NEXT STEPS PROPOSAL K-2• Serve targeted K-2 students (approximately 2%) in home school settings
through individualized plans, developed in collaboration with school staff and families that may include:– Differentiated curriculum and instruction in the general education
classroom– Cluster grouping for all or part of the day– “walk to” accelerated content instruction– Grade skipping– Early entrance into kindergarten
• Select and train teachers (UW partner ready!)• Screen students using available academic data, assess
with Gifted Rating Scales (GRS-P) and CogAT 7
• Begin K services midyear; align 1-2 with other grade cycles

K-1 SPRING 2014 POTENTIAL TIMELINE
March 4 – Screening completed using locally normed mid-year DIBELS, MBA, and WAKIDS at 95% and above
March 15 – Referral/permission forms sent to schools
April 4 – Referral/permission to test forms due
April 21 – May 2 CogAT Testing Window
May 27 – Identification Team meeting; School notification
June 2 – Family Notification & Planning Outreach
June 17 – Appeals Meeting

NEXT STEPS PROPOSAL 3-6• Begin at grade 3 transitioning to two service models within the program:
– 2 self-contained sites– Cluster programs at all elementary sites
• Self-contained: Verbal and Quantitative Scores 97%ile or higher • Continue current nomination/referral, assessment, and identification
procedures to identify “most highly capable”• Initiate a Promise Scholars enrichment program to identify high potential
students of color and ELLs not selected for HiCap but demonstrating high potential to be added to clusters (Expand Promise Scholars to K-2 in no more than two years)
