Please don’t hesitate to pop in and have a chat. I believe good communication is of paramount importance and I welcome feedback from you all. New Staff I would like to extend a warm welcome to some new staff commencing at Hopetoun PS this term: Ms Tina Harris has commenced as our Library Officer. Mrs Niki Crane will be providing support for two days a week across the school. Mrs Jodie Rankin has commenced full time this term. She is taking the 2/3/4 class. Sports Carnival Our Sports Carnival is on Friday 30 August and the students will be spending time each Tuesday and Wednesday practicing for this event. I encourage all students to wear their faction shirts to school on these days. We are seeking volunteers to assist on the day of the carnival. If you are able to help out please complete and return the form attached. Book Week This term we will be celebrating Book Week in week 5, culminating in a wonderful Book Week Parade on Thursday 22 August. The theme for this year’s Book Week is Reading Is My Secret Power. This conjures ideas of superpowers, secrets, transformations and hidden identities! If you are starting to think of costume ideas for the Book Week Parade, your child may wish to dress-up as something to fit in with the Book Week theme, a character from one of the many wonderful Book Week texts or a character from a favourite book from home. Shortlisted Book titles for Younger Readers and Early Childhood can be viewed at the following link to the CBCA website. https://www.cbca.org.au/short-list-2019 Science Week In Week 4 we are aiming to hold a number of Science events across the school. As this year was the 50 th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing (‘…one giant leap for mankind…’) I encourage families to keep an eye out for interesting TV programs, podcasts, newspaper articles, etc. as many of our children may find this history very interesting. This is an ideal opportunity to discuss cultural and historical events as a family. Earn and Learn Thank you to all families who collected Earn and Learn tokens for our school. We will receive our items from this program in term 4. Penne Metcalf Acting Principal
