Safety and the Firearm

Safety is a priority and expected of all gun owners. The following safety rules should be applied to the standard operation of this firearm. If there are any questions or concerns about the operational aspects of this firearm, please contact New Order Firearms® at 844-648-3695 prior to proceeding with the operation of the firearm.

All gun owners are accepting the responsibility when carrying a handgun. This firearm should be treated with respect, and owners should understand well the difference between life and death.

The following points are the safety responsibilities of the gun owner:

1. You are responsible for this firearm at all times.

2. This firearm is to be used for legal purposes only.

3. Before handling any firearm, understand its operation (this includes all individuals who have never handled a firearm or do not understand the operation).

4. Firearm security is your responsibility.

5. Always safely store and secure your firearm.

6. When not using the firearm, always lock out the firearm using the cable lock mechanism provided to you at the time of purchase.

7. Safe gun handling is the individual’s responsibility at all times, especially when storing and transporting.

8. Always keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. Do not place your finger inside OR on the trigger unless you intend to fire at a specific target.

9. Consider the firearm as if it is loaded and can fire at all times.

10. Make sure that there is adequate ventilation at all times when shooting.

11. Always wear eye and ear protection prior to and during shooting.

12. There is no safe way to discharge a firearm in a home or apartment. Bullets will penetrate walls, floors, furniture, and appliances, as well as cause serious injury or death. Any time there is an accidental discharge indoors, it always results in property damage or personal injury or possible death.

SAFE USE OF A FIREARM IS YOUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND THE FAILURE TO FOLLOW ALL OF THESE BASIC SAFETY RULES MAY RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR OTHERS. YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY DEVICE WHEN IT COMES TO THE USE OF YOUR FIREARM. NEW ORDER FIREARMS® WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE THAT RESULTS FROM (1) THE CRIMINAL OR NEGLIGENT USE OF THIS FIREARM; (2) A DISREGARD OF THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS; (3) IMPROPER OR CARELESS HANDLING OF THIS FIREARM; (4) THE USE OF NONSTANDARD, DEFECTIVE, IMPROPER, OR RELOADED AMMUNITION; OR (5) IMPROPER OR NEGLIGENT MODIFICATIONS AND REPAIRS TO THE FIREARM.

Being a Safe Shooter

• Do not try to change your firearm’s trigger pull, because alterations of the trigger pull usually affect sear engagement and may cause accidental firing.

• Never use a firearm that jams or fails to function properly. If this happens, please return handgun to the dealer or New Order Firearms®.

• If your shot sounds weak or underpowered, it could mean a bullet is in the chamber/bore. You should immediately unload the firearm, disassemble the slide from the frame and the barrel from the slide, and then check the chamber and bore for obstructions before firing again.

SAFE USE OF A FIREARM IS YOUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND THE FAILURE TO FOLLOW ALL OF THESE BASIC SAFETY RULES MAY RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR OTHERS. YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY DEVICE WHEN IT COMES TO THE USE OF YOUR NEW ORDER FIREARM.

Safety Features

Striker Status Indicator The NO9 firearm has a RED cocking indicator in the rear of the slide (See figure 6). When the firearm is cocked, the pin will be flush or protrude out of the rear of slide through the slide cover plate (See figure 7).

Please Note: The cocking indicator does not always mean that the firearm is loaded or unloaded. Always handle the firearm as if it is always loaded and follow proper safety guidelines.

CAUTIONHOWEVER, WHEN THE PIN IS OUT, ALWAYS CONSIDER THE FIREARM AS IF IT IS LOADED.

Trigger SafetyThe trigger safety prevents the trigger from moving backward. It is a lever that was incorporated into the trigger (See figure 8) that deactivates the safety when completely depressed while pulling the trigger. The trigger can only be pulled if depressed together with the trigger safety lever (See figure 9).

