“Our municipality feels like an endless battle field,” a municipal employee, who witnessed the former executive mayor of the Waterberg district council, Eric Gwangwa being shot at the Mogalakwena municipality, said on Tuesday. Gwangwa was ap-parently shot in the leg.

allege that members of this group may have been involved in the plotting to assasinate Madimatje Piet Pale.

Now the MRA says it's had enough of the intimidation. "We ask ourselves: What kind of ANC is this that is disrupting services in our community? We call on the ANC at national level to intervene in this regard because the provincial leadership of the ANC is party to these crimes,” the statement reads.

The MRA accused the Mokopane police of having an interest in the political affairs of the municipality. They say this would explain the reluctance of the police to act after they were informed by the municipal manager and the mayor of the planned of disruption.

“The police deliberately ignored the infor-mation and allowed the group to assemble and even disrupt traffic. They were left to damage the pavement by removing bricks and throwing them on the street,” said the MRA.

Mokopane station commander, Col. Lucas Mogwaneng, however, challenged the MRA’s allegations and said police members were merely doing their jobs to ensure protection for all. He invites issues of concern to be raised with him personally.

Mogalakwena municipality’s divisional head of communications, Malesela Selokela, expressed the municipality’s disappointment

with the conduct and misbehavior of people who illegally marched to the municipality on Monday morning.

He said such a gathering must be applied for and the intention to protest, accompanied by a notice, must reach the municipality at least seven days before the planned gathe-ring.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudizi, provincial spokesman for the police, confirmed that seven protestors were arrested. This excludes the shooter. Police are still investigating the incident, he said.

The DA challenged Coghsta minister, Pravin Gordhan, to explain to the voters of Mogalakwena why the findings and recom-mendations of the KPMG report has not yet been implemented and asked when his department will bring stability and account-ability to the municipality. The DA said it will submit an urgent motion to the NCOP to convene a plenary so that Minister Pravin Gordhan can answer to the people.

Spoorsnyers vang vermeende renosterstropers

Attorney in court for stabbing

A local attorney appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate's court for a second time after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend on 19 August.

The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, told police she was getting in a taxi to go to work when her ex-boyfriend approached her. She refused to talk to him upon which he allegedly stabbed her repeatedly with a knife. The victim sustained serious injuries.

The suspect was arrested on the same day and appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate court on 20 August where he was released on bail. His second appearance was on Tuesday where the case was postponed to 30 September. The accused was not asked to plead.

“It is a shame for a man of his caliber and sta-tus to commit such an offence, especially during women’s month,” said Col. Lucas Mogwaneng, the station commander of Mokopane police station.

The department of home affairs announced that it has discontinued the issuing of tem-porary passports from 01 September 2014.

A temporary passport was initially issued as an interim travel document due to longer turn-around times taken to issue a perma-nent tourist passport valid for ten years. This turn-around time has improved drastically, rendering the need for Temporary Passports a thing of the past.

The turn-around time for a passport ap-plied for on the departments’ Live Capture system takes 13 days while that applied for using the manual system is issued within 24 days. Emergency travel certificates are issued on the same day in consideration of the nature of circumstances presented as an emergency need.

Temporary passport discontinuedThe department also noted that South

Africans traveling abroad as well as to neighbouring states are refused entry when traveling on temporary passports. This has resulted in accusations and claims against the department in cases where citizens are refused entry into a particular country despite being in possession of a temporary passport.

In this regard, only an emergency travel certificate (ETC) will be issued to an ap-plicant under circumstances of emergency travel purposes such as when a passport that is lost while abroad; and traveling to coun-tries that accept ETCs for purposes of assist-ing family members in distress or if a family member is deceased.

Tom Burke police station arrested 30 trespassers in August on the Grobler’s Bridge border post. The accused immigrants are said to swim through the river and then climb over or sometime cut through the fence to enter South Africa. There is apparently always a vehicle on the other side to assist them with transport to wherever they want to go. The driver gets paid by the trespassers. Warrant officer Hennie van Staden says that there are often children involved and that the parents come to South Africa to seek employment and then later on the children are brought through. The children who get caught while entering the country illegally are taken to welfare services until the parents are located and reunited with them.

Illegal immigrants still a problem

Strike action at the SA Post Office (SAPO) has impacted on most individuals and busi-nesses with delays in the delivery of bills, statements, letters and all correspondence. The strike, in its third week, saw workers allege that they have been working without contracts since 2012 and that their pleas for contracts have been ignored.

