Thanks to the Lion Foundation we are now able to proceed with the purchase of new and replacement machinery and tools. Although not receiving the full amount of our request, the Grant received plus a contribution from Guild reserve funds will permit a modified purchase sufficient to satisfy most of our requirements. A purchase order has been compiled based on the reduced Grant and the best quoted prices received. This will be submitted as soon as the funds are received. Yet another blade replacement was necessary for the Jet bandsaw. The condition of the blade suggested improper use. This saw is for RESAW use only and not for use with used wood. Proper use of the saw was demonstrated at the Guild meeting. We will make a practice of demonstrating the proper use of Guild machinery at Guild meetings. Workshop safety. Although it has been a requirement the Executive Committee passed a resolution that Eye protection - safety glasses or a face shield - must be worn by all school groups. GROUP ACTIVITIESGroup One: Woodcarvers 2nd & 4th Monday of the month, 9.30 am to 3.00pm.
At the final meeting in February we had a number of chip carved coasters on display. Gavin had experimented with chip carving using MDF & was surprised to find it was not the easy option as expected because of soft spots in the wood!
There was then a good showing of 15 carvers at the first meeting in March. It was great to have Pat Temara join us from Rotorua for the day. He was able to cut out for some new work.
Gavin, meanwhile, has has been asked by his Grand daughter to create something for her. How could he refuse? So he is working on a coaster depicting a cat using “Minimalistic”cutouts. It is going to look very effective.
Ivan and Harry are still working on their projects, an 'Alpaca' and 'Chip Carving respectively. Kae prepared more culinary spoons to augment his growing collection. Bob was busy carving a chain. Relief carved images of a Bulldozer' (Chris) and a 'Logging Truck (Geoff) are invoking problem-solving skills!
Another good day!

demonstration on the possibilities of embellishment. It included Pyrography, texturing, colouring, laser & CNC resin work, packaging and presentation. His displayed items bear witness to his knowledge in these areas. Many thanks Grant.
The monthly project produced some fine examples of a goblet with the recent learners showing impressive items they produced.
Jim Sutherland 543 482
Group Five: Scroll Saw, Marquetry and Intarsia 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 9.30am
We had a good attendance for our February 21st, and March 7th meetings. Frazer's Marquetry picture is impressing everyone. It is self framed in Fiddle Backed Mahogany with a picture of a simple daisy flower and Zebra Wood leaves all outlined with fine threads of ebony. Jacob and Laureen were busy sorting out the kits at our March meeting for our Scrollsaw Workshop which will be held on April 14th.
The next meeting will be on March 21st.