WARNINGNEVER RELY ON THE SAFETY. ALWAYS ASSUME THE FIREARM IS LOADED. SAFETY DEVICES, LIKE ALL THINGS MECHANICAL, CAN FAIL. SAFETY DEVICES ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SAFE FIREARM HANDLING. SAFETY IS THE RESULT OF THE OWNER WHEN HANDLING THE FIREARM WITH THE UNDERSTANDING OF FOLLOWING THE RULES FOR SAFE FIREARM HANDLING.

Safe Storage and Transportation

Remember: The firearm that you have purchased is solely your responsibility! You must always maintain safety with the storage and transportation of the firearm. In addition, there is a list of points that are the responsibility of the owner and should always remain in consideration at all times. The following points are the responsibility of the firearm owner:

• Always follow the firearm laws in your state.• Always store your firearm and ammunition separately.• Never transport a loaded firearm. • It is imperative that the firearm is secure to prevent

unauthorized access.• Never lock a loaded firearm.• Always lock your firearm with the chamber in its open position

and locked back.• When holding the firearm, make sure that the muzzle is pointed

within a safe direction away from others and yourself (preferably at the floor and away from your feet).

WARNINGIT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER FOR THE SAFETY OF YOU AND OTHERS, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, THAT THE FIREARM IS STORED IN A SAFE PLACE AT ALL TIMES. THE FIREARM SHOULD BE LOCKED UP AND UNLOADED WHEN NOT IN USE. YOUR FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE SAFETY POINTS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Page 12: NO9 Operation and Safety Manual - …neworderfirearms.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/N11385_NO9_Man… · Model and Features Identification ... IS LOADED. SAFETY DEVICES, LIKE ALL

12

Ammunition

It is your responsibility to make sure that quality ammunition will be used in your firearm. We recommend using only factory name brand ammunition. Do not use reloaded ammunition at any time, since it can be dangerous and will void the factory warranty. This firearm is equipped to shoot carry/personal defense loads up to +P from a manufactured name brand source only.

The recommended carry/personal defense loads are meant for self-defense only and not for target practice and running an excessive amount through your pistol.

We recommend a break-in period for the pistol using 124gr FMJ or TMJ ammunition for a period no less than 250 rounds. This will allow the pistol to break in and allow the user to use lighter factory manufactured loads such as 115gr FMJ or TMJ.

WARNINGDEATH, SERIOUS INJURY AND DAMAGE CAN RESULT FROM THE USE OF INCORRECT AMMUNITION OR BORE OBSTRUCTIONS. NEVER USE RELOADS OF ANY KIND. SUSPECTED USE OF RELOADS WILL NULLIFY THE WARRANTY.

Your firearm and ammunition work cohesively together when the proper ammunition has been inserted into the firearm. The firearm that you are carrying requires a specific type and a specific gauge or caliber. It is important to understand selecting the proper type of ammunition for your firearm. Please make sure that you speak with the dealer to discuss the correct power, velocity, and bullet weight for your firearm and application.

WARNINGNEVER USE NONSTANDARD, RELOADED, OR “HAND-LOADED” AMMUNITION WHICH HAS NOT BEEN SUBJECTED TO INTERNAL BALLISTIC PRESSURE TESTING. RELOADED OR HAND-LOADED AMMUNITION MAY HAVE MANY MANUFACTURING AND QUALITY VARIABLES (SUCH AS THE TYPE AND AMOUNT OF GUN POWDER). ANY AMMUNITION THAT IS IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED, EVEN IN THE SLIGHTEST DEGREE, MAY FAIL TO FIRE OR MAY GENERATE EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURES, WHICH CAN DAMAGE OR EVEN RUPTURE THE FIREARM, CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OPERATOR OR THOSE IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY.

Page 13: NO9 Operation and Safety Manual - …neworderfirearms.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/N11385_NO9_Man… · Model and Features Identification ... IS LOADED. SAFETY DEVICES, LIKE ALL

13

Different combinations of bullet velocity, bullet weight, and firearm weight can have major impact on felt recoil. The high felt recoil can be uncomfortable to some shooters. Always consider the following to include acclimating oneself with a firm two-handed grip when firing and starting your shooting experience, as well as using the lowest bullet velocity and lowest bullet weight for your handgun. Stay high up and into the grips, and do not allow your hand position to drop down, having a large gap or space between your hand and the pistol frame.

