A beautiful venue and picturesque location. The wedding took place 33 steps down a hill near a pond and huge rock formation. It was magnificent and the weather perfect. After the ceremony guests were lined up at the bar for refreshments. I had been in line about three minutes and was next when a gentleman came up to me and inquired, “Are you nexting today”? Quickly I countered, “No, I’m working today and I never next while I’m working.” I then asked, “Where are you from?” I mean this guy had evidently read my column from two days ago. He replied, “Miami Township just outside of Springboro.” The newly weds were from Settlers Walk in Springboro so many guests were from our area. It caught me by surprise, but my reaction came quick and right on. If you missed the column, nex- ting is what I do now and then when I’m next in line. When it’s my turn I let the person behind me go so I can be next again. Yes, texting, sexting and now nexting…what else will they come up with. If you miss a Merge Wright column, away on vacation, wintering in Florida, withering in Arizona or Ice Road Trucking in the Arctic you can always read a PDF version on Facebook. Each week’s column is posted on FB every Friday. Where it says search at the top of your FB page type in: Merge Wright and it’ll take you there. As a matter of fact, about 60 columns going back to the spring of 2010 are there. And while you’re visiting, become a friend of Merge Wright. Only 590 individu als were caught drunk driving over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in Ohio. What is it that these people don’t get? I’m sure there were probably five times that many maybe even more, but the unlucky 590 that will be cough- ing up thousands of dollars for fines, attorney’s fees, higher insurance costs and more are the ones that got caught. Were they caught at OVI check points? Yes, many were. When they post on the news, TV, and internet where the OVI check points will be locat- ed and they drive right to the check point and sit in line waiting to get caught what does that say about the individu al? Duhh. A designated driver or a cab ride is soooo much cheaper and easier on one’s life not to mention the possibility of an accident and injury to you and/or others. Hines Ward down in Atlanta, win- ner on Dancing With the Stars and awesome foot- ball player for the Pittsburgh Steelers is now famous for drunk driving too. Don’t drink and drive. South Campus of Christ United Methodist Church of Kettering which meets in the auditori- um at Dayton Christian Schools at Spring Valley and Washington Church Road., offers one of the most wonderful contemporar y services in the area. Lucy and I being Episcopalians for 43 years gave up trying to convince the church that contem- porary will bring young people and renew the church. We tried several other churches in the area and then Wayne Botkin, one of our Optimist club members, invited us to the South Campus Christma s eve service. We’ve been there every week except a few where we’ve had to work. Wayne gives hip, today sermons, talks 21st cen- tury right where we’re at now not 200 or 400 years ago. Lance the director of music and media arts is phenomenal. He writes Christian songs, sings, plays guitar and choreographs some of the most outstan ding services we’ve ever attended. Great singers, instrumentalists..pretty unbelievable. Come join Lucy and I some Sunday at 10 a.m. at South Campus follow the Connect signs on Spring Valley or Washington Church Road.
