There are many good reasons to know news. We have a lot of media

where we can find any information that we need, and be always informed

about what is happening around the world. Technology today is amazing; you

can know about situations that are happening across the world.

Media and news are important because we have to be aware about

what is happening around us. Be aware is important because you have to know

which of those information could affect you or cause a problem for you. In fact

news can be preventive and warn you about dangerous situations.

News can help to get information about

many topics. I think that in life you have to know

and gain knowledge; a little bit of everything.

News helps to be an aware, intelligent and more

knowledgeable person. News can be very

varied and you can learn about everything for

example: animals, wars, new technology,

politics, science, etc. But if you want to know

about a specific topic, you can use different

kinds of media, like internet and search for that

topic only.

News may also be useful for basic things, for example the weather. In

Costa Rica weather predictions are not very accurate because of the climate,

but in other countries it is very important to check the weather news because it

could be dangerous not to know about it. Also we can check simple things, like

the dollar exchange.

Another important thing about news is that you could be informed about

all the recent technological advances. It could be very important if you are

waiting for some new treatments or new medical surgeries.

We know that th e planet is driven by business so we know that we can be

acquainted about that in news too. As a result, news are very important for life.

There are a many intelligent animals around the world. Examples of

intelligent animals are chimpanzees, parrot, dolphins and even pigs. There are

experiments or studies that show in how far animals can act and understand.

Something important, body size of animals has nothing to do with the

quality or quantity of intelligence they have. It is pretty the same in humans.

There are some big and stupid people and there are little people with huge

intelligence. Another feature that animals and humans have in common is that

they and we can feel emotions, like sadness, happiness, scared, etc.

I do not think all the videos on the Internet are a real feature of

intelligence; this is because training is often the reason that animals do different

things. The animal can learn and act by give them food or mistreating, but not

only because of intelligence.

In addition, there are many true

stories that show animals helping

people in difficult situations. For

example, once a gorilla saved a child

who fell into a gorilla cage, the boy was

unconscious and the female gorilla

picked it up and gave the boy to

zookeepers. Another example is the

dog that helped in the terrorist attack of

September 11. He found after the

attack a lot of bodies and people alive

in the rubble, unfortunately the dog die

later.

We should never hurt or underestimate animals because we do not know

when we could need them. Also we should not make experiments with animals,

only professionals in the area can do that, of course with all the regulations and

laws. And finally love and care for animals a lot they could help you at any time.

What would you do if your couple has a fatal accident? Sometimes we

promise eternal and true love to our couple but are we really making a real

promise? This story is of a woman named Juliana, who is engaged to Chris

Medina he is the reason for her happiness every day. Juliana had a car

accident in 2009 and now she is paralyzed, but her boyfriend's love helps her

overcome her disability.

Juliana Ramos and Chris Medina were getting married but

days before their wedding, Juliana had a fatal car accident

which left her in a coma for six weeks then, she awoke from

coma but more serious than the accident was that she had a

serious injury to her brain which affected her motor function. She

cannot walk or talk well, and her face was completely

transformed. She was almost paralyzed and severely brain

damaged. Because of rising medical costs of Juliana, the

couple's wedding was put on hold.

Despite the severe brain damage that left

Juliana paralytic, her boyfriend Chris never left her

alone. Since the day of Juliana's accident he was

totally devoted to her care and has demonstrated

his love, even though they are just dating what I

admire most about him is he never left her. Chris

every day helps Juliana with physical and speech

therapy that she must receive in order to recover.

Chris Medina participated in American Idol

and presented the story of his girlfriend. This story touched the jury and the

public therefore he could produce an album in which songs are dedicated to

his girlfriend. In one of his music videos can be viewed as has been the history of

them. There is now an organization to help in the recovery of Juliana because

she needs operations and they are very expensive. On the page of Facebook

and YouTube, Juliana's family has uploaded videos about recovery and

progress that she has had, what caught my attention is that you can see the

great love and dedication she has of all the family, especially of Chris.

I think the recovery of Juliana and the reason to get on with his life has

been her boyfriend Chris. The story of Juliana and Chris is admirable and you

can see the effort to overcome her disability. Together they have overcome the

obstacles life has placed.