WARNINGNEVER USE AMMUNITION OF THE INCORRECT GAUGE OR CALIBER. USING AMMUNITION OF THE INCORRECT GAUGE OR CALIBER MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR FIREARM AND POSSIBLE SERIOUS INJURY TO YOU AND TO OTHERS.

“Plus +P” and “Plus +P+” ammunition generates pressures in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect the wear characteristics or exceed the margin of safety built into some firearms and could therefore be DANGEROUS.

WARNINGNEVER USE CARTRIDGES OTHER THAN THOSE DESIGNATED BY THE MARKING ON THE BARREL. DOING SO CAN RESULT IN DANGEROUSLY HIGH PRESSURES THAT MAY DAMAGE THE FIREARM AND POSSIBLY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS.

Finally, some brands of ammunition may cause difficulty in extracting spent cartridge cases from the chamber. If this situation occurs, thoroughly clean the chamber with solvent. If this condition persists, we recommend changing to another brand of ammunition. Prior to cleaning, make sure that the firearm is unloaded and that you are wearing safety eye wear. DO NOT use steel-cased ammunition or ammunition with a Polycoat or plastic-encased cartridge. This will cause the pistol to jam or malfunction. Steel-cased ammunition may cause extracting and extractor failure.

14

Inspecting the Firearm

WARNINGALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE FIREARM IS UNLOADED BEFORE INSPECTING!

Prior to inspecting your firearm, make sure that it is unloaded. Please see the sections on Unloading and Fieldstripping the firearm prior to inspecting if you are not experienced in these procedures. In addition, if you are not experienced in these procedures, you should receive training from an expert marksman familiar with the New Order Pistol or a similar semi-automatic pistol in order to properly handle your firearm. Procedure for inspecting the firearm:

1. After you have checked the firearm to make sure it has been unloaded, point the muzzle in a safe direction (preferably downward and away from your feet).

2. Make sure the magazine well is empty by depressing the magazine release button and dropping the magazine onto the floor.

3. Grasp the serrated sides of the slide from the rear with the thumb and index finger.

4. Draw the slide fully rearward in order to extract any cartridge from the chamber as well as the pistol.

5. Do not obstruct the ejection port because doing so can interfere with ejection of a cartridge.

6. Lock the slide in the open position. This can be done while moving the slide to its most rearmost position while pressing upward on the slide release stop.

7. Again make sure you have dropped the magazine from the firearm.8. Check the barrel chamber to verify that it is unloaded. Never look

down the muzzle of the barrel to check for ammunition.9. Check the bore visually for any obstructions, and using a pen/pencil,

reach into the breech area side of the barrel and check for any ammunition in the chamber. The ammunition will vary in color from a shiny nickel plate to a brass color.

Page 15: NO9 Operation and Safety Manual - …neworderfirearms.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/N11385_NO9_Man… · Model and Features Identification ... IS LOADED. SAFETY DEVICES, LIKE ALL

15

10. Examine the breech face. IF THE FIRING PIN IS PROTRUDING, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LOAD OR FIRE THE FIREARM. Take your firearm to a gunsmith qualified to perform service on your New Order Firearm, or call for factory support and service.

11. Always inspect your firearm prior to it leaving your hand, cleaned, handed to another person, and/or transported or stored. Always transport with the firearm unloaded and locked out with the cable safety lock provided with the firearm.

12. Unload the magazine by holding it with the bullet end of the cartridge pointing away from you toward the ground and away from your feet and others, pressing each cartridge forward and out of the magazine.

Preparation for Firing

WARNINGTHE FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE FIREARM SAFETY REQUIREMENTS WILL CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR OTHERS.

