INTRODUCTION • MORPH……?

the word morph means..?

• Nokia had introduced a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes.”

o Nokia morph is a joint technology concept, developed by Nokia Research Center(NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) nano science center.

o In 24th februrary,2008 NRC and UK had introduced concept of nokia morph to the global world at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

CONCEPT OF NOKIA MORPH

o Nokia Morph is a concept that demonstrates how

future mobile devices might be stretchable and

flexible.

o Nanotechnology that might be capable of delivering ultimate functionality i.e. flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

NANOTECHNOLOGYo DEFINITION:

“Nanotechnology is the

engineering of functional

systems at the molecular(nano)

scale.”

o 2 APPROACHES:

1. Top down

2. Bottom up

Page 7: Nokia morph technology

(Continue….)

• Nanostructure surfaces, such as “Nano flowers” naturally repel water, dirt, and even fingerprints utilizing effects also seen in natural systems.

VARIOUS NANOTECHNOLOGIES…

1. NANO-ENABLED ENERGY• “Nano grass” structures that harvest solar

power.

(FIG. NANO GRASS)

Page 9: Nokia morph technology

o Enhanced energy harvested and stored using

below materials:

1.Enhanced energy density batteries.

2. Super capacitors.

3. Nano wire solar cell.

4. Energy harvesting from RF using wideband of antennas.

2. SENSING SURFACES

o Nano sensors are used to examine the environment around them in completely new ways, from analyzing air pollution.

3. STRETCHABLE ELECTRONICS

• The nanoscale structure of the electronics enables stretching. Nanoscale internal structures controls the elasticity..

2. SELF CLEANING

o Nanostructure surface known as nano-flowers that naturally repel water, dirt and even finger-prints is used here.

4. TRANSPARENT ELECTRONICS

o The whole electronic circuit inside NOKIA morph is entirely transparent.

o Nanoscale electronics becomes invisible to the human eye.

5. HAPTIC SURFACE

• Buttons on the device surface are real 3D forms.

(FIG. BUTTON IN 3D ZOOM SNAP)

6. WEARABLE DEVICE

o The device would be so flexible that it can be bend into a wrist watch, so it can be worn around the wrist .

7. RECYCLING

o Utilization of biodegradable materials might make production and recycling of devices easier and ecologically friendly.

FUTURE SCOPE

• The shapes could be made much simpler like in Ring shape

• Morph in open mode could act as a keyboard for PC’s.