Nowadays we live in a globalized world, which changes and develops

constantly. One of the most important aspects that are found is the greater

boom of change in technology, which is renewed almost every day. The media

are part of that advanced technology and are one of the most important

advances of the science on today´s world because they are really useful for the

human being.

The media includes the internet, the

radio, television, and all the advanced

technology that allows us to communicate

every day. We live in a society that depends

on communication to keep working well and

do all daily activities like study, be

entertained, to travel and have a good

education. In few words that mean that the

media in the modern world that we live in is one of the things that drive our

economy. Despite that media is the most important advance of science, and

have a lot of advantages but also some disadvantages.

The use of media in our daily activities has innumerable advantages

among which are: first it eases communication with other people like the family,

friends, coworkers, our couple and also with whom we have to communicate,

the Second advantage is the fast and universal access that we have to get any

information we need in an instant way. Also we can get the daily international

and national news without reading a paper because just by using the internet

we can find everything. The third is that you can do all things that were

mentioned previously at very low cost because if you have Facebook, Skype,

messenger or other facilities they can make communication easy, inexpensive

and instantaneous because you can make video calls, chat or send

documents. One of the latest advanced technological tools that is linked to

media are the smartphones and tablets. They allow us to get news, information,

communicate, do homework, chat, call, play and all you can imagine.

Not everything is pink if we talk about the media because this can have

some disadvantages as the following: First some people get addicted to use

social media and they get distracted from their duties, in class and also it takes

important time away that you can use on important and useful activities.

Second disadvantage is that the media in some cases show that you need to

buy and buy and spend money on unnecessary things. Another disadvantage is

when you use the social media and post on Facebook everything you do it

causes less privacy and exposes your life.

In conclusion, the media have an important role in our lives but we must

not get carried away by this because it can affect us and take our valuable

time. Despite the negative things that media can make in our life, we cannot

live without them because they are a vital part of communication in our lives

today.

Scarleth Tayrín Porras is a girl born in January, 27th, 1992. She was raised by

her parents in Limón downtown. She went to Tomás Guardia, a public school

and high school. She loved going to the beach and hanging out with her

friends. At the age of seventeen she started working in a private school as a

teacher because of her excellent knowledge and pronunciation of English.

She had a normal life, until December, 4th, 2010. When sadly she had an

unexpected accident in the national park Braulio Carrillo where her boyfriend

lost the control over the car and it drifted in the middle of the night and rolled a

couple of miles. When the doctors checked her they realized that she had a

spinal cord injury and had broken from vertebrae T9 to vertebrae T11. She had

to be operated immediately. After the surgery, the doctors noticed that she

would not be able to walk again.

Since then, it has been so hard for her, because at the beginning she was

so depressed she didn’t want to go out again and was upset about what had

happened to her. Also, she thought that nobody would see her again because

she felt less attractive. “It affected my self-esteem and vanity”, she said.

Since that time, she had to change her

residence from Limón to San José. She leaves her

family and her life in Limón. But, not just her, also her

mother because she had to take cares of her and

get to the medical appointments. She had to stay

in the hospital for a month and in the INS shelter for

three months. After she finished her treatment they

had to look for a house to rent to. The first places

were not the most appropriate for her condition.

Just a few months ago, they found a place in

Guadalupe where she feels comfortable and she

can moves everywhere with her wheel chair.

To overcome this situation, she put all her beliefs and support in God and

her family. Also, in the street when she saw blind people happy, laughing and

moving on with their lives she thought. “If they can do it, why can I?”.

Nowadays, she is studying in the University UIA getting her degree in English

teaching. For now, she is not working because she does not have the time to do

it and she is wheeling to participate in competitions for disabled people.

Homework, or homework assignment, refers to tasks assigned to students

by their teachers to be completed outside of class. Common homework

assignments may include a quantity or period of reading to be performed,

writing or typing to be completed, problems to be solved, a school project, or

other skills to be practiced. As everything in live, it has have its advantages and

disadvantages. There are also other options to evaluate the student.

One advantages of homework is to assign students to practice at home

seen in classes we have seen in class. It is a way to make people more

responsible, not only because the tasks are assigned in school, also in college

and also at work or in any activity that we could realize, for example sports or

any course about music, food etc and put into practice at home. It is an easy

way to evaluate the learning of individuals. Also it gives the student the flexibility

to perform it at our pace. Delivery time of a task reaches from one day to

months depending on the extent and this gives them the option to make the

homework when they feel better to do the homework with no pressure just to be

clear that you should deliver it on time.