• Always treat your firearm as though it is loaded.• All actions of the firearm are to be open. The chamber is clear of any

cartridge or shells, magazines are removed or unloaded, and the firearm is pointing in a safe direction. Never point your firearm at any person.

• Always keep fingers and other parts of your body away from the muzzle, pistol slide, ejection port, and any other potential danger points on the firearm.

• Always wear adequate, proper ear and eye protectors specified for firearm use to prevent permanent damage to your hearing and eyesight. Make sure others who are near you are wearing ear and eye protection.

• Always wear safety glasses specified for firearm use, whether indoors or outside. Safety glasses should protect your eyes from the firing flash and particles associated with the discharge of ammunition. Failure to do so creates a risk of personal injury from particle or debris spitting or ricochets.

• Always be alert and always follow the safety instructions of the range officer or any other personnel. Never shoot if you are tired, cold, and/or impaired in any way.

• Always be aware of other people and your surroundings, so that other people do not accidentally walk into the line of fire.

• The shooter and all others in the firing area must always be in a position that is out of the line of fire and not within an area where they may be struck by ricochets, particles splitting from a firearm, and/or ejected casings.

• Never shoot at the sky, hard surfaces, or water. Always select a place to shoot that has a safe backstop and is free from obstructions and water surfaces, which cause ricochets.

• Never use alcohol or drugs before or during firing or handling any firearm. This could lead to serious accidents or death.

Loading and Preparation for Firing

This section discusses how to load and prepare your handgun for firing. It is important to remember that when loading your firearm, DO NOT TOUCH THE TRIGGER and KEEP YOUR HANDS, FACE, AND FINGERS AWAY FROM THE MUZZLE. Follow these steps when loading your handgun:1. To load your magazine: You will place the rim of the cartridge on the

front of the follower (See figure 10). Then, push down on the follower and slide the cartridge under the lips of the magazine completely to the rear. Load successive rounds by pushing cartridge down on previously loaded cartridge. Make sure that you are using clean, dry, high quality, and original commercially name brand manufactured ammunition.

2. To load your pistol: Pull the slide completely to the rear until it locks back by means of the slide release lock lever by pushing upward with the slide at its rearward and back position.

3. Take the loaded magazine and place into the bottom of the firearm handle grip. When inserting the magazine, make sure that it is properly seated. You will hear a click.

4. Once you have locked the magazine in place, release the slide by depressing the slide release or pulling back and releasing the slide. You will now have a round of ammunition in the chamber area.

5. CAUTION: Please know that at this point the firearm is live and ready to shoot. Take caution not to point in any direction until you are ready to shoot.

6. As mentioned in this owner’s manual, make sure that you have the proper ammunition for your firearm. If there are any questions as to the ammunition, contact the dealer with whom you have purchased the firearm or call New Order Firearms® Customer Service.

CAUTIONNEVER SLAM THE MAGAZINE INTO PLACE OR USE EXCESSIVE FORCE BY DRIVING THE MAGAZINE INTO THE MAGAZINE WELL FORCEFULLY. USE A RESPECTIVE AMOUNT OF FORCE WHEN INSERTING THE MAGAZINE.

WARNINGDO NOT MANUALLY INSERT A ROUND INTO THE CHAMBER OF THE HANDGUN! THIS MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE EXTRACTOR. ALWAYS LOAD THE FIREARM USING THE MAGAZINE. REMEMBER TO POINT THE MUZZLE OF THE HANDGUN IN A SAFE DIRECTION WHEN LOADING IT.

7. Finally, the striker status indicator will be protruding out of the rear of the slide and slide cover plate (See figure 11) in the cocked position.

WARNINGTHE HANDGUN IS NOW LOADED AND READY TO SHOOT! ALWAYS KEEP FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION WITH MUZZLE AWAY FROM YOURSELF AND OTHERS. DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY CAN OCCUR IF THE FIREARM IS MISHANDLED AND THE USER IS NOT FOLLOWING PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.

Firing

Prior to firing, make sure that you are wearing the right eye and ear protection that is specific to operating a firearm. Anyone that is within the area should also have eye and ear protection. Make sure that the muzzle continues to be pointed in a safe direction away from yourself and any others.

