THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN LAWYERS INVITES YOU TO JOIN US FOR OUR NINTH ANNUAL GENERAL COUNSEL INSTITUTE:

Resilience: Thriving as In-House Counsel in Changing

Legal and Business Landscapes In today’s rapidly evolving business environment, change is a way of life – for your company, your legal department and your own legal career.

The combined forces of a fluctuating economy, exponential growth in technology, and the constant evolution of both law and corporate culture require a resilient and agile legal workforce. As in-house counsel, your ability to offer practical and deliverable solutions to the complex challenges facing your company will maximize your legal department’s value and solidify your position as a valued business partner.

At GCI, you will be inspired by powerful personal stories of resiliency. You will explore current legal issues and develop best prac-tices to anticipate and respond quickly to your clients’ needs. Through substantive legal workshops and the open exchange of ideas with senior lawyers facing similar challenges, you will improve your skills to address issues head on, drive positive changes in your own legal department, and marshal the strength not just to survive, but to thrive in a world of constant change.

Resilience is the power to understand the challenge and to recognize the opportunities. You will leave GCI with a personal plan to incorporate today’s critical skill of resilience into your role as in-house counsel.

Prior GCI participants have come from throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe and included counsel from large Fortune 100 to small private companies to non-profit organizations.

• Attend plenary sessions with leading general counsel and distinguished speakers. • Participate in CLE-eligible workshops led by subject matter experts. • Enjoy opportunities for informal networking throughout both days. • Interact with general counsel and other senior corporate counsel in informal settings and optional evening activities. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Senior corporate counsel of public, private, large and small companies, non-profits, government, and educational institutions. Registration is limited to in-house counsel. Join our Premier Corporate Spon-sor, Walmart, to open GCI with an interactive session in which we will acknowledge the resilience that has brought us to the present day, and begin the process of harnessing our resilience for future success.

PLENARY SESSION 3:45 - 5:00 PM THE FUNDAMENTAL AND FRAGILE BOND: TRUST AND THE MODERN WORKPLACE Moderator: Katherine Giscombe, Ph.D., Vice President, Diverse Women & Inclusion Research, Catalyst

It is often said that trust, like reputation, takes years to build and mo-ments to destroy. An essential component of the relationship between attorney and client, manager and subordinate, sponsor and protégé, a company and its customers and shareholders, trust empowers us to accomplish our objectives -- but how can we recover when trust is bro-ken, or even questioned? Catalyst has examined the effect that trust, or a lack thereof, has on the advancement of women in the workplace. Hear about what it takes to build trust and how to have a transparent and effective management structure. Understand the effect that trust can have in the contexts of developing a career strategy and giving and receiving feedback. Learn how to navigate in an environment where trust is missing. Our expert panel – senior attorneys and executives in their respective organizations – will share their personal experiences and insights on creating, maintaining, and rebuilding trust for success-ful and rewarding professional lives.

ABOUT NAWL

The National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) is a national voluntary legal professional organization devoted to the interests of women lawyers and women’s rights. Founded in 1899, long before most local and national bar associations admitted women, the Association has historically served as an educational forum and an active voice for the concerns of women in the legal profession.

NAWL continues to support and advance the interests of women in and under the law and the social, political and profes-sional empowerment of women. Today, members of the Association represent all areas of legal expertise; public and private sectors; for-profit and not-for-profit; and large and small organizations. Through its programs and network, NAWL provides the tools for women in the profession to advance, prosper and enrich the profession. These include:

• The annual General Counsel Institute, dedicatedto helping senior in-house counsel excel at thehighest level

• Amicus support in the Supreme Court of the United States and in the federal courts on issues of concern to women

• Liaison to other professional organizations

• Networking and leadership opportunitiesfor women lawyers at all levels

Perhaps most important, NAWL, through its members and committees, functions as the Voice of Women in the Law™. We provide a collective voice in the bar, courts, Congress, and workplace to make women’s concerns heard.

By becoming a member of NAWL, you unite with and support women throughout the United States to advocate for women in the legal profession. We invite you to join others like you, who are proud to be engaged in the practice of law and wish to work together for the continued progress of women in the law. As a member, you will benefit from NAWL’s programs and publications, as well as from its networking and leadership opportunities. Please take a moment to join the National Associa-tion of Women Lawyers. NAWL welcomes men and women lawyers as members, as well as law firm, corporate law depart-ment, and law school members.
