The end of term is fast approaching and it has been action packed one with many worthwhile learning experiences for our students. Our Moonee Vale Instrumental Music Program (MVIMP) Spring Soiree was held last Thursday. It was amazing to see students performing (many for the first time) in front of their parents. Thanks you to our tutors and Libby Haigh for their organisation of the program. We have over 60% of our Year 3-6 students that are in the program which is amazing. We would also like to thank Hamper World (Moreland Rd, West Bruns- wick) who kindly donated the hamper. They have donated a ham- per every year for 10 years now and we thank them for their support. District Athletics was last week and Emma has included a report on the students’ achievements. We had five students who made it onto the next stage (Divisionals) and 2 who will compete in Regionals later in Term Four. Please remember that on the last day of term (Friday 20 th September) the Parents Association will be providing lunch (Grill’d burgers and doughnuts) for students who wish to participate. The order form is included in coming pages (and is on Compass). Money is due at the office by Monday 16 th September. Please note: there will be no other lunch orders on this day. Our assembly next week will be held on Fri- day 20 th September (the last day of term) at 2.pm, with student dis- missal at 2.20pm. The first day of Tern Four for students is Monday 7 th October. Up Coming Events Our second 2020 Foundation Familiarisation session for the year will be held on: Thursday 12 th September (with the last one on Thursday 10 th October). We have the Student Representative Council (SRC) Sports Dress Up day on this Friday, 13th September. Our Year 3/ 4 students and teachers will be heading to Alexandra for camp next Wednesday 18 th – Friday 20 th September. The buses will be aiming to return to school by approximately 2pm. School Management System- Compass Thank you to the families that have accessed the Compass School Management System. If you haven’t received a letter with infor- mation and individual parent log-in details please let the office know. I have again included a copy of the letter (without individual parent log in details) in the coming pages. The school website (www.mpp.vic.edu.au/our-school/) also has the Compass link (https://mpp-vic.compass.education/) and further information for parents to access if required. Many schools use a management system to streamline the many school’s functions and processes like student absences, excursion/ incursions permission notes & payments, calendars and important school information. The system is also aimed at improving communication and collabo- ration within the community and removing the administrative burden for teachers so they can focus on learning and teaching and the needs of our students. Our Green (Sustainability) Team are also excit- ed about the reduced use of paper (through on-line notes). NEWSLETTER September 11th, 2019 PRINCIPAL REPORT

We cannot thank you all enough for another successful term at Oshclub! Our numbers are
continuously increasing and we believe it is genuinely because the children enjoy their time with
us.
This term, we have encouraged the children to be actively involved in designing our program. Our overall goal is for the children to increase their confidence through developing new skills
and to offer opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds to play together. We also
aim to provide opportunities for developing social skills and play-based learning.
Over the footy season the boys dedicated themselves in hosting a footy tipping competition for
the group. The winners for this year were Oliver Davern, Toby Whyte and Angus Siega, Well done
boys!!

participate.
Moonee Valley City Council and VicHealth are encouraging all kids to walk, ride or scoot
to and from school throughout October and join the hundreds of schools across Victoria
participating. Our school has signed up to participate, so we are encouraging you all to
walk, ride or scoot as often as possible during the month of October.
What to do? Students can pick up a challenge card to complete throughout the month.
See Emma for a challenge card. Each time you walk, you complete a challenge, at the
end of each week if your card is full you will receive a sticker.
Once the whole challenge card is full, place your completed card in the challenge box
located at the office and you will then go in the draw to win.

Helping Children Take a Mindful SEAT to Calm Down by Christopher Willard (Mindful Magazine August 2018) A simple mindful exercise to help older children manage feelings of overwhelm, stay in the
present moment, and not get caught up in strong emotions and thoughts.
Our thoughts are often racing off to the past and future, overwhelming us with emotions, or
distracting us. But we can teach ourselves and our kids to check in to the present moment by
getting in touch with our senses and emotions, thoughts and the actions that we want to take,
and then learn how to manage that anxiety more effectively. I call it taking a mindful SEAT.
Begin by sitting up, and taking a few calming breaths, then check in with yourself.
S is for Senses and Sensations Start by checking in with your body. What information are you getting through
your five senses, and what information are any sensations in your body giving
you right now?
E is for Emotions What emotions are present in this very moment?
A is for Actions What do you feel like doing in this moment? Any urges or impulses to action?
T is for Thoughts What thoughts are present in this moment?
