2014 Golden Ticket - $50 Buy a Golden Ticket for 2014 and your event fees are covered
(Ordeals, Rendezvous, Section Conclave), plus a distinctive patch.
Golden Ticket does not include transportation. (Ask your troop leader
for that!) Save big with the Golden Ticket!
Wanted: Communications Team Members
NST has youth positions for the lodge. If you are interested in becoming more active, contact the LEC
on page 14 to fill a chair or vice-chief position. Chair positions including communications, ceremonies,
high adventure, service, facilities, and a cook team are all open and available if interested.
OA TROOP REPS AND ADVISERS
All Troops with Arrowmen should have a youth OA Troop Representative.
The OA Troop Representative Adviser (Assistant Scoutmaster Designee) is a new,
official BSA adult position of responsibility that has been created. Its purpose is to create
the role for an adult to guide the youth TR and be a ‘voice of the Order’ at the adult level
in the troop structure.
If you don’t know who your OA Troop Rep is,
chances are your troop may not have one.
Ask your Scoutmaster and have him submit the form detailing your contact
information. The ELECTION/Troop REP form is even available
online, to make it easier and less painless.
By submitting the form, we’ll get you a Troop Rep/Adviser
patch, FOR FREE… limit 1 per troop per year. Plus, each troop needs an adult Arrowman as Troop Rep Adviser on the Troop Committee. If you have any questions, just ask: [email protected]
Elangomats Needed
At each Ordeal, Arrowmen (Elangomats) repeat the trials of the Ordeal again to act as leaders
and guides to the candidates that are going through the Ordeal for the first time. Any Arrowman who
serves as an Elangomat has the opportunity to earn a unique Ni-Sanak-Tani glow-in-the-dark ghost
patch for their service. Don’t wish to repeat the Ordeal? We are always looking for more Arrowmen to
help run the ordeal for the weekend at a minimal cost of $10 for food.
Upcoming Events Some places you'll see sashes around Council events coming up... and could use you.
Nipachton Ordeal at Camp Decorah: June 6-8
NST’s first big event in the summer! Come help us out at the Ordeal or even be an Elangomat (Highly Encouraged!). Those who participate in the Elangomat ceremony will receive and unique and
distinguishing ghost patch, and it can be found at bit.ly/nstelangomat. You can also sign up and find further
information online. Check-in is between 6-7 pm, on Friday June 6th.
Wuliechenummen Ordeal at Camp Decorah: July 18-20 Also coming up at Camp Decorah is our Wuliechenummen Ordeal during the middle of July. Like the Nipachton Ordeal, you can participate as part of the ceremonies team if interested, or go through the ceremony as an elangomat, which will bring along experiences and new outlooks. Those who participate in the Elangomat ceremony will
receive and unique and distinguishing ghost patch, and it can be found at bit.ly/nstelangomat.
Fall Rendezvous at Camp Decorah: August 1-3
Wish you could spend your summer in a Hobbit
hole? Or rather do you like going on journeys and
adventures? Our Hobbit-themed fellowship event, the
Fall Rendezvous, is August 1-3 at Camp Decorah this
summer. We will be doing some adventuring of our
own, including a “camp quest”, capture the flag, nerf
sword fights, tomahawk and knife throwing, and a
viewing of the movie The Hobbit. Lodge elections
are Saturday evening, and are FREE (food included!)
