NGT - National Green Tribunal is a statutory body established by a Government

Notification using the powers of Section 3 of the NGT Act 2010. It is a special fast-track

court to handle the expeditious disposal of the cases pertaining to environmental issues.

It has been established to assure the right to a healthy environment.

NGT imposed a complete ban on burning of waste in open places, including at landfill sites

across the country and announced a fine of Rs.25,000/- on each incident of bulk waste

burning. The green panel’s judgment was given on the petition seeking directions to local

bodies in states and Centre for improving solid

waste management methods. For each such

incident, violators will pay environmental

compensation of Rs. 5,000 in case of simple

burning and Rs. 25,000 in case of bulk waste

burning, States and UTs are to enforce and

implement Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016

in a time-bound manner.

Union Environment Ministry and all States must :

• Pass appropriate directions in relation to the ban on short-

life Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and chlorinated plastics within

a period of six months.

• Establish and operationalize plants for processing and

disposal of the waste and selection and specifications of

landfill sites.

• Ensure that non-biodegradable waste and non-recyclable

plastic are segregated from the landfill sites. It must be

used for construction of roads and embankments in all

road projects all over country.

Currently about 300 million tons of plastic are produced each year out of which only 10%

is properly recycled and reused. The rest ends up as waste in landfills or as litter in our

natural environment, where it leaches dangerous chemicals into the nearby soil and water,

endangering human and wildlife alike.

Plastic products emit tons of greenhouse gases during

their production phase, accelerating climate change

and polluting the local air.

Plastic does not bio-degrade like other organic materials

such as wood and paper. Instead, over time plastic

just breaks into smaller and smaller pieces. Because

of this, every single piece of plastic ever made is still

present today in one form or another.

In the last decade plastic has become so popular that

from 2002-2012 humans produced more plastic than

they did in the entire 20th century!

Each year millions of marine animals and birds die from

ingesting and choking on plastic.

STOP USING ALTOGETHER

Stop using unnecessary plastic products such as

bags and bottles. Instead use reusable bags,

bottles, silverware, dishes, cleaning tools, and

other products that are alternatives to plastic.

RECYCLE

But recycling is not the only solution. We have

to cut back on the amount of plastic we

produce and use.

It is time to end our obsession with plastic and

start protecting our environment.

Relying on over-the-counter medication to treat headaches and migraines is something we

do all the time. But how right is this practice? While a headache is a throbbing pain,

migraine is a more severe condition. Stress, anxiety, tension or emotional episodes are the

main causes of a headache. A migraine is a condition where the blood vessels in the brain

expand and release chemicals from the nerve fibers, which result in inflammation and

severe pain. There are many ways that can effectively cure these common pains, one of

which is knowing the right acupressure points.

SHOULDER HAND FOOT

This point is located between the two neck muscles that join together,

where the neck meets the skull. Gently massage it. This helps in

relieving nasal congestion, pain in eyes, ears, throat, headaches and

migraines.

This point is two fingers below the base of your skull. Feel the muscles

present on both sides of the spine. Slowly massage the area and get

relief from neck pain, insomnia, stress, headaches and migraine.

Locate a muscle between

the edge of the shoulder

and base of your neck.

Pressing this area relieves

neck pa i n , reduces

stiffness in neck and

shoulder and helps with

migraines and headaches.

This point is located

between the thumb and

index finger. Stimulating

this point helps in reducing

muscle tension, relieving

stress, headaches and

migraine.

This acupressure point is

located between the big

toe and the second toe.

Apply gentle pressure on

this point and get relief

from headache, arthritis,

migraine and even foot

cramps.

Note - If you are in a situation where you are not sure about the use and results of

acupressure, it is always recommended that you seek advice of a health care professional

or acupressure therapist.
