“Lunch & Learn” with Dietitian Kathy Weidner
Tuesday, June 25, 2019 12:00 pm Garden Room
Topic: “Celebrating Summer: The Mediterranean Diet”
The Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) was given the title of “the Best Diet Overall” in
2019 by the U.S. News and World Report. The MedDiet promotes liberal intake of olive oil, fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and fish making it a diet naturally high in nutrients and fiber and low in saturated fats. The emphasis is on plant based foods. While fairly unstructured and open to a variety of versions based on the different regions in the Mediterranean, it is heart healthy and linked to better control of type 2 diabetes and body weight. Summer is a great time to incorporate the MedDiet principles into your eating pattern due to the abundance of local fruits and vegetables available at the grocery store, farmers’ markets, and here at the Cypress! *Please call Kathy Weidner, Cypress Dietitian at 704-714-5551 to reserve a place at the table for lunch, a glass of red wine, and the basic “how to’s” for eating the MedDiet way!

How to Listen to a Podcast Charlotte Readers Podcast Has a Story to Tell
with Landis Wade Tuesday, June 18, 2019
5:00 pm Community Hall
Did you hear the one about the lawyer who walked into a podcast studio? True, this sounds like the set
up for a joke, but recovering trial lawyer Landis Wade (Cypress member Julia Wade’s son) was not kidding when he announced the launch of his interview-based podcast featuring local authors reading and talking about their work. “I had a sense,” Landis says, “that this medium – this podcast thing – could be a great way to connect authors to listeners who enjoy good stories and poems.” So far, it seems to be working, with Park Road Books and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library sponsoring his show. Come hear Landis talk about one of the largest growing entertainment and information sources – the podcast – and learn how to find and listen to podcasts of your choice. He will also share some audio and video from Charlotte Readers Podcast. Listeners can play the episodes at the website: www.charlottereaderspodcast.com. He’s a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network and CharlotteLit and a board member of the Charlotte Writers’ Club. *Sign up under #18.
