She was on quite a tight timeline for this visit which meant that she could not spend the time she wished in the classrooms we had scheduled for her to visit. Ms Aldas was very disappointed that she could not commit to all our planned visits this time but we know that there will be further opportunities in the weeks and months ahead. Ms King and her class 4/5E were deep in a maths lesson when we visited and they were excited to share some of their work with our visitor. During her visit to our school a number of our admin team were able to share aspects of our curriculum projects that we are engaged in thus far. We look forward to Ms Aldas’ next visit to our school. Next Tuesday Mrs Fletcher, Miss Maynard and I will be heading to Toowoomba for the Darling Downs Track and Field championships. As expected there is a strong Bunya team competing and we are hopeful that some of our students will find themselves being selected in the DD team competing at the State Championships later in the year. We will provide a full update at the conclusion of this event next week. Ann Korab our education consultant from Melbourne has been in our school for the latter part of this week and once again has been working with small groups or individual teachers around our literacy practices. On this occasion she has spent time with some of our newest teachers to help them build alignment and skills around all aspects of our curriculum practices. We are very pleased to have Ann once again in our school. Her wealth of experience working in schools across Australia and the world is something that we value greatly. The Wonder of Science Ambassadors were in our school yesterday working with students in Years Five and Six. We always enjoy having these individuals in our school as they inspire and encourage many aspects of our STEM program. We look forward to having many of these people back in our school when we host the district Wonder of Science day in our hall on June 26. Thanks to Mrs Santsingh for the vast amount of work that she has put into coordinating this great science event. Our next P&C meeting will take place on Monday evening from 7pm in the Admin building. We look forward to seeing you there for this meeting, which should take about 1 hour to complete. We are fortunate to have a vibrant P&C that contributes so very much to our school. Don’t forget our P-3 Athletics Carnival taking place from 10:30 am on Tuesday 25 June. This is a wonderful opportunity for these students to engage in the full range of athletics activities and without doubt it will be a great deal of fun. I encourage everyone to join us at some stage for this exciting activity. As you would expect at this time of year our teachers have been busy completing assessment and report cards. We expect to issue these both in hard copy and electronic format during the last week of term. If you have not provided our team with your current email address please chat with one of the office staff to update our records. Til next week Dave

6C- Sizing Up Earthquakes !!
The students in 6C have been working hard, designing and constructing their Seismometers. The Science Unit has involved learning about Earthquakes, what they are, where they occur and why they occur. Students have worked in groups to create a seismometer that will detect movement if a earthquake were to occur. The students simulated an earthquake through shaking and rocking their seismometers so as the seismograph of the earthquake could be recorded on their paper, as it scrolled through. The students have done an amazing job with the designs and constructions.

Mindfulness What is mindfulness? Mindfulness means moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience, without judgment. It’s a state of being, rather than a trait. Rooted in Eastern traditions, this non-judgmental awareness encourages us to slow down, focus on the present and accept things as they are. When we do this, we’re less distracted by thoughts of the future and the past, which can often make us worry and stop us from enjoying the present moment. Mindfulness is very simple It’s a practical way to notice thoughts, physical sensations, sights, sounds, smells or anything that you might not normally notice. Despite this simplicity, it doesn’t come easily to us. You’ve probably noticed that children and young people are much better at being mindful. While we might be hurrying them to get to school on time, they’ll stop to look at butterflies, flowers or bugs and be immersed in that moment, with no worries about the past or fu-ture. As adults, however, we’re often thinking about what we need to do next or what we wish we’d done differently. Mindfulness takes practice It’s about learning to control where our attention lies, rather than allowing it to be dominated by concerns which take us away from experiencing the present moment. It allows us to stay open, curious and flexible about the moment that we’re in. What are the benefits? Mindfulness is a clinically proven tool to support your wellbeing and mental health. It can help you feel calmer, bring clarity and enhance your creativity and awareness. Research has found many other benefits, including: ♦ reduced rumination (continuously thinking about upsetting situations and things) ♦ reduced stress, anxiety and depression ♦ improved focus and working memory (being able to recall and use relevant information) ♦ improved immune function (resistance to disease) ♦ increased self-awareness, social awareness and self-confidence.

This Term in PE
Recently in PE, students participated in the Aussie Hoops Basketball Clinic with Coach Pop Dickerson. Students
engaged in various dribbling activities aimed at developing their accuracy and control when handling a ball. Students also
had the opportunity to shot hoops and participate in a full game of basketball against fellow classmates.
Shadow Puppet Fun Throughout Term Two, students in 5D have been making discoveries about 'Light'. From the information learnt, we have formed groups to create a play based around a light phenomena. We have written the scripts for the plays, designed a shadow puppet and we can't wait to perform for our class audiences. LIGHTS, CAMERA, .....SHADOW PUPPET ACTION!