for any lodge member regardless of attendance to the
Rendezvous. Anyone interested in running for Lodge
Chief must send a letter stating their intentions and plans for their term as lodge chief to Scout Executive
This summer, Ni-Sanak-Tani has a couple of great opportunities for Arrowmen! Every Arrowmen who is elected in 2014 is able to complete their Ordeal during one of our two opportunities as a lodge. The Nipachton Ordeal was June 7-9 and the Wuliechenummen Ordeal is July 18-20 at Camp Decorah. NST needs Elangomats, or Arrowmen who repeat the trials of the Ordeal over again to act as a leader and guide to the Ordeal candidates going through the Ordeal for the first time. Any Arrowmen who act as an Elangomat have the opportunity to earn a Ni-Sanak-Tani glow-in-the-dark ghost patch for their service. Going to Camp Decorah for summer camp? There is a special opportunity for all Arrowmen this summer; the Order of the Arrow Ice Cream Social is at 9 pm on Tuesday night at camp. Heard of ArrowPower 2014? This is a great regional event that you can attend this summer! It is coming up August 17-23. Look on Page 7 for more information about this service event on the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers. Lodge Elections – August 2
Camp Decorah
Coming up Saturday, August 2 during the Fall Rendezvous at Camp Decorah are Ni-Sanak-Tani’s lodge elections. With free snacks and food, not only will you have a blast and meet some new people, but you will also vote for our lodge’s important positions, including Lodge Chief and Vice-Chiefs of Administration, Program, Inductions, and Finance. Even if you are not attending the Rendezvous, admission to the elections is free to all members who are current with their dues.
Prepare to make a journey to Camp Decorah to fulfill all of your adventuring needs!
Section Conclave – September 12-14,
Bear Paw Scout Camp
Our 2014 Conclave will be September 12-14, hosted by the newly formed Kon Wapos Lodge of Bay Lakes Council at Bear Paw Scout Camp. We will also be hosting Arrowpower2014, a weeklong service project co-hosted by sections C-1A, C-1B and C-3A. We encourage interested servant leaders to find out more at arrowpower.sectionc1b.org. We are excited to see how we can build on last year’s successful program and look forward to our Order’s 100th Anniversary!
NLS is October 10 through October 12 at Camp Lake, Wisconsin. For the first time in over five years, Wisconsin is hosting a National Leadership Seminar!! As one of the Central Region’s training session, this is a great opportunity to attend! The seminar is an intensive experience in learning about the nature of leadership and practicing some of the skills that a leader uses. While it is designed to be fun, the course
challenges participants intellectually as well. Participants should be mentally and physically prepared to actively engage in an exhausting, invigorating weekend. The weekend format is designed to complement the longer, more detailed Wood Badge and NYLT. The training is not intended for Arrowmen younger than 15, although there is no age requirement to attend. The cost for the entire weekend is $175 for youth, but NST will pay $100 of that, reducing the cost to $75. This includes lodging for two nights, cracker barrels, meals from Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch, seminar handouts, a certificate, and seminar recognition.
For more information and to sign up, go to central.oa-bsa.org/training/nls/
Ceremony and Dance Teams NST needs people for our ceremony and dance teams. There are speaking parts, torchbearers, and drummers for a typical ceremony. An active lodge typically has 12-15 members of each ceremony (Call Out, Ordeal, Brotherhood), but Ni-Sanak-Tani rarely can find more than 4-6 that are interested. NST is looking for leadership and participants for our dance team. Between 12 and 24 Arrowmen used to dance at the camp closing campfires, but that was 20 years back. Dances are used competitively at NOAC and other OA gatherings. Dance and Ceremony teams have the ability to get special ghost patches that you cannot receive by just being in our lodge.
We’re looking for more ceremonialists for Call-Out, Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Cub
Crossovers. Ready to sign up, or want more information, look on Page 13 to contact one
of the Lodge Executive Committee.

How do you prepare for Brotherhood? By coming to Lodge, Section, and National events, and stay involved. Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow is not a rank or a step up the ladder in the same sense as that of First Class Scout to Star, Life, and Eagle Scout.
Brotherhood membership is the completion of the induction process of becoming a true Arrowman. Brotherhood members
have no special privileges that are not open to Ordeal members, except to attend Brotherhood ceremonies and showing your pride in the Order of the Arrow through those two bars. You’ll have a chance to complete your Brotherhood during Summer Camp or the Rendezvous in August…
To be eligible for Brotherhood, you need to have been an Ordeal Arrowman for 10 months, and express interest in sealing your membership through learning the Obligation, Admonition, Song, Handclasp, and write a brief letter. Check out Jumpstart on the NST web page, for assistance in learning all this “stuff”. Practice them… by coming to events or meetings.
