WATER

Community Details “The only previous water source our entire community had was a government-provided standpipe through which water was provided once every week for two hours, but that too depended on availability of power in a region that suffers from severe power shortage. The only other water source we had was located five kilometers away, in a neighboring village, nearer to the forest, but fear of attack from animals made it difficult for women and children to fetch water from there.” This reality was lived daily by 125 people residing in Osabadavane village. Public taps were insufficient and alternate water sources posed multiple life-threatening obstacles for the people. Desperate to end their suffering, village leaders sought help from the Living Water India team while the team was working in a neighboring village, and Living Water responded!

Upon the team’s arrival, families were seen not only suffering for safe drinking water, but also suffering repercussions of open defecation, among other dangerous hygiene and sanitation practices. The Living Water Hygiene Promotion team immediately addressed these issues by holding lessons with families. Using a Living Water Traditional method, the team addressed six principle lessons that are intended to shed light on the dangers of unsafe hygiene and sanitation behaviors, in hopes of creating a healthier environment for families. During the lessons, the Living Water team loved on families and spent time emphasizing the individual and community value of good health.

In this Hindu influenced region of the world, the gospel and love of Jesus Christ is seldom heard, as the name of Jesus is seldom spoken. Today, in Osabadavane village, not only was the name of Jesus spoken and the gospel shared, but also the Lord was given glory and thanks for his provision of safe drinking water! The team also had an opportunity to establish a partnership with the local missionary who will continue to cultivate families residing in Osabadavace village for many years to come!

FOR LIFE

Hygiene Promotion During the hygiene education, the Living Water India team addressed the following life-saving lessons: disease transmission, germs, hand washing-proper techniques and water saving methods, proper care of the pump and keeping the water clean. All of the lessons were taught in a participatory method to help community members discover ways to improve their hygiene and sanitation choices, and implement community-driven solutions.

Community Member Interview “Our community has been living here for centuries and have been suffering from severe water crisis all through these years,” shared 52-year-old community member Mahadev. “This well means a lot to the people of this community who had been struggling to meet their water requirement week in and week out for years. The only previous water source our entire community had was a government-provided standpipe through which water was provided once every week for two hours, but that too depended on availability of power which happened to fall in a region that suffers from severe power shortage. The only other water source we had was five kilometers away in our neighboring village, nearer to the forest, but fear of attack from animals made it difficult for women and children to fetch water from there. The people of this community couldn't be more grateful to Living Water and the donor for providing us with this wonderful gift that has surely eased our water crisis for life!”

IN JESUS’ NAME

Christian Witness

A village that has no churches or Christians living in it was an ideal place for the well to be dug. The community around the village belongs to a high caste Hindu sect called "LINGAITH" that has formed a permanent home in the village. With a nearby mission organization reaching villages in the area, the well provided by Living Water opens new doors for the local evangelist to enter the community with the gospel. The Living Water team established a relationship with the local missionary, who will continue to share the Good News with the unreached in this Hindu village!
