FROM THE PREZ
Here it is September already. Where did the summer go? Even though there were not many car
related events, the time flew by. The one big thing we did as a club this summer was the Snooze &
Cruise. We just got back from that this past weekend. I think everybody that participated will agree.
It was a great success and we all enjoyed the weekend, especially the time on the track at the
Watkins Glen race course. Even the neighborhood tour trying to find our restaurant for breakfast
wasn’t bad! Thanks to Denise and her navigators for all the work to plan this outing. The upcoming
meeting will probably be our last outdoor meeting. So everybody bring your favorite picnic food
for yourself, a lawn chair {social distance} and lets’ enjoy the end of the summer weather. Also a
reminder that club dues are payable now, if you haven’t already paid. See you at the meeting.
Doug
LEMOC MEETING NOTES
After a brief BYOB (bring your own food) picnic, the meeting was called to order at 6:48 PM with President Doug Mather presiding.
The Treasurer’s report was read and approved. The only expenses for the past couple of months were donation checks to the Second Harvest
Food bank at the beginning of the pandemic and the refund check from Cruise the Bay was donated back to the Erie City Mission.
Treasurer Jim Baker has renamed our 50/50 drawing that we do at the monthly meetings to Membership Enhancements which helps funds
our year for Can Am. Jim also stated that the club is on good financial ground going into 2021.
Membership Report: Basil Yuchak gave us an update on membership with 45 registered members. Club dues of $20 are now due and can
be paid at any meeting or mailed to the LEMOC PO Box 8602, Erie, Pa. 16505. Jim Baker will have some new membership applications to
pass out soon.
MCA News: Doug reported not much going on with MCA since all the national shows have been cancelled but one.
MOM: Our membership to the Mustang Owners Museum is up for renewal. Renewal fee is $200 with the benefit of 6 free passes to the
Museum for 1 year that can reused for the whole year. After a brief discussion, Jerry Trocki motioned to renew the membership while Jerry
Derosa seconded it and the motion was carried to renew our membership.
Activities in the Erie Area: Members talked about the ongoing summer car events in the midst of the pandemic. The Buggin State cruise is
always a good time except for club member Rick and his Shelby….Everyone has had a good time at the social distance cruises that were
hosted by LEMOC. The next big LEMOC event is the Snooze and Cruise to Watkins Glen Race track and the Corning Museum of Glass.
Coordinator Denise talked about the upcoming cruise and answered any questions club members had about the trip. As of the meeting, 11
cars were slated to attend.
Car show 2021: Sandy reminded everyone that now is a good time to start thinking about our gift baskets for the 2021 car show at
Ferrando Ford. Start bringing the items to the meetings and Sandy and Rick will gather them up or give them a call and they will arrange pick
up. Rick 897-5599 Sandy 450-9401
Gift Card Request: President Doug pointed out that his email account was hacked and he will NEVER request us to send him gift cards. If
any member does get any of these request, to contact Doug and let him know.
Good of the Order: Club sympathies go out to Bill Steger on the passing of his wife and the family of club member Pat Fitzgerald who passed
away this month. Speedy recovery to Greg Feria’s wife Julie on her surgery.
Brig Niagara: Chuck Detzel gave a brief talk on the Brig Niagara and the difficulties the ship is facing financially without being able to go out
on cruises. A motion was made to donate $250 to the Niagara League to help support this local historical landmark.
Reminder: With the Boy Scout Building closed for now, the club will be meeting in Sept. at the West Ridge Fire Department on Sterretania
Rd. If the weather is nice, bring a snack for yourself at 6pm and a meeting will follow. If inclement weather, we will meet inside the building –
social distancing of course!
SNOOZE AND CRUISE 2020 IS IN THE BOOKS!
The 2020 Snooze and Cruise is history and from what the attendees have said, they were glad they went. Comments ranged from the
“quickie” pit stops we made, to the navigator who was pleased she navigated a real round about in Painted Post and then decided to
make her own Round About on the main drag in Painted Post on Sun. morning…(Sorry Judy!) and the best comment “It was the best
$30 I ever spent!” Our wanna be Mustang who attended did a wonderful video of the cars on the track that I will try and send to
everyone. As most attendees can attest to – that was no parade laps we did on the track….
Other stops were Watkins Glen State Park and the Corning Museum of Glass.
First stop was lunch at the Mustang Pub in Pen Yan, NY.
The city of Watkins Glen was so happy to see us, we had a special parking lot for us right by the park and even gave us Goody bags to
take with us. Thank you Liz from the Chamber who did this for us.
Some members traveled the old Watkins Glen road course, while others managed to make it to the top of Watkins Glen Park and the
hike down gave a display of various stone artwork. While other members took in the sites of Seneca Lake.
Next stop – Watkins Glen racetrack
Pulling in to the racetrack and waiting and waiting…..
The excitement builds after sitting in the sun for an hour wondering if we would get on the track, we get to the staging area and wait
again….getting on the track and following….A TOYOTA Pace car……
Dinner Sat. night was at Slammin Jammin BBQ with a few interesting sites to see along the walk to the restaurant..
A buffalo coming out of the side of a building with yes a mask..Sat. night dinner at a delicious BBQ and our almost missed it “Round
About” breakfast meal at Jelly Beans.
Our Sat. night parking lot party had another visitor checking us out.
Sundays adventure took us to the Corning Museum of Glass with some fascinating things to see there also.
The history of glass goes all the way back to before humans discovered how to make it and how Mother Nature did it.
Everything is out of glass and some members got to see a demo of glass blowing or in this era of Covid with an air compressor.
Glass chairs, glass boats and tables, glass eyeballs and a 100# paperweight, along with a glass knitting bag and a Mr. Potato Head –
Jerry’s favorite…
Next trip – leaf peeping in Oct. There are two spots being looked at. Will
discuss at the Sept. meeting.
Cobra Build Project Not much has been happening with the Cobra build as the body is at the painters but the alignment was done on the car.
Stay safe and wear your mask!