It started with a three-month strike in 2012 when employees demanded perma-nent contracts and full-time employment. 2013 was also plagued by strikes, as was February 2013 and the past three weeks.

The SAPO has released a statement say-ing that 473 casual and part-time employees that embarked on an illegal strike have been dismissed, on 19 August 2014, following their refusal to heed calls to return to their posts.

The illegal strike was concentrated in the

“The strike has caused a spike in courier deliveries,” says Rika van der Walt, owner of Postnet Lephalale, “direct delivery is the only way to ensure that your parcels are delivered in time.”

In the meantime, the SAPO says that it is making an effort to resolve this industrial action, however, at this point it was left with no other recourse but to dismiss the striking employees.

Clients should expect delays in the delivery of mail as the strike continues.

The Mahwelereng police reports that two children were victims in rape cases this weekend. Following on the heels of Women’s month, it is worrisome that the violence against women and children are still rife in the rural village areas.

A six-year-old girl from Sekuruwe village was sleeping with two other siblings on the Saturday night when a man entered through a window and allegedly kidnapped her. The suspect took the victim to the bush where he reportedly raped her.

The father became suspicious and went to check on the children to find the daughter missing. He rushed outside and alerted the community. After a search, community mem-bers found the little girl crying and bleeding in nearby bushes. Police report that the victim informed them the suspect had raped

In another case, a 28-year-old man from Tsamahansi village was arrested by the Mokopane FCS (Family Violence and Child Protection Unit) on Thursday after-noon after allegedly raping his niece. The child was coming from school when she found her uncle in the house. The uncle apparently called her to her mo-ther’s bedroom where he allegedly raped her and left her.

The mother returned later to find the child injured and distraught.

The victim was rushed to hospital and treated.

The suspect was arrested and ap-peared in court on 1 September. The case was postponed until 9 September.

The best chance you will have at catching a trophy bass is undoubtedly during the spring.

Large females, who mostly spend their time in deep water, move up into shallower water to spawn. Shallow water is where these females are at their most vulnerable.

Before they move onto the beds these girls spend quite a bit of time cruising the perimeters of the spawning flats. They are hungry, easy to pattern, and easy to catch.

Once they move onto the flats and into the beds the catching scenario changes quite a bit. These ladies have only one thing on their mind, and that is to procreate.

They become harder to catch and most times will flat-out ignore moving baits BUT.... bass on beds are protective creatures. They will protect their nest at all costs. The female will help protect the nest whilst she is preparing to lay her eggs.

Once the eggs have been laid and fertilized the female will move on, leaving a single male behind to protect the treasure. This male will attack anything that poses a threat to his precious nest until the fry have hatched and are big enough to take on the open waters by themselves.

There are many bass anglers who specialise in catching spawning females off the nest. These trophy fish are usually located in ultra-shallow water, visible to any angler wearing a decent pair of polarized sunglasses, and when aggravated enough, will grab onto the lure long enough to give an angler time to set the hook. Personally, I do not like to catch females

Fishing for bass in the spring

off beds, preferring to give them time to spawn unhindered. It is much more of a challenge trying to locate the staging

females in the deeper water just off the spawning flats. Bass will always use an easy access area into the shallows. Think of shallow water close to deep water, from mouths of major creeks all the way to the back ends of creeks. Classic staging areas would include points, bays, and banks with deep cuts or breaklines, and creeks running close to shallow water.

Cover a lot of water, but stay on or near a breakline. When you connect with a good fish, slow down and work the area thoroughly. There will be small and large schools of deep-water bass staging somewhere from the mouth of a creek all the way to the back end. Locate these staging fish and you will understand the meaning of fun.

However, don’t count on these fish being in the same spot the next day. Staging bass are al-ways on the move, steadily making their way up towards the shallows. They might be there, but most likely they will have moved to another loca-tion.

The best baits to use to locate staging bass would be lipless crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinner-baits, and medium-diving crankbaits.

Once you have hooked up with a couple of fish concentrated in an area, change your presentation to weightless stickbaits and flukes rigged on 5/0 widegap hooks, light Texas-rigged creature baits and finesse jigs with crawfish trailers.

When you hook-up with Mama-Sita, rejoice in the fact that you may have caught your personal best, but be mindful to the fact that this girl is on her way to complete a very important task!

Hold her with two hands – by the lip and the tail! Take your photos and measurements quickly and with the least amount of stress to the fish. How long can you hold your breath?

This is the same amount time a fish can comfortably be out of the water. When you feel the need for some air...so does she! Release her gently back into the water close to where you caught her.
