Term 3 will commence for all students on Tuesday 26 th July at 8:45am. Our staff will be commencing the annual national collection of data on school students with a disability. This collection of nationally consistent data involves staff identifying students who fulfil a broad definition of disability - recognised learning difficulties, health and mental conditions as well as identified students under the DECD Disability Guidelines. ACTING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

Well, the July school holidays are almost upon us - in two days time. But I'm not

counting! This fortnight break allows staff and students to recharge their 'batteries'

for the next 10 weeks of Term 3. The frequently inclement weather during this break

does present its challenges of how to happily occupy the children. At least the

early morning school routines are not required, so perhaps a sleep in or two could

be enjoyed.

The Governing Council Election Day sausage sizzle was a huge success. So much

so that we had to do a quick dash to the supermarket to replenish supplies very

early on in the day. I was reliably informed that the food was delicious. Many

thanks to the merry band of volunteers who offered their time to support the

school in fundraising for the school grounds redevelopment. Thank you to Kerry

and his family, Allen, Sue, Louise, Maud, Nadia, Chris, Brenton, Lara, Emily, Brett,

Martha, Eliot and Ruth. Thanks also to our short term assistants - Edie, Ila and

Clementine.

Monday 25th July is a Pupil Free Day for Nailsworth Primary School. We are meeting

with our Adelaide Prospect Partnership schools so that staff from each site can

engage in professional learning with colleagues. Opportunities like this day allow

staff from different sites to exchange teaching ideas and engage in professional

dialogue on the Australian Curriculum. Term 3 will commence for all students on

Tuesday 26th July at 8:45am.

Our staff will be commencing the annual national collection of data on school

students with a disability. This collection of nationally consistent data involves staff

identifying students who fulfil a broad definition of disability - recognised learning

difficulties, health and mental conditions as well as identified students under the

DECD Disability Guidelines. If you have any questions regarding this collection

please contact me. Further information is available at:

In closing, I thank you for your support during Sharron's absence. Everyone (staff,

WEBSITE OF WONDER (WOW)

The website of wonder for this newsletter is:

http://www.whatsonforadelaidefamilies.com.au/

This website has an extensive guide of free school holiday

activities for Adelaide families.

LEARNING APP (LApp)

This fortnight’s LApp is:

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/action-movie-

fx/id489321253?mt=8

Many students have enjoyed making movies in Digital

Technologies for various audiences. Downloading this

app in the holidays might give some students an

opportunity to create movies with ACTION MOVIE FX as

this lets you add Hollywood effects to iPhone and iPad

movies that YOU shoot! It even has a STAR WARS UPDATE

which includes 7 exclusive effects created by the same

artists that made the feature films: Industrial Light & Magic

and Skywalker Sound!

I hope you find these useful. Have fun, enjoy!

Grange U12. If you are free, please come down and

support the team.

Congratulations to the team, their coach Alf Caluya, and

Manager Angela Rawson for making it to the finals, and

we wish them all the best for the Cup final.

haven't yet done this, please return your form asap. Forms

your child is bringing their electronic device to Vacation

Care, please remind them that they are not allowed to

Introducing the PALs (Play at Lunchtimes) Program

to Nailsworth Primary School!

PALs is a buddy initiative aimed at engaging students in structured play and activity during

recess and lunch periods. The program provides a comprehensive structure for schools who

want to develop student leadership and build inclusive play and learning environments.

We were lucky that Andrew Delaney (a trained PALs leader/teacher) was able to fit us in

before the end of this Term to run a 1 day training session for interested Year 5 students.

This program is part of our school’s new incentive to promote

more positive play and further develop student’s social skills.

Timing couldn’t be better, with the playground being out of

action. This lunchtime program will give students an opportunity

to engage in more constructive and creative play activities,

which are lead and supported by trained Year 5 students who

will also act as peer mentors in the yard.

The PALs leaders will wear a special vest so they can be easily identified when they are on

‘play duty’ at recess or lunch. We will start off with running 2-3 sessions per week with the

PALs students leading and being responsible for the activities, under the supervision of yard

duty staff. Activities may include: organised games on the asphalt, creative play spaces with

props and materials, imaginative games with natural materials and other open-ended games

without the restrictions of rules to exclude people.

The PALs leaders are very excited to get started and we look forward to beginning the

program in Term 3.

Thank you for your anticipated support with this new and positive play and learning program.