WARNINGTHE SHOOTER WILL HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR THE NOISE AND RECOIL UPON FIRING THE HANDGUN.

1. The firearm should be pointed in a safe direction.2. If not already done, load cartridge into chamber from magazine

following the procedure discussed under Loading and Preparation for Firing.

3. Maintain a firm grip on the firearm, making sure to point it in a safe direction at the target by aligning the sights.

4. Place your finger on the trigger and slowly squeeze the trigger to fire the handgun.

5. The firearm will continue to automatically be ready to fire again until all of the cartridges have been fired.

6. When last cartridge has been fired the slide will lock open and remain to the rear.

This is an auto-loading handgun. It is immediately loaded and ready to fire again after each shot until all cartridges loaded in magazine have been fired. The handgun is able to fire both with and without magazine in place.

WARNINGREMOVING THE MAGAZINE DOES NOT UNLOAD THE HANDGUN NOR DOES IT ENGAGE A SAFETY. THE FIREARM IS NOT UNLOADED UNTIL THE MAGAZINE IS REMOVED AND THE CHAMBER IS EMPTY WITH THE SLIDE LOCKED IN ITS REARMOST POSITION!

Fieldstripping

Prior to disassembling, cleaning, or any type of maintenance on your firearm, it is critical that you fieldstrip it. This makes sure that it is completely unloaded, to include the magazine and chamber. While performing fieldstripping, make sure that you wear eye protection at all times.

CAUTIONTHE HANDGUN HAS THE ABILITY AND WILL FIRE WITHOUT THE MAGAZINE BEING IN PLACE. Follow these steps to fieldstripping the firearm:1. Always point the firearm in a safe direction and away from yourself

and others.2. Remove the magazine and unload your firearm. 3. Draw back the slide to the rear stop position and lock it open,

thumbing up the slide stop lever, locking the slide in its full rearward position.

4. Visually inspect the chamber to confirm the handgun is unloaded.5. Rotate the slide take down lever clockwise to a vertical six o’clock

position (See figure 15).6. While firmly holding the slide, pull the slide slightly to the rear to

release the slide release stop. Then again, while firmly gripping the slide, allow the slide to slowly move forward until the spring tension is released. Pull and release the trigger with the firearm pointed in a safe direction to fully unlock the slide from the frame (See figure 16).

7. The slide will move slightly forward. Release the trigger once, and then pull on the trigger again while grasping the slide and pulling very slightly forward.

8. Move the complete slide assembly forward and off the frame (See figure 17).

9. DO NOT USE excessive pressure on the trigger or slide while performing this function. The slide should lightly come off of the frame slide rails.

Make sure that you wear safety goggles at all times when reassembling the handgun! To reassemble the NO9, follow the previous instructions, except follow in reverse order.

Rear Sight Adjustment

The New Order pistol comes with a standard three-dot sight system. It includes a front and rear sight, where the front sight remains fixed (See figure 18). The handgun has a set screw located in the middle (See figure 19). Loosen the set screw prior to moving the rear sight. Tighten the set screw after the sight has been adjusted to the desired position. The Allen key/wrench 5/64” has been provided to you at time of purchase for the rear sight adjustment. The rear sight is adjustable for windage only. To adjust, move the rear sight in the direction you wish the firearm to move on the target. For example, if the group should move to the left, move the rear sight to the left.

Care and Cleaning

WARNINGMAKE SURE THAT YOUR HANDGUN IS UNLOADED BEFORE BEGINNING TO CLEAN IT. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RULES FOR SAFE GUN HANDLING. IN ADDITION, PLEASE SEE THE SECTION FOR UNLOADING WITHIN THIS HANDBOOK.

New Order Firearms® recommends that you keep your firearm clean at all times! There are several points to adhere to when cleaning your firearm. • Never disassemble your firearm beyond the instructions within this

book found under “Fieldstripping Disassembly of Unit.”• Always purchase cleaning supplies from your firearms dealer that

are specifically designated for your type and caliber of firearm. We recommend that you use Hoppe’s 9 cleaning agent.

