NEWSLETTER NO 4 - 18 March 2020
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members
Recent Developments in COVID-19 and Our School I am committed to
making sure that our community is updated regularly on the
Department of Education position regarding limiting the spread of
this virus, and keeping your children healthy and safe. The
Department of Education is taking direct advice from the Department
of Health, and has developed a strong plan that incorporates
current recommendations and Australian Government directives to
ensure that we can continue to provide all families with the option
of a safe local public school to which you can send your children.
I will be updating families this afternoon again on Connect. Please
look out for this message, as it will contain more up-to-date
information about the Department of Education response. School Fees
- Voluntary Contributions and Charges Thankyou to all families that
have paid your Voluntary Contributions and Charges for our school.
These payments help to fund enrichment activities for your child,
and are greatly appreciated by the school. Documented Plans and
Your Child We have a commitment to your child that in their
classroom, they will be receiving curriculum and activities that
are right for them, and that the teaching they receive will assist
them in showing progress in curriculum areas. Generally, class
teachers are developing grouped activities that differentiate the
curriculum, providing support to students who need it, and
challenging the students who require extension or enrichment. For
some students, this means that we will be talking with you about
your child’s progress and developing an alternate education plan
(and IEP or SEN plan). These plans are developed to help us use the
right strategies for your child’s needs, set SMART goals for your
child to aspire to, and to review how your child has progressed
over time. Thank you to families who have already been in to talk
with teachers about these plans. If you have not yet had a chance
to come in and talk to your child’s teacher, we are happy to set up
a remote meeting through a video-conferencing app, or over the
phone. It is so important that we have your input into these plans
– you are the best partner we have in getting the right learning
for your child. Assembly Last Friday Many thanks to all families
who attended our assembly last Friday. I would like to congratulate
every student who received an award for working hard and showing us
a GROWTH MINDSET. I would also like to thank the Prefects for a
professional and well-run assembly. Emma Cooke

Indonesian Classes It has been a great start to the term with
all the Indonesian classes and I would like to share what some of
the classes have been doing. The Year Ones really enjoyed learning
the names of the islands, singing a song about the islands,
locating islands on a map of Indonesia and making island shapes out
of playdough. Room 9 have been learning about school items and
describing those using adjectives, numbers and prepositions. To
reinforce their understanding of prepositions we have played ‘Di
mana Wally?’ or (Where’s Wally?’). Wally di belakang Komodo (Wally
is behind the Komodo). Terima kasih Ibu Sarah

School Banking
Over the past few weeks, you will have seen the rapidly
evolving coronavirus situation continue to unfold. We’ve
been consulting with our schools, P&Cs and the relevant
health authorities on the best approach moving forward.
As a result of this feedback, we have made the difficult
decision to temporarily pause the School Banking Program
from close of business 20 March 2020 until the start of
Term 2. We will of course keep the start date flexible as
the
situation continues to change.
Our primary goal will always be to safeguard the health and
wellbeing of our communities and our people. By taking
these precautionary measures, we hope to
minimise any potential impact.

Worm Whiz for Sale Room 8 have been working hard to feed and

of worm whiz which is available for sale from the office and also
Room 8. It reduces transplant shock, stimulates soil microbial
activity (therefore promoting vigorous growth) and assists with
fungal control. The money raised will go back into helping our
school continue to be waste free! Worm whiz is for sale for $2.00
per 2L bottle or $5.00 for 3 x 2L bottles.
