Kids Disco Parties take over the NGV Garden during NGV Kids
Summer Festival 2019
WELCOMEThe National Gallery of Victoria is a place for everyone
and warmly welcomes children, teenagers and families.
This year, the NGV Kids Summer Festival presents nine days of
artist-led activities, performances, music and dance, especially
for children and the whole family – and everything is free!
With this guide you can find activities to get everyone moving,
discover something new, relax or express yourself.

FACILITIES FOR FAMILIESPRAMS NGV International and The Ian
Potter Centre: NGV Australia are fully pram accessible and you are
welcome to take your pram into Gallery spaces. Any large bags that
are not stored underneath prams will need to be cloaked. The Great
Hall and Grollo Equiset Garden are great places for children to
roam, relax, stretch their legs or lie back and gaze at the
stained-glass ceiling.
FOODFamily-friendly food options are available at Gallery
Kitchen. You are also welcome to bring food from home to eat in the
Great Hall or Grollo Equiset Garden. Bring a picnic lunch! Please
remember food and drink cannot be consumed in NGV Kids exhibitions
or other Gallery spaces, for the protection of works of art on
display.
PARENT FACILITIES At NGV International, a dedicated parents’
room provides a quiet space for families, plus a microwave and
private feeding space. Breastfeeding anywhere you feel comfortable
is welcome at NGV.

NGV International and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. For

INDIGENOUS HIP HOP PROJECTSHip-hop began in New York City in the
1970s and is celebrated by people all over the world. Feel the
power of the beat and dance to the rhythm of this energetic crew of
hip-hop dancers! Crump, lock and spin – let’s see your hip-hop
moves. Based in the suburb of Brunswick, Indigenous Hip Hop
Projects is a creative team of artists who chiefly work with
Indigenous communities across Australia, inspiring the next

KIDS DISCO PARTIESCalling all kids – it’s time to disco! Trent
Ray from Kids Disco Parties leads the group of grooving teachers in
a performance to get everyone movin’ and shakin’ to popular songs.
Previous dance experience is not necessary; with easy-to-follow
moves, children as young as two can join in and bop to a playlist

Indigenous Hip Hop Projects
WANDER, DRAW, EXPLORE GHOSTPATROLMelbourne-based artist David
Booth, also known as Ghostpatrol, takes over the Great Hall with
his interactive installation. Inspired by Keith Haring’s use of
chalk on the streets of New York City and Leonard French’s
colourful stained-glass ceiling in the Great Hall, his geometric
characters are ready for children to fill with their chalk

LITTLE GEMS UNDERGROUND SUNDAEFashion paper into jewellery with
Melbourne contemporary jeweller Annemieke Ytsma from Underground
Sundae. With a DIY approach Annemieke takes everyday objects and
vintage jewels and turns them into delicate jewellery with an edge.
Inspired by the jewellery designer’s imagery, everyone is invited
to create a neckpiece to wear with pride at this year’s Festival.

RELAXED MORNINGSRelaxed sessions are an opportunity for visitors
with autism, sensory sensitivities or disability to have a quieter
Gallery experience, with fewer people and reduced noise. Starring
KAWS’s character BFF, children’s exhibition KAWS: PLAYTIME opens
early to welcome children and families to enjoy a relaxed session
each weekday of the NGV Kids Summer Festival. Young visitors can

PORTRAIT MODE BECI ORPINMelbourne designer, illustrator and
author Beci Orpin shares her interest in geometric designs and ways
to make colour pop in this paper portrait-making activity. Created
by Beci for the NGV Kids Summer Festival, this activity provides
everyone with an opportunity to make art as they cut, paste and
play with collage to form colourful portraits of themselves and
