Novel crossover project involving local tourism, film, fashion and innovative
technology elites
Ngong Ping 360, Executive Director of Edko Films Ltd. and Monster Hunt financier
Mr Bill Kong, and Vivienne Tam have something in common: they have Hong
Kong origins but have achieved international acclaim. Ngong Ping 360 is one of
a kind in Asia and has been recognised as among the world’s 10 best cable car
experiences by the international media, including The Daily Telegraph in the UK,
CNN.com in the USA and USA Today. Mr Kong is dedicated to promoting Hong
Kong films to the international film industry. He has been named “The Most
Influential Independent Distributor in Asia” and rated “The Most Successful
Producer in Asia” by Time magazine. Vivienne Tam has been named among the
“25 Top Chinese-Americans in Business” by Forbes magazine. Added to this
impressive trio is the Hong Kong start-up corporation, which is staffed by a host
of local talent in creative design, digital marketing and computer software
design, and is responsible for creating VR 360. This cross-sector collaboration
demonstrates the flexibility and team spirit of the Hong Kong people, and VR 360
will thus support the development of the local tourism, film, fashion and creative
industries.
The opening ceremony of VR 360 was held today. The officiating guests
included Dr Stella Kwan, Managing Director of Ngong Ping 360, Mr Edward Yau,
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region, Ms Becky Ip, Deputy Executive Director of Hong
Kong Tourism Board, Mr Bill Kong, Executive Director of Edko Films Ltd., and Mr
Pakho Chau and Ms Cherry Ngan, Monster Hunt 2 voice artists for the main casts.
At the ceremony, Dr Kwan expressed her pleasure about the collaboration with
the representatives from various sectors in Hong Kong. She said that “there are
many talents in Hong Kong. Mr Kong and Ms Tam show the fighting spirit of the
Hong Kong people. They have made names for themselves in the international
film and fashion industries and have become the pride of Hong Kong. As a
world-class tourist attraction, Ngong Ping 360 has always been an advocate for
the local creative industry. VR 360 is a collaboration with a group of young
people full of ideas and energy. It is wonderful that the project can offer a
number of unique multi-media games in a limited space. This fully reflects the
creativity and flexibility of the Hong Kong people”. Dr Kwan went on to say that
“to tie in with the government’s recent ‘Development Blueprint for Hong Kong's
Tourism Industry’, we have worked on this HK$4 million project for a year to
support local creativity and smart tourism. VR 360 shows a number of scenes
with Hong Kong characteristics, and we hope to bring guests a brand new
Hong-Kong-style travel experience. This crossover project is expected to attract
local and overseas visits and to add new elements to Hong Kong’s tourism
industry”.
Mr Yau said as one of the most important tourist attractions in Hong Kong,
Ngong Ping 360 strives to provide high quality service to its visitors. With the
completion of the Rope Replacement Project in 2017, Ngong Ping 360 is set to
provide visitors and the public with a safer, more reliable and comfortable cable
car service. He believed that the opening of VR 360 will attract even more
visitors to try this cable car journey which has been recognised by the overseas
tourism sector and media as one of the 10 most amazing rides around the world.
Ms Ip said that the Hong Kong Tourism Board fully supports the project. “The
Board strives to speed up Hong Kong’s tourism development and is dedicated
to promoting the Hong Kong brand to tourists worldwide. It is glad that Ngong
Ping 360 has launched VR 360, a crossover project combining Hong Kong
characteristics and innovative technology. I believe that this long-term project
will effectively attract local and international guests.”
Mr Kong remarked positively on the collaboration. “Directed by Hong Kong
director Raman Hui, Monster Hunt and the soon-to-be-released Monster Hunt 2
saw the creation of lifelike visual effects by top-notch computer graphics talents.
Combined with live-action performances, the movie brought Wuba and other
monsters from the Eastern illusion world to the big screen in front of a wide
audience. Once I knew there would be a novel crossover project, which blends
tourism, film, fashion and innovative technology, initiated by Ngong Ping 360, I
immediately believed Monster Hunt 2 could be part of this sensory experience
that represents Hong Kong. Monster Hunt 2 will be released in Hong Kong and
around the world very soon. I believe that Wuba will blend into our lives in
various ways and become one of the representative Hong Kong movie
characters.”
