SCHOOL FETE Congratulations firstly to Samantha Oldfield and her very dedicated and hard working PFA team for the wonderful fete that we all enjoyed last Friday. Thankfully the weather was kind to us – wet enough to cool us down, but not too much to spoil the day! Just over $6,000 profit was made at the fete. That is a fine effort and we are very grateful to our PFA for the work they put into both organising the fete and its operation on Friday. Thanks also to our staff members who so willingly assisted in a variety of ways on the day. Our birthday cake was a beauty and it was hard having it cut up, even though it tasted delicious. The 20 th anniversary celebrations were a highlight, with Jack and Ann Kraan, Peter Martin and Rosemary Wilson-Martin and Peter Atkinson from our inaugural school council and PFA were all in attendance. It was very enjoyable recounting our early days with the pioneers of our school during the evening. Thank you also to everyone who attended – without you being there the event would not have been a success. PROCESSING OF PARENT REQUESTS These have now closed and we are incorporating them into our grade selection process. We received just over 60 requests from parents with most being quite reasonable. In a number of cases, however, parents made up to 3 specific requests within the body of one request. This is a bit much and while we appreciate your input, we will not be able to satisfy requests that have multiple requests built within them. ECHOES FROM OUR FIRST 20 YEARS Ten years ago we celebrated our 10 th anniversary with the burying of a time capsule in our grounds. The plan is for the time capsule to be dug up at our school’s 50 th anniversary. It contains a sample of children’s work, messages from a number of staff, students and school councillors and several pieces of memorabilia. The exact location remains a public secret for obvious reasons. It would be interesting to see the reaction of those who will be digging it up, but I dare say that for some of us that will not be a possibility! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S) Q. Do we have a hot day policy? A. Yes. When the temperature rises above 38 Celsius we call a hot day time table. This results in a reduced lunchtime outside – from 60 minutes to 30 minutes and the cancellation of outdoor lessons. QUOTABLE QUOTE ‘There’s global warming and there’s global warming – losing our cool as readily as some of us do can’t be helping matters!’ HENRY GROSSEK SCHOOL AWARDS Congratulations to the following students who received awards over the last week.