• Only clean your firearm with a non-abrasive cloth.• Use a high quality gun oil to lightly coat your firearm after it has been

cleaned.• Do not oversaturate your firearm with too much oil. This may cause a

malfunction.• We recommend placing drops of oil on the rail, sear, firing pin and

trigger areas.

Materials Needed for Cleaning the Firearm: Cleaning rod of proper size with bristle bore brushes (fiber or brass) Cleaning solvent–wet (Hoppe’s 9 recommended) Lubricating oil (We do not recommend bake-in types of oils.) Cloth patches Bristle brush Small, lint-free cloths for wiping and oiling

WARNINGWEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING SOLVENT. THOROUGHLY WASH YOUR HANDS TO REMOVE POWDER AND SOLVENTS AFTER CLEANING YOUR FIREARM.

28

Cleaning the Firearm

1. Point firearm in safe direction.2. Remove magazine and empty chamber.3. Separate cartridges from firearm before cleaning operation.4. Open slide and visually check that chamber and magazine well are

free of cartridges.5. Double-check the chamber and barrel again for any cartridges. If

you’re still unsure, do not proceed with cleaning, and take your pistol to a gunsmith for cleaning procedures and also proper handling of your firearm.

6. Disassemble firearm as described in the “Fieldstripping Disassembly of Unit” section.

7. Use cleaning rod and run solvent-wet patch through barrel several times.

8. Attach solvent-wet bristle brush to rod and run back and forth the full length of barrel as needed until clean of grease and dirt.

9. Clean barrel with dry patches and examine it. If necessary, repeat barrel scrubbing. Barrel fouling can contribute to reduced accuracy, and grease accumulation in the chamber can interfere with proper feeding of cartridges from magazine.

10. Using wet solvent on a clean patch, remove powder residue from all components of mechanism. If grease or dirt cannot be removed by wiping with patch, use solvent-wet bristle brush.

11. Next, wipe scrubbed areas with solvent-wet patch.12. After cleaning, run dry patch through barrel, and then follow with

lightly oiled patch.13. Wipe all surfaces clean with cloth, and then wipe all surfaces with

lightly oiled patch (or cloth).14. Reassemble firearm. Remember, an improperly assembled firearm

is dangerous and should not be fired. Always consult a qualified gunsmith if you experience any difficulty or have any questions concerning assembly procedure.

15. If firearm is to be stored for an extended period, final oil application can be heavier so there will be less chance for evaporation.

16. Keep your firearm clean at all times.

Removing the Firing Pin for Cleaning

1. Take your slide off of the frame using the takedown instructions given in this manual on Page 23.

2. With a ballpoint pen or similar object, depress the firing pin indicator in clearing the slide cover plate. (See Figure 21.)

3. Press downward and remove the slide cover plate (CAUTION: There will be pressure on the slide cover plate and firing pin indicator. Always wear eye protection before attempting this operation.)

4. Use the 0.050” Allen wrench (provided) to remove the firing pin retaining screw.

5. Remove the firing pin by sliding toward the rearward position of the slide.

6. Clean all components using recommended cleaner and place one (1) drop of oil on the firing pin ONLY.

7. Clean out the pocket where the firing pin fits using a cleaner and cotton swab. (CAUTION: If using a can of pressurized air to remove or blow debris out of hole, always wear eye protection.)

8. Reassemble by placing components back into slide in reverse order. NOTE: Before placing the firing pin retaining screw into the slide, move the firing pin back about 1/8” before tightening the screw into place. DO NOT overtighten the screw. A nice snug tighten is sufficient. DO NOT add thread locking agents to the screw. Upon tightening the screw, make sure the firing pin moves back and forth freely along the length of travel allowed by the design. You should notice the firing pin protruding through the front of the breach area when the firing pin is pushed forward with your finger, once the screw is tightened.
