The Reign of Terror
By Zachary Conkright Maximilien Robespierre did many
things during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre wanted to get rid of everything from France’s past, so he changed the calendars to have six days a week and 12 months in a year, he also got rid of Sunday’s because it was used for religion, which he thought was dangerous and a waste of time. Robespierre executed hundreds each day; they were mostly from the third estate with a few from the second and even fewer from the first, he also executed some of his enemies like Georges Danton and other revolution leaders just because they weren’t as radical as he was. Robespierre, at first, killed people en masse as a means of solving the problems of starvation and unemployment, but it turned into purposeful depopulation. Robespierre did many more things during the Reign of Terror.
Before the Reign of Terror, Robespierre had a different life. At the age of eight he already knew how to read and write so he went to middle school instead of elementary school.
He studied at Louis-le-Grand until age twenty-three, and also received his training as a lawyer obtained a medal from the Academy of Metz. King Louis sixteenth announced new elections for all provinces, allowing Robespierre to run for a position of deputy for the Third Estate, he succeeded in being elected.

Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI:
Working hard or hardly working? By Tess Fulkerson
Recently, it’s come to the people’s
attention that the King and Queen, though
supposed to live lavishly, have been over-
living. Otherwise nicknamed Madame
Deficit, Queen Marie Antoinette has been
overspending and under-caring about her
country. She has a very flippant attitude
about towards the French peasantry and
seems to not care at all that her outrageous
spending is costing the entire country. Not
to mention her infidelity to our King Louis
XVI, she is just not mature enough to have
taken on the responsibility of Queen.
Also not completely innocent is King
Louis XVI. He does not side with the Third
Estate’s views and many say he was too
immature to take the role of King at the
time that he did. Louis XVI also does not
take power when it is needed, how else
could his wife put our country in such debt?
He is not fit to run a country because he is
too shy and we need someone strong-willed
and brave enough to step in when discipline
is needed.
Their lifestyles are pampered and
spoiled. They give and give to the first and
second estate while we have nothing. Being
a renowned merchant here, it’s insulting to
still not be considered in the upper class.
Marie Antoinette has the jewelry of a
goddess and doesn’t even think about the
starving lower class. As a whole, and as
most of France, we need to meet together
to come up with a plan to end this
ridiculousness. It is time to be equal; see me
or any of the other members of the
National Assembly to join if you agree.

The Stabbing of Marat
By Jor-ja Fuqua
Jacques-Louis David born May 24,
1743 died yesterday, July 13, 1793, at age
50, after being brutally stabbed in his
bathtub, by Charlotte Corday. He did not
die at the moment of the stabbing, but
suffered a few minutes, then later on
passed away. Marie-Anne Charlotte de
Corday D'Armont , (also known as Charlotte
Corday), shall be executed under the
guillotine for the assassination of Jacobin
leader Jean-Paul Marat, who was in part
responsible, through his role as a politician
and journalist, for the more radical course
the Revolution has taken. More specifically,
he played a substantial role in the political
purge of the Girondins, with whom Corday
sympathized. In 1793, he was elected
president of the Jacobins club and asked for
the destitution of the Girondins, whom he
believed where enemies of the
republicanism. On the other side, the
Girondins attacked the dictatorship of the
Montagnards and their famous leaders,
Robespierre, Danton and Marat.
Jean-Paul Marat was a physician,
political theorist, and scientist best known
for his career in France. He broadcast his
views through impassioned public speaking,
essay writing, and newspaper journalism,
which carried his message throughout
France. His constant persecution of
"enemies of the people," consistent
condemnatory message, and uncanny
prophetic powers brought him the trust of
the populace and made him their unofficial
link to the radical Jacobin group that came
to power in June 1793. Many are please to
hear that the beheading of his murderer,
Charlotte Corday, shall take place tomorrow
at around noon.

The Tennis Court Oath
By Hunter Williams
BREAKING NEWS, the tennis
games from yesterday have been canceled
until further notice. There are tons of men
and women standing on them because they
have to pay more taxes than they want. They
are trying to get the 1st and 2
nd estates to also
pay half their money on taxes to. According
to witnesses they were locked out of the
building they were having a meeting in
with the 1st and 2
nd estate people, they
then decided to go to the tennis courts
until they could get some justice, and as
far as we know they are still there
waiting.
According to another eye witness
they broke down the door into the indoor
tennis facility and yelled out pledging to
stay there until the 1st and 2
nd estate wrote
a new constitution to which they had to
pay more taxes and that the 3rd
estate
would be treated more fairly. That’s not
all after the 1st and 2
nd estate found out
nobles and members of the clergy went
with them and waited too!!!! After
realizing this the King realized there is
going to be trouble ahead, he then ordered
the 1st and 2
nd estate to go join the National
Assembly along with the 3rd
estate, he also
sent troops to them to make sure that
everything went smoothly, but chaos soon
broke out, because the upper clergy and
nobles wanted to keep their privilege. So all
of this happened because the estates couldn’t
agree on how much the 1st and 2
nd estates
should pay for their taxes.
