Cath is a Chartered Planning & Development Surveyor and will be introducing the new planning consultancy service for the company. Other Bills

There are other hidden bills to think about, including line rental for broadband services, and TV licence on top of your digital TV monthly cost.

Insurance

Insurance can protect your belongings from theft or damage. Consider how you’d pay for things if either stolen or damaged, and work out if you can afford to cover the risk. We recommend contents insurance, as this can cover accidental damage, as well as theft/

Bear in mind that your car insurance may also increase from postcode to postcode.

Travel

Will your new home have any repercussions for travelling to work? Further travel requires more fuel, and is a factor you’ll need to consider when looking at expenses. Other upfront costs

Pop in the post code online to find the council tax band, and enter into the local council website to establish how much annual council tax will be. Council tax can be paid monthly, quarterly and annually, but speak to your local council.

Gas and electricity bills Find out if the property has a prepayment meter or standard billing. If the bills are in your name, then you will be able to switch provider and maybe find a cheaper rate.

Water Rates

You can again pay a flat rate for your water, however if you are on a meter, you will only pay for what you use, saving money for individuals and couples.