First motion-detection Active VR system in Hong Kong
Play Hide-and-seek with Wuba
Play Hide-and-seek with Wuba introduces the
first motion-detection Active VR system in
Hong Kong. With the VR indoor positioning
technology, participants will be transported
instantly from Ngong Ping Village to downtown
Mong Kok. Players will play hide-and-seek with
Wuba and other Monster Hunt 2 characters
using a VR gear and a controller. The players
can see each other but play their own game,
increasing the excitement.
First environmental and interactive Cinematic Wishing Shrine
Combining brand new technology with the
traditional Hong Kong native customs, the
Cinematic Wishing Shrine uses projection,
multi-media interactive devices and motion
detection technology that allows guests to
wish good luck for the new year. Guests will be
able to write their wishes and hopes on joss
paper, put them into the holographic scanner
and throw them to the Cinematic Wishing
Shrine so they appear on the big screen. This brand new wishing method
incorporates environmental protection, tradition and chic, providing guests with
a new and exciting experience.
Be a cable car engineer
Walk on the aerial ropeway
With VR technology, guests will turn into
cable car engineers, wearing VR gears and
walking on the rope. They will be tasked with
unlashing a balloon tied to the rope within a
limited time to enable normal operation of
the cable car. While executing this task,
players will enjoy the unique scenery of
Lantau Island, including Ngong Ping Village,
the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Cable
cars will move beneath their feet, providing
startling realism.
Put on Vivienne Tam’s fashion and become a
model
Using augmented reality, touch screens and
motion-detecting technology, participants
will be able to “put on” two Monster Hunt 2
themed 2018 series dresses designed by
award winning fashion designer Vivienne
Tam in the Enchanting Wardrobe,
experiencing the latest trends and taking
snapshots in the beautiful dresses.
4 Free VR and multi-media interactive games for a limited lime
To show our appreciation for our guests’ continued support, from 9 February to
24 March, every Wednesday to Sunday, 8 sessions per day (around 30 minutes
per session; please refer to Appendix 1), all visitors will be able to redeem a trial
ticket at the Holidays 360 in Ngong Ping Village. Guests will be able to play 4
major VR and multi-media interactive games at designated timeslots. Daily
ticket quotas will apply while stocks last. The centre will charge between HK$150
and HK$180 after 2 VR and multi-media interactive games are launched in the
second phase.
On 10, 11, 24 and 25 February (Saturday and Sunday), Ngong Ping 360 will
welcome a special guest. Wuba from Monster Hunt 2 will don a Ngong Ping 360
uniform and take on the role of Wuba 360 station master. From 11 am to 1 pm,
guests will be able to interact and take pictures with Wuba at the Tung Chung
or Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal. Guests who upload their photos with Wuba
to Facebook with the hashtag #NgongPing360 and #MonsterHunt2 will receive
a Monster Hunt New Year gift set, a Ngong Ping 360 red packet set, a Wuba red
packet set or a Wuba calendar card, subject to availability.

About “Monster Hunt 2”
Oriental fantasy-comedy “Monster Hunt 2”, directed by Raman Hui and starring award-winning
actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai, is scheduled to hit theatres on Chinese New Year's Day. Sequel to
the 2015 Chinese smash hit “Monster Hunt”, its story continues with baby monster king Wuba
embarks on his own journey after departing with his human parents Yin (Jing Boran) and Nam
(Bai Baihe). A new dark lord arises and swears to eliminate the only heir of the monster kingdom,
forcing Wuba to take another exile. He befriends gambler Gu (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) who is at
first reluctant to help him. They form a bound along the way and Gu vows to protect him from
the new threat. Meanwhile, Yin and Nam get wind of the heavy bounty placed by the dark lord
and decide to take on another dangerous journey to save Wuba. Yet they have absolutely no
idea what menacing force they are up against. The movie is selected to be featured in the
Berlinale Special Gala, which is another international honour for Chinese movies in addition to
Wuba's appearance at the New York Fashion Week alongside internationally acclaimed fashion
designer Vivienne Tam.
