Last Day of Term Friday 5th April Early Dismissal 2.30pm — No Canteen Lunch Orders or Fresh Fruit Friday Principal’s Report Term 1 Thanks Thank you sincerely to all members of the school community for your high engagement with the school during Term 1. We sincerely hope that it has been a smooth start to the year for all families and that the routines and procedures are now well established to ensure a successful year for all of our students. I commend the fantastic work of our wonderful staff who have worked very hard this term to get to know their new students and to build strong individualised learning programs for each of them. As a result of the proceeds from the Fete, the work will begin next week to begin replacing the carpet in six of our classrooms. Stage one of this project, will see all Year 2 classrooms tackled first, with the six classrooms upstairs in the main being completed over the coming break. Further stages will unfold during the term 2 and 3 breaks, with the aim to have almost twenty classrooms with new carpet by the end of the year. This would not be possible without the proceeds of our Fete this term and I once again thank you Stacy and the organising committee for raising in excess of $60,000 so that we may continue to improve the provision/facilities for our 800 students. Early Dismissal A final reminder that students will be dismissed at 2:30pm this Friday 5 th April. The final assembly for the term will begin in the Gymnasium at approximately 2:15pm with the students being dismissed directly from this assembly at 2:30pm to begin their term 1 holiday. No Canteen Lunch Orders or Fresh Fruit Friday
Principal’s Report Term 1 Thanks
Thank you sincerely to all members of the school community for your high
engagement with the school during Term 1. We sincerely hope that it has been
a smooth start to the year for all families and that the routines and procedures
are now well established to ensure a successful year for all of our students. I
commend the fantastic work of our wonderful staff who have worked very hard
this term to get to know their new students and to build strong individualised
learning programs for each of them.
As a result of the proceeds from the Fete, the work will begin next week to begin
replacing the carpet in six of our classrooms. Stage one of this project, will see
all Year 2 classrooms tackled first, with the six classrooms upstairs in the main
being completed over the coming break. Further stages will unfold during the
term 2 and 3 breaks, with the aim to have almost twenty classrooms with new
carpet by the end of the year. This would not be possible without the proceeds
of our Fete this term and I once again thank you Stacy and the organising
committee for raising in excess of $60,000 so that we may continue to improve
the provision/facilities for our 800 students.
Early Dismissal A final reminder that students will be dismissed at 2:30pm this Friday 5th April.
The final assembly for the term will begin in the Gymnasium at approximately
2:15pm with the students being dismissed directly from this assembly at 2:30pm
to begin their term 1 holiday.
Due to a late Easter this year, please note that students will resume on Tuesday
We congratulate Blue House on winning this term’s token system. Our value for this term was ‘Respect’ and we
congratulate all students who received a token throughout the term for demonstrating this important value.
A sausage sizzle will be held tomorrow, Thursday 4th April, for all students in Blue House. These students are
encouraged to bring their normal playlunch/snacks and they will be called up to receive their sausage in bread
at 1:30pm.
Next term we will be focusing on the value of Resilience through our token system and assembly awards.
Staffing News
We extend our best wishes to Kate Richards (Year 5 teacher) and husband Callum
as they excitedly anticipate the birth of their first child in the coming
weeks. Kate will officially begin her maternity leave this Friday, with
Anita Goldsworthy being appointed for the remainder of the year in
this class. We’ll be eager to hear all of the baby news early next
term!
During Term 2, Wendy Emin will undertake the role of Acting
Principal, whilst I undertake long service leave. Sarah Nobbs and Tom Drummond
will work alongside Michael Gill as they each undertake a four week period as Acting
Assistant Principals during the term. I am so very fortunate to be part of such an amazing team at Willy North
and I have every confidence that everything will continue to tick along seamlessly in my absence! I will be back
on deck for the commencement of Term 3, with the batteries fully recharged for semester two!
Robot Song
What a privilege it was to attend a performance of the “Robot Song’ with approximatley forty of our students
last Monday at Theatre Works in St Kilda. Our students were totally captivated by the touching story of a young
girl who openly shares her day to day challenges of living with Autism. In short, the production is a poignant
celebration of the uniqueness of every individual, which has been so beautifully written and directed by Jolyon
James (who is also a parent in a school community).
A huge thank you to Giorgia Moss (Inclusion Leader) for organising this wonderful opportunity for our students. Playing in Melbourne for another 2 weeks before commencing a national tour. For anyone interested in seeing the production, here is the link:
Canteen Julieanne Weir manages our Canteen and is always very appreciative of time parents or family members can volunteer. Contact Julieanne via the General Office. New parents or family members are most welcome. Any time you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

Student Safety
Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to and from school. Here are the important points to mention:
Do not to talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.
Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school, to your mum and dad, or to your teacher, the Principal, Assistant Principal or office staff.
Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.
We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travel alone.
Early Release
All children collected from school before 3.30pm must be signed out at the Office. With an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. If a child is signed out at Recess or Lunch time, your child will be called to the Office and the Early Release Pass will be given to the supervising teacher.
Bikes & Scooters Many children ride bikes and scooters to school each day. All bikes and scooters must be locked up in either the Bike or Scooter Enclosure to prevent theft. Please ensure your child has a chain and a lock.
All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a requirement by the Government. The school regularly reminds all children about wearing helmets for their safety.
All bikes, scooters, skateboards, ribstic and helmets must be labelled, with your child’s name and class. Children are reminded they must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or ribstic to and from the school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school buildings and we request, where possible, that scooters are also not walked through the building.
