Page We don’t care….We ride there Feb 2012 No 127 Newsletter of the Fremantle Branch of the Ulysses Club of Australia Inc Price $1.00 Greetings from the new look committee and welcome Eric Ilett, Brian Kyrwood and Tony Collins to the commit- tee. With these “new” faces on the committee there is renewed enthusiasm and we are looking forward to continu- ing with great rides and social events. Ron Spencer ( Spence) has “volunteered” to be webmaster and his impact on the website has been impressive with the new ride calendar up and running and more improvements coming soon. If you haven’t seen the new cal- endar, it’s well worth making it a favourite as it’s easy to use and has plenty of information. The bowling night was cancelled in Jan as it was in holiday season and a bit close to Christmas, also the Cosmic lights flashing and disco effect may not have helped our limited bowling abilities. After the last match and the re- sounding loss against Warnboro we are preparing for the next match with a practice session. This will be a Friday night ride to Melville Super Bowl and then dinner at the Indian or Chinese restaurants which are under the bowl- ing and are reasonably priced. Friday night rides will be now be led by Spence with the next one on the 17 th Feb, check out the ride calendar for details. If anyone has suggestions for a “cheap and cheerful” Friday night ride Spence would be happy to take it on board. The last month has not been the most conducive for rides with the high temperatures but great to see there was a big turnout for Dick Berry’s ride to Grass Valley. There are some of our classic rides coming up including the ride to Quinndanning led by Andy Gibb and Simon Beattie. Always a good ride and a good pub for lunch, the boys have been working on making the ride even more interesting. The other classic is the Five towns ride in early March. A big night was enjoyed by many at the Zaretsky’s Bocce night on 4 th Feb. The sight of Steve and Geoff dressed as Italians with shorts pulled up far too much may haunt a lot of us for some time. The inspiration for bocce was “enhanced” by grappa, a requirement to register to the bocce. Some interesting umpiring and play provided for an hilarious night topped off with a sumptuous roast and dessert. A hearty thanks must go to Steve and Kaylene and Guiseppe (aka Geoff Bloomfield ) in hosting a really enjoyable night. Look forward to seeing you soon on a ride, meeting, or social event. Tony Barton
