It’s great that we’re all back in full swing for another year at Hopetoun PS. As for most school years there are some changes to our school’s staffing as well as programs and focus areas. While we welcome Miss Nicola Cameron as our full-time Year 5/6 teacher, we also welcome back Miss Tamara Cockram as our Year 2/3/4 teacher and Mrs Kylee Gould as our K-P-1 teacher. Mrs Penne Metcalf’s DOTT provision extends to two days, Mr Michael Mann joins us for one day/week taking HASS and we’re delighted to have Mrs Victoria Hiku re-join our staff to supervise Indonesian through SIDE for our Year 3/4s. We also welcome Miss Ashleigh Kitson who joins us an EA Special Needs until mid-March. Our Dance program (through RRAC) will run for 8 weeks each Friday for Terms 1 and 2 and will be informally reported on as part of our Semester 1 Reporting to Parent schedule. All staff and students have been enjoying our new PE warm-up 8.20-8.30am (Mon-Thurs) which effec- tively complements our much revamped You Can Do It program. Thanks to the background efforts of Penne Metcalf much of which involved communicating with the Swimming authorities in Perth, our school will be attending their second week of swimming lessons at our town’s beach from next Monday. Our school has just taken delivery of thirty ukuleles and we hope to tap into regular, local expertise so that we may tune, play and eventually perform for all to enjoy. (Move over recorders!) Music will be formally reported on in Semester 1. Miss Sarah-Anne Lee, our school psychologist, will be visiting the school on Tuesdays - Weeks 3, 6, 8 and 10. Parents need to liaise with teachers to complete a referral form for an appointment. Work nears completion on our school’s Reconciliation Garden of Reflection for which the official opening will be Friday 29 March at 11.00am. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. One of four seats craned into garden and cement poured for BBQ this week. Sci-tech will be visiting our school next Monday 18 February. While the school will subsidise part of this incursion we are asking that each child pay $5 for the presentation/workshop. School Development Days (student non-attendance) are tabled inside for your convenient reference. Have a great week! HPS is seeking community members to join our SCHOOL COUNCIL
for 2019.
Involvement is not onerous as the SC meets briefly each term. Its
primary function is to ratify decisions such as dates set for
school development days and acceptance of voluntary school
charges.
Membership majority of the Council needs to lie with parents
and/or those individuals who would like to contribute to our
school’s educational journey in 2019.
Please contact the school office (9838 3672) or drop by to reg-
ister your interest.
