Innovation is a process by which an idea or invention is translated into useable goods for which people will pay. To be called an “innovation”, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. Innovation involves deliberate application of information, imagination, and initiative in deriving greater or different value from resources. This encompasses all processes by which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products.

Concept toDeliveryCards are much more than a means of payment or

identification; they are a real marketing tool which

companies and organisations from all sectors are

increasingly taking advantage of. The cards can set

you apart from your competitors, help you target

your current customers or better still attract new ones.

With these objectives in mind, Nitecrest offer a wide

variety of innovative cards created from a deep

knowledge of printing techniques and the constant

research into new materials.

Nitecrest are able to produce cards combining

3D effects with combinations of matt and gloss

surfaces to highlight parts of the design. Even more

innovative are cards with surprising texture effects,

that stimulate the feel of textile or leather, depending

on the printed image. We are also able to produce

translucent cards that offer endless possibilities

in terms of colour and design; these are some of

the possibilities that Nitecrest puts into practice to

ensure that its customers cards are unique.

The card world has changed a lot with the integration of chip technology. Smart cards are now in a large number of sectors and with an infinite number of potential uses. At first, the banking sector adopted EMV cards to increase the security of payment transactions. Contactless/dual interface cards for payment or for access control, are the cards that have seen increasing demand in this developing market place.

Nitecrest has a range of products for our banking clients including Native, JAVA and Multos Solutions to name but a few.

Cards are made of several layers of plastic laminated together. The core is commonly made from a plastic resin known as polyvinyl chloride acetate (PVCA). This resin is mixed with opacifying materials, dyes, and plasticisers to give it the appropriate appearance and consistency. This core material is then laminated within layers of PVCA or clear plastic materials. These laminates adhere to the core when applied with pressure and heat.

ProcessA variety of inks or dyes are also used for printing smart

cards. These are available in a variety of colours and

are designed for use on plastic substrates. In some

instances special magnetic inks are used to print

the magnetic stripe on the back of the card. The

inks are made by dispersing metal oxide particles in

the appropriate solvents. Additional special printing

processes are involved for cards, like VISA and

MasterCard, which feature holograms.

The manufacturing process consists of multiple

steps: first the plastic core and laminate materials

are compounded and cast into sheet form; then

the core is printed with the appropriate information;

next the laminates are applied to the core; once

the chip has been milled and implanted, the final

assembled sheet is cut into individual cards.

If your next card project has a need to be on a

material a little different then please contact us for

one of our consultants to visit with you. We can use

transparent, flocked and material affect substrates

to give your card the edge in the market place.

MagneticStripeOersteads (Oe) are the units used to measure

coercivity. Low coercivity is defined as 0-300 Oe.

High coercivity is 300-3000 Oe. Hi-co cards are

actually encoded at a level of 2750 Oe.

Because it takes a stronger magnet to change

its unique pattern of magnetic fields, information

stored within a hi-co magnetic strip will not be

degraded as quickly as information stored on a

lo-co magnetic strip, hence its wide spread use

across banking and financial transaction cards

world wide.

In other words: hi-co cards work longer than lo-co

cards. This sees the low-co card technology being

widely reserved for single or low use plastic card

requirements, such as closed loop gift cards

common to the retail landscape.

Culprits responsible for erasing information from

magnetic stripes include refrigerator magnets and

demagnetisers used by stores to prevent shoplifting.

Low-coercivity stripes on cards are usually brown,

hi-co stripes black.

Coercivity is a measurement of the amount of energy it takes to change the polarity of a magnetic field. Since information on magnetic stripes is stored as a pattern of positive or negative magnetic fields, coercivity also becomes a measure of how long a card’s magnetic stripe can retain the information that has been encoded within it.

A smart card; a type of chip card made from plastic, embedded with a computer chip that stores and transacts data between users and issuers. This data is associated with either value or information or both and is stored and processed within the card’s chip, either a memory or microprocessor. The card data is transacted via a reader that is part of a computing system. Smart card-enhanced systems are in use today throughout several key applications, including healthcare, banking, entertainment and transportation. To various degrees, all applications can benefit from the added features and security that smart cards provide.

Nitecrest offers smart card solutions for all sectors, and have EMV – contact and contactless, as well as solutions for non-payment markets.

Identity cards are increasingly becoming common practice across all walks of life and industry. As businesses seek to make their premises more secure and ensure a safe working environment we are seeing growing numbers of employers opt for ID cards for their employees which also act as secure entry cards to the employers premises and can be used to replace traditional clocking in schemes.

Nitecrest have been producing identity cards for over 15 years and in keeping with the evolving world and ever changing technology we have seen the cards we are producing for our clients change quite dramatically over this time. We have gone from just printing names and photographs onto plastic to ‘SMART’ cards which are storing data and being used for contactless entry to secure premises and also as a means to replace historical clocking in schemes.
