Noise Report Feb 19, 2015
This NOISE REPORT provides an objective comparison of the
performance of the several types of A/C and companies operating
them at Frankfurt Airport in reference to their average type
level.
Noise values are calculated in accordance to DIN 45643 (3.1.2)
in terms of LAX expressed in units of dB(A). This unit of effective
noise takes into account, first the actual sound energy received on
the ground, second an approximation of the ears response to that
sound energy, and third a time duration value of the noise. If the
noise does not exceed the threshold of LASmax concerned a standard
value is used for calculation.
A/C are assessed and collected according to their
take-off-weight and theirICAO-Annex-16-Certification.
APPROACH noise caused by landing onRWY 25L is measured at MP01
located approximately 7 NM before threshold,RWY 25R is measured at
MP44 located approximately 6 NM before threshold,RWY 07R is
measured at MP05 located approximately 4 NM before threshold,RWY
07L is measured at MP14 located approximately 7 NM before
threshold.
DEPARTURE noise is measured in approximately 6.5 NM after brake
release at a gate of 2 monitoring points located approximately half
a mile left and right of the route.

TYPE LEVEL - SEE PART A
The TYPE LEVEL is an average noise level of all companies using
a similar type of A/C on particular approach respectively departure
routes. The sum of all * LAX caused by this type of A/C is divided
by the number of approaches or departures. The TYPE LEVEL allows to
differentiate between avoidable and unavoidable noise. It is the
measure used for all further comparison.
FLEET NOISE LEVEL - SEE PART B
Each company (recorded and identified by flight number) has its
own FLEETNOISE LEVEL. This is the sum of all LAXs recorded from
each indivdualcompany with a similar type of A/C and divided by the
number of measuredapproaches or departures.
RANK ORDER - SEE PART B
The RANK ORDER of each company depends on its FLEET NOISE LEVEL.
The company with the lowest average noise level on arrival or
departure is ranked number 1 with the other companies following in
order of their noise levels produced.
EXCESSES - SEE PART C
Flights producing sound levels double the TYPE LEVEL are
considered to have produced excessive noise i.e. when the sound
level is even more than 4 dB(A) above the TYPE LEVEL. These flights
were reported immediately to the company involved via the
Lrmschutz-Beauftragten of the Hessischen Ministers fr Wirtschaft
Verkehr und Landesentwicklung. These cases are listed again in part
C.
These are especially emphasized, since they could have been
avoided, except in special cases.
EXCEPTIONS
When special instructions from ATC to the pilot or emergencies
are the cause for excessive noise levels then these cases should be
reported immediately to the Lrmschutz-Beauftragten who will
determine if these were unavoidable noise levels and should be
removed from the calculations for that company.
METEOROLOGICAL INFLUENCES
Noise impact is to some extent influenced by the weather.
Therefore, thecalculation of TYPE LEVEL and FLEET NOISE LEVEL is
made without periods of extreme weather conditions. Extreme weather
conditions are relative humidity ( 30%), wind component( 20 knots)
and temperature( 25C), measured at the airport.
* i.e. in this case minus 5% of the quietest and minus 5% of the
noisiestflights
