Sister Wendy and the Art of the Gospel

See your favorite art-loving nun as never before! When Sister Wendy first introduced us to her world of Christian art in the 1990s, the world instantly fell in love with her. Over that time, the hilarious art appreciator has revealed little about herself.

For the first time, explore Sister Wendy’s world as she talks frankly, humorously, and profoundly about her life and spirituality. Above all, she connects us to the art that has helped her to know herself and her faith.

New Independent Lens! Instead of feeling powerless and doomed to

perpetuate a cycle of poverty, Amlan Ganguly, a lawyer-turned-social entrepreneur, has empowered children in the poorest slums of Kolkata, India to change their futures. Using street theater, dance and data as their weapons, the children have cut the rate of disease in their homes in half, turned garbage dumps into playing fields, and revived hope in their community. Great PerformancesIn 1958, Jerome Robbins’ “ballet

in sneakers,” NY Export: Opus Jazz, became a smash hit and toured around the world. Set to an evocative jazz score by Robert Prince and abstract urban backdrops by Ben Shahn, the dance told the story of disaffected urban youth through

movement that blended ballet, jazz and ballroom dancing with Latin, African and American rhythms to create a powerfully expressive, sexy and contemporary style. Now, the work comes full circle in a vibrant new film adaptation, shot on locations around New York City.

Catch Bird Tales Celebrate summer

with the birds, when we rebroadcast one of NHPTV’s award-winning avian specials, Bird Tales. It explores the reasons people are so devoted to birds.

Host Willem Lange meets migratory bird enthusiasts who reveal fascinating stories. Meet Sarah Zuccarelli, who lives at a bird sanctuary in Center Sandwich; Don Kroodsma, a world-famous birdsong expert from Massachusetts who’s been studying their songs for over 40 years; an Ohio teen who shares his birding experience through art; a NJ inmate who shares his passion for birds with other inmates and correctional officers, and school children in Nicaragua and Washington, DC, who are part of Bridging the Americas, a migratory bird education and conservation program.

And if this Telly award-winning Windows to the Wild special leaves you wishing for more bird tales, this little

birdie can tell you that in October, our newest bird program, Counting on Birds, will premiere!

The buzzers have gone quiet as the 29th season of Granite State Challenge wrapped up last month with two exciting matches. Brainy bragging rights go to Plymouth Regional High School, which topped rival Hanover High School in the Granite State SuperChallenge finale.

Congratulations to Plymouth Regional, along with all the teams who competed in the 2013 season, for spirited and well-played games!

The Bobcats then went on to compete in the first-ever NH-MA Governor’s Cup Challenge. The team

competed hard against North Quincy High, the champions of the WGBH High School Quiz Bowl, but lost that match

Our generous sponsors also played an important role in the success of the season: lead sponsor Unitil Corporation, a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England; NHHEAF Network Organizations, DF Richard, Markem-Imaje, Pax World Funds, Heinemann and Measured Progress.