One disadvantage of tasks is that the teacher cannot tell if the students

simply copy it or if the student was actually doing it individual because when the

teachers assign homework, some students copy to another student or in

internet. It also depends on the type of homework. Some are not even relevant

to what is studied and the student sees it as a waste of time. Therefore, they do

not do it with enthusiasm. It takes time for people to perform other activities,

such as sports or just relax after arriving from study and it is suggested that the

time to study is only in school, college or university.

There are other options to evaluate students without having to leave

homework. Maybe you can assess student knowledge through other ways, such

as doing quizzes or exams and gives you time between classes to study for the

quiz or exam. Also the participation in classes show if the students learn or not

and the teachers can evaluate with this way. Sometimes a qualitative

assessment is better than quantitative one.

Evaluate quantitated as in most schools,

colleges or universities that depends on

numbers. The qualitative depends on the

attitudes that the students have, for example

evaluate when the student try to participate

independently if that they say is correct or not

the important things is that they have

disposition. This will tell if the student works or

whether other people do the work for him.

I think that homework have more disadvantaged than advantages. It is

better evaluates with other methods. Homework could be important or

necessary in some cases, for example, when teachers observe that a student

has not paid attention in class, so teachers have to assign a task to ensure that

students learn, but with a balance.

Today we live in a world full of technology

where people cannot live without it. Nowadays

thanks to the internet we can communicate with

people from other countries and keep in touch

with our friends through Facebook and twitter all

the time. But seeing this as the positive matter of

technology, it can affect our personal life too.

When we talk about social media and how we can share things without

even thinking what we are sharing with other people. When we talk about

twitter, we socialize with people we won’t even meet including famous people.

Everybody with a computer or an electronic device with internet

connection can get connected in the social media. Nowadays most of young

people are growing up with an electronic device and many of them are

spending a lot of time in this kind of communication media.

If we get information about how much time people spend checking the

social media, we will find that many of them are not having time to spend with

their families and friends. The social media has created a dependency in our

lives and it has become another way to communicate, enjoy and work with

other people.

We should spend more time with our loved ones than in our computer. It

does not always come with a positive outcome. We should learn how to use all

new technologies without becoming dependent on the social media to live a

happy life.

The story of a great fighter, becoming the first "tico" to reach the highest mountain in

the world, after many obstacles. His boots have trodden the highest peaks in the

Americas. He grew up surrounded by mountains. As a child did not like at all go to the

mountain, preferred to ride a bike or play ball, by the way he liked being a goalkeeper.

Accompanied his father to walk through the woods, but at first did not enjoy it much.

But it was at the age of 11 years, a visit with his mother and sisters to La Cruz de

Alajuelita awakened his passion for wanting to get as close to heaven.

Neighbor Filters San Antonio de Escazú recalls that it was quite difficult to get to

the top of the Cross of Alajuelita and his first impressions were shocking look at his feet

the city of San Jose, but the most inspired he was seeing the mountains and that's when

he said someday I'll upload all those mountains. Thus began a dream that became

adventure. To achieve this, first decided to study tourism and specialize in mountain

walks. At age 25 began as an athlete that is where he sees that can go far.

Her life has not been easy, he comes from a very simple family, where everything

that has cost him so much. He has worked all his life to help his family. Work as a laborer

in construction, drainer and farmer. He never stopped fighting, studying at night to finish

school and continue working to bring the food to his home.

He has had to struggle to get help or get sponsors to achieve all these peaks. At

this time has risen to 25 international mountain and it's not cheap, climb Everest at least

cost him 41 million colons. That is why when he is not a person of much money, he have

to search for help and that's not easy. On the other hand climb the Everest did not

cause a very high income, how to become a millionaire. But if a great personal

satisfaction, an achievement that any human being could reach not only by physical

effort, but also the emotional and financial effort.

That is why sometimes, our limitations are not only physical but also mental.

Having all of our full body full of health sometimes is not enough if we do not have the

mental ability to feel able to achieve everything we want. The obstacles that must

happen in life are what make us go far, long as we do with effort and perseverance.
