Composition

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam has a two layer construction composed of a soft, conformable micro porous polyurethane foam wound contact layer with a highly breathable pink polyurethane film backing.

Pink polyurethane film backing

High MVTR

Increases total exudate handling capacity

Reduces risk of maceration

Increases dressing wear time

Waterproof and bacterial barrier

Low friction

New improved polyurethane foam

More absorbent and improved exudate retention properties

Smaller pore size, reducing the risk of newly formed epithelium penetrating the foam

Softer and more conformable

Mode of Action

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam has a micro porous hydrophilic foam structure that effectively absorbs high levels of wound exudate. Initially, wound exudate is rapidly and vertically absorbed into the hydrophilic foam matrix whilst the micropore surface helps to prevent adherence to the wound bed, and minise trauma during dressing changes.

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam has a polyurethane film backing that provides a high moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR). The MVTR is the rate at which the dressing allows moisture to pass through it and is thus a measure of the ‘breathability’ of the dressing. The high MVTR film backing allows excess exudate to evaporate from the dressing and combined with the high intrinsic absorption capacity of the foam and provides a high total fluid handling capability. This ability to absorb high levels of wound exudate provides protection against maceration, peri wound excoriation and leakage, this results in less frequent dressing changes and less discomfort for patients.

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam maintains a moist wound healing environment that:

Facilitates moist wound healing

Absorbs and retains exudate

Provides a bacterial barrier

Indications

The selection of any wound management product should be based on a holistic patient assessment. Accurate wound assessment and appropriate product selection can help promote a wound healing environment and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam is indicated for use on granulating, epithelialising or sloughy wounds with moderate to heavy exudate including:

Venous and arterial leg ulcers

Pressure ulcers

Diabetic ulcers

Superficial and partial thickness burns

Skin grafts and skin donor sites

Lacerations and abrasions

Trauma wounds

Post operative wounds

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam dressings are suitable for use under compression bandaging.

Under the medical supervision of a healthcare professional ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam dressings can be used to manage infected wounds or wounds in which there is an increased risk of infection.

Contraindicated

Surgical implantation

Patient and Nursing Considerations

Highly absorbent foam dressing pad with high MVTR

High total fluid handling can help reduce the number of dressing changes so patients can continue with their daily activities

Reduced risk of leakage and maceration

Maintains an optimal wound environment for healing

Waterproof and bacterial barrier

Protects both the patient and healthcare professional from cross contamination

Keeps bacteria and other contaminates away from the wound preventing infection

Allows patients to wash or shower

Semi permeable pink polyurethane film backing

Reduced risk of leakage

Reduced risk of maceration

Extremely soft, conformable and comfortable foam pad

Easily applied to awkward areas

Soft foam offers comfort to the patient

Creates confidence in use

Micro porous foam

Reduces risk of newly formed epithelium penetrating the foam

Reduces risk of wound trauma and pain during dressing changes

Functional appearance

Offers reassurance to both the patient and clinician

Latex free

Reduced risk of skin reactions

Gelatin free

Can be used on patients with religious or ethical objections to the use of animal derived product

Application

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam can be used as a primary dressing to absorb exudate, maintain a moist wound healing environment and can protect newly formed granulated and epithelial tissue within the wound bed. ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam can also be used as a secondary dressing to absorb excess exudate.

Select a dressing large enough to allow 2cm margin from the wound edge. The dressing can be held in place using a retention bandage or by using tapes applied to the edges of the dressing.

ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam can remain in situ for up to 7 days dependent on the amount of exudate within the wound.

Note : Do not cover ActivHeal® Non Adhesive Foam with occlusive films or tapes, as they will effect the MVTR, and consequently effect the total fluid handling of the dressing.
