four-teen local stylists from The Salon, Reflections, Ashley’s, Ulta, Eyecatchers Salon, and Visible Changes gave of their time to prepare and cut the donated hair in addition to giving each participant a haircut and style.

Participants included: Macy McArthur, Hannah McInnes, Katie Peake, Lillie Odom, Maggie Odom, Elizabeth Smith, Katelyn Munn, Saher Rishmawi, Melena Thomas, Mary Margaret Sterling and Eleni Bakas.

This is the third year FCS students and parents have participated in this special chapel which is sponsored by the FCS Student Government. Over the three years, the school has donated 625 inches of hair from 61 partici-pants. There was a number of participants who have given multiple times.
