I truly had a wonderful time visiting lots of wonderful places. I was able to keep our students informed of some of my travels via postcards that I sent to each neighbourhood. It was wonderful to return to school this week and be so welcomed by staff and students. So many students gave me a hug and asked how my trip was or referred to the postcard sent and wanted to know more about Disneyland or the Grand Canyon or the basketball match I attended between the Golden State Warriors and the LA Clippers. And some very caring students wanted to know if I had kept up with Collingwood whilst overseas. And indeed I had! Quite proudly too! I wish to thank our Leadership Team, Faye Martin, Melissa Cusack and Wendy Donaldson for so capably leading the school in my absence. I wish to also thank our staff who have stepped up and assumed additional roles in what has been a very busy term to date. One of my first activities since my return has been to attend the Grade 5 Melbourne excursion which was fantastic in all respects. The students really enjoyed ScienceWorks and so many volunteered to participate in the experiments. The Lightning Room was a favourite amongst the students where we learnt about electricity, positive and negative charges and lightning. It was a “hair raising” experience for some students!! The Melbourne Star was a lovely way to get a scenic view of the Melbourne landscape. Congratulations to all students for their behaviour and manners. A special thanks to the Grade 5 staff, Ms Creighton, Mr Gilmore, Tania and Isaac for their care and organisation on the day. This Friday May 31 st , we have the launch of our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) social and emotional learning program. This is part of the national curriculum and it is designed to develop the social, emotional and positive relationship skills that are required to enjoy healthy and successful lives. Efforts to promote and specifically teach these skills in younger people has shown to improve health related and wellbeing outcomes. And to reduce anti-social behaviour. Our school has always taught a Social and Emotional curriculum as Wellbeing is a priority at our school. Class meetings, Circle Time, Drumbeat, Wellbeing Hour, Girls Space, Boys Business and Solving the Jigsaw have all been avenues where we have enjoyed teaching our students how to be resilient and respectful students who can recognise their own emotions. As a school we remind our students about our school value of Respect. Respect is about valuing people, including people who are different. When you have respect for someone, you feel positive about them and admire or appreciate their actions or behaviour. You can also treat anyone with respect regardless of how you feel about them. It is very important that children understand the importance of respect in all its different forms in all facets of their life – home, school and the wider community. This value resonates with me because it would seem to be much easier to talk about respect than it is to action it. Some people believe they are respectful people and yet show disrespect towards their partner, or on the sporting field or with people that they see as an easy target.

Principal’s message…….. Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork and Being Your Best

Dear Parents and Friends,

I am back after my lovely stint of Long Service Leave. I truly had a wonderful time visiting lots of wonderful

places. I was able to keep our students informed of some of my travels via postcards that I sent to each

neighbourhood. It was wonderful to return to school this week and be so welcomed by staff and students.

So many students gave me a hug and asked how my trip was or referred to the postcard sent and wanted

to know more about Disneyland or the Grand Canyon or the basketball match I attended between the

Golden State Warriors and the LA Clippers. And some very caring students wanted to know if I had kept

up with Collingwood whilst overseas. And indeed I had! Quite proudly too!

I wish to thank our Leadership Team, Faye Martin, Melissa Cusack and Wendy Donaldson for so capably

leading the school in my absence. I wish to also thank our staff who have stepped up and assumed

additional roles in what has been a very busy term to date.

One of my first activities since my return has been to attend the Grade 5 Melbourne excursion which was

fantastic in all respects. The students really enjoyed ScienceWorks and so many volunteered to participate

in the experiments. The Lightning Room was a favourite amongst the students where we learnt about

electricity, positive and negative charges and lightning. It was a “hair raising” experience for some

students!! The Melbourne Star was a lovely way to get a scenic view of the Melbourne landscape.

Congratulations to all students for their behaviour and manners. A special thanks to the Grade 5 staff, Ms

Creighton, Mr Gilmore, Tania and Isaac for their care and organisation on the day.

This Friday May 31st, we have the launch of our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) social

and emotional learning program. This is part of the national curriculum and it is designed to develop the

social, emotional and positive relationship skills that are required to enjoy healthy and successful lives.

Efforts to promote and specifically teach these skills in younger people has shown to improve health

related and wellbeing outcomes. And to reduce anti-social behaviour. Our school has always taught a

Social and Emotional curriculum as Wellbeing is a priority at our school. Class meetings, Circle Time,

Drumbeat, Wellbeing Hour, Girls Space, Boys Business and Solving the Jigsaw have all been avenues where

we have enjoyed teaching our students how to be resilient and respectful students who can recognise their

own emotions.

As a school we remind our students about our school value of Respect. Respect is about valuing people,

including people who are different. When you have respect for someone, you feel positive about them and

admire or appreciate their actions or behaviour. You can also treat anyone with respect regardless of how

you feel about them.

It is very important that children understand the importance of respect in all its different forms in all facets

of their life – home, school and the wider community.

This value resonates with me because it would seem to be much easier to talk about respect than it is to

action it. Some people believe they are respectful people and yet show disrespect towards their partner,

or on the sporting field or with people that they see as an easy target.

This Friday 31st May we will launch our RRRR program with a breakfast before school, followed by a very

special assembly. If you are wishing to attend the free breakfast prior to assembly please ensure you have

accepted the invitation by the end of today. For catering purposes we need to know numbers attending

the breakfast.

We will have some special guests attending the Assembly, both from the Department of Education and

from our local community to highlight the importance of the Respectful Relationships curriculum. I would

encourage our families to take up this special opportunity to partner with our school and attend the

launch.

Thought of the week:

One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.

Kind Regards,

Kim Saddlier

Scienceworks/ Planetarium & Melbourne Star Excursion for Grade 5 students.

My two favourite things on the trip were the Planetarium and

the Lightening Room. The funniest was Skylar’s hair floating in

the air in the Lightening Room.

Izack – Scienceworks

On the Melbourne Star we went all the way around which took 30 minutes. We saw boats, The MCG (only just), Marvel Stadium and all of Melbourne City. Riley – Melbourne Star

The Melbourne Star was so fun, with a great view. It was just a little high though. Seb – Melbourne Star Melbourne Star looked just like a giant ferris wheel, at the half way point

the man said we were 118m high, we went 236m high. I saw Marvel

Stadium and I had butterflies.

Brayden – Melbourne Star

Congratulations to Dominick We are pleased to let you know that Dominick Kraulis has passed a Judo practical and knowledge test called a grading at the Judo Bendigo Club. This is no easy task and requires a great deal of practice. The grade is awarded by the presentation of a coloured Judo belt. Junior Judo belts are in varying colours signifying age and expertise. Dominick has been awarded a Yellow-Orange belt.

Immunisation Certificates As you may be aware, there have recently been cases of measles reported. In light of this, I am seeking your co-operation in ensuring we have a record of your child’s immunisation status on file. This will ensure the school can respond quickly should a member of the school community contract a vaccine preventable disease. In the event of a disease outbreak children without an Immunisation Certificate will be sent home until the risk of infection has passed. If you haven’t supplied the school with a copy of the certificate please do so as soon as possible. You can get a copy of your child’s immunisation History Statement:

Through Medicare online accounts or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.

By visiting a local Medicare service centre Letters have been sent this week to any families who haven’t supplied a copy of the immunisation certificate. We appreciate your support.
