Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church:

Through Hill Church, we support three international ministries. We share the vision of Presbyterian World Mission, committed to sending mission personnel, empowering the global church, and equipping the P.C.U.S.A. for mission as together we address the root causes of poverty, work for reconciliation amidst cultures of violence, and share the good news of God’s saving love in Jesus Christ. We help to fund the Bethel Evangelical Secondary School; Rev. Barry Dawson and Shelly Dawson in Thailand and Southeast Asia, and our Mission Partnership in Accra, Ghana with the three E.P.C. Churches in the Bubiashie District, assisting young women with scholarships to secondary, college, and university educations. This time I share with you about the Bethel Evangelical Secondary School, an evangelical Christian religious secondary school in Dembi Dollo, Mirab Welega Zone, Oromina Region, Ethiopia, built and operated by Bethel Evangelical Church of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church, Mekane Yesus, with financial assistance from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Academic programs follow Ministry of Education curricula, but also includes vocational education in wood and metal working, automobile repair, home economics, agriculture, and typing. The school includes intensive religious education programs throughout the day. Please help B.E.S.S. in your prayers and in your giving!

Grace and Peace to you in our Lord Jesus,

Pastor Clark Rev. Clark Sawyer

Session Highlights

April 13, 2015

It was with regret and commendation for her

service as Elder and eight years of serving as Clerk

of Session, that Session accepted the resignation of

Kathy Ruffel as Kathy and her husband, Alan, move

to Tennessee. We pray God’s blessing to them in

their new home.

Also, 3 motions from Stewardship and Mission

Support were approved:

To approve the following people to conduct a

review (audit) of Hill Church’s 2014 financial

statements and other financial information: Betty

Scarnato, Jim Kamerer, Terre Patterson, and Jack

Barkley.

To transfer all but $5,000 of the Faux Estate gift

from a money market account to the New Covenant

Funds in the hopes of earning a greater return on

investment.

To approve Lauren McElhaney as a member-at-

large of the Hill Church Forward in Faith Task

Force.

On May 10th and 17th, we will have a small crib that was donated to Presbyterian Women last year by Dick and Maxine Beisheim in the church annex. We will appreciate your baby items, both handmade and those that are purchased. Last year we received many lovely sweaters, caps, booties, and quilts that some of you spent much time and love. They were greatly appreciated by the recipients. Monetary gifts are also greatly appreciated. Make checks payable to Hill U.P. Church with a memo for PW Layette. Thank you for your help in advance. We greatly appreciate your generosity.

On behalf of Presbyterian Women, Bea Welch, Moderator.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of

the Bubiashie Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the

West Africa Liaison for the PC(USA), in your prayers.

We recently received this note from Lois Apreko Akua Kufua:

I am very glad to write to you this letter. I appreciate the scholarship you gave me in aid of my schooling. Even though I had the address very late, I say a very big thank you and may the Almighty God replenish all your lost and give you more and more. I am very grateful. Thank you. Yours faithfully. In late November, letters were sent to all Catechists. It was a Christmas greeting as well as news of Hill

Church activities. Responding with a letter dated March 13th, Tsokome Catechist Robert Scott

Nyalemebe wrote to thank the Hill Church for the Christmas message. He was grateful to our Kids’

Club for their scholarship donations. Further, Robert was impressed by the work of the community

dinner group which serves at St Andrew’s Church.

Robert spoke of their Christmas celebration, which had a focus on togetherness. They organized a ‘nine

lessons and carols’ before Christmas and on Christmas day, they worshiped at their chapel. On

December 26th the whole congregation dined together and made merry to the glory of God.

Robert spoke of their youth of which ten had just been promoted to the adult congregation. But

Tsokome is in need of a Choirmaster as music is languishing (anyone interested?). Tsokome belongs to

the local council of churches which had just held a prayer session and a bible quiz. Robert’s hope is

that more souls would be drawn to Christ from their locality. He closed wishing God’s blessings for all

of us.

Jim Ihlenfeld for the Task Force

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Synod of the

Trinity and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA. This support is made through a per

-capita assessment of church members. This assessment has been used for over 150 years to fund the

essential work of the Presbyterian Church.

As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family of faith to contribute

to the support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA. The per-capita assessment for 2015

is $39.93 per member which includes all those who have been baptized and have made their profession

of faith. For example, a single member would contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members

would contribute $79.86, a couple with one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.

For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has been included in your

regular box of envelopes, appearing between the January 25th and the February 1st envelopes. Or you

may mark the memo line of your check “per-capita” and this offering will be

properly credited to your giving statement.

As of 4/27/15 we have collected $3,853.99. Thank you for your continued

generosity and support.
