N J Richards is a privately owned and managed business that has operated for 25 years. We specialise in the Retail, Commercial, Residential, Hospitality and Leisure and Specialist Works sectors.

Our expertise includes: Project Management, Design, Mechanical & Electrical, New Build, Fit-Out and Refurbishment works and we are comfortable working with traditional type contracts, design and build and full turn-key projects. We also have bespoke luxury retail and residential project teams.

N J Richards are based in Hatfield in the South East of England, but we regularly undertake projects across the UK and Ireland.

Our specialist Contracts Managers have project and construction experience in many worldwide settings and they are easily adaptive to any project size or scope.

N J Richards remain small enough to give the personal attention to our clients irrespective of the project size - a unique trait which many larger contractors overlook.

The Directors

N J Richards is a thriving family owned enterprise led by Richard Neocleous and fellow Directors Richard Black, Gavin Winyard and Michael Butterworth.

Supporting these four Directors is a dedicated team of up to 30 full-time construction industry professionals based in the South East of England, but N J Richards regularly operate right throughout the UK and Ireland.

N J Richards are experienced in undertaking refurbishment projects - often whilst premises are still occupied or trading. Utilising our programming and operations skills, our aim is to ensure the least disruption to our Clients operations and minimising the impact on their business.

Mechanical & Electrical

N J Richards offer an in-house Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) service to provide Clients with high quality and bespoke solutions which are very cost effective. We offer comprehensive and professional mechanical and electrical contracting services that can include complete electrical and mechanical installations and fully qualified in-house electricians.


RetailOur core business has historically been fashion retailers. Since the companys formation, our retail sector focus has been on the leading mainstream High Street fashion and footwear brands. However, we also have an unrivalled niche operation focussed on luxury goods and boutique high-end retail clients, as well as solutions for bespoke concessions and pop-up stores.

N J Richards retail sector expertise is not limited to just fashion clients and High Streets. We have significant experience delivering store projects at most of the major shopping malls and retail parks in the UK. Our teams have also delivered many high-end concession solutions in icon department stores like: Harrods, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Debenhams. CommercialN J Richards commercial sector experience covers a range of buildings and business uses, from small owner-occupier developers to speculative urban or business park office accommodation, and new-build headquarters buildings, warehouses, call centres and distribution centres.

We have built or refurbished premium and more budget conscious office space for leading global organisations, predominantly in London, but also increasingly in Manchester, Bath, Birmingham and many smaller regional city centres. N J Richards commercial developments often involve multiple stakeholders, including funders, developers, owner occupiers andtenants where we have much experience in supporting and working with each of these distinct groups to achieve mutually satisfactory project outcomes. ResidentialOur specialist residential construction team undertake all forms of residential works. We are equally at ease with out of the ground (concrete, steel or timber frame) works as we are comfortable with refurbishment and remodelling works.

We deliver bespoke luxury residential conversions and refurbishments, as well as larger new build multi-story buildings and flat conversions. Many of the residential projects we undertake present difficult site constraints in terms of access, site remediation, sensitivity of location and building listing status.

Successful residential construction projects come from understanding and managing the relationship between the client, value, time and cost.
