the meeting and I am very much looking forward to having the chance to work with our parents. There will be an informal supper while we work. Centenary of Anzac Europe Tour 2015

We have had our first meeting with parents and over 25 families have given their notice of their intention to participate. I will publish the Western Front tours and indeed the whole itinerary in the next newsletter. Years 9 – 11 students are invited. The cost will be around $6,000, beginning in Paris and includes a home stay with our sister school in PTI Dieberg, Germany and then Salzburg, Austria and then into Venice, Florence and depart from Rome to Sydney. The tour is in the last week of term 3 and back to class for the first day of term 4. If you are still considering joining us, please let the Deputy Principal, Mr Wanstall know by phone or email as an expression of interest. National Teacher of Excellence in State and Territory Teaching Award

Cathryn Ricketts, one of our talented Drama teachers has won the National Teacher of Excellence Award. Ms Ricketts was nominated by a group of our school parents. She is a sensational teacher that we can all learn from. Sad news

On Friday, one of our year 11 students was seriously injured in a car accident on Memorial Avenue. We are thinking of her family, and especially her sister in Year 7, and wish for her to be back at school as soon as possible. Ms J Barnier Principal

DEPUTY’S DESK

Reminders to Year 12

Year 11 has commenced their HSC study and their subject changes have taken place commencing Week five.

Students are reminded that if you drive to school, your registration details need to be kept on file via the form provided at your most recent Year meeting. Copies are available at the student counter.

During designated "study periods", students are to move to the Library. The Librarian will mark the pXp roll for those students expected in the Library during any study period. Senior Students will only be permitted to ‘sign-out’ from 12.45pm on any early day, with the exception of Wednesday where students in Year 11 and 12 are permitted to leave at 12.30pm. Senior students, who don’t have scheduled classes period 1, are expected to sign in by 9.15am. Senior students who ALSO have no classes scheduled for period 2 are expected to sign in prior to 10.30am. Senior students must use their student ID card to swipe in an out as they leave.

Late Arrivals

School begins at 8.30am each day. We have noticed an increase in the number of late arrivals, especially those students who are driven to school by parents. Please allow time for unanticipated traffic delays, and keep traffic flow in the 'kiss and drop" zone to help keep our kids safe. Late arrivals are required to report to the student counter after the 8.33am bell, and will be marked as a partial absence.

Merit Awards

As we head towards the end of the year, a reminder to drop your merit awards into the Year Adviser letterboxes outside the staffroom.

Our next Merit Assemblies are on Monday 17th November, and Presentation Day is coming up soon. Principal's Awards, the Hugh Kelly Medal and the Marella Medallion rely on the number of merit awards across the various categories. Get them in quick!

STATE DRAMA

On the 23rd and 24th of October two extremely talented Drama students from Kellyville High School performed in lead roles in the State Drama Festival at the Seymour Centre. Jack Clark and Jacob McKenzie were stars on the professional stage as they performed the Myth of Orpheus in Greek masks through physical theatre. Their performances as the two male leads were outstanding. Experienced HSC markers and the Drama co-ordinator of the Arts Unit were so impressed by their performance that they came up to me and expressed how incredibly talented they were and what phenomenal leaders they have been throughout the year in the Ensemble. Thank you for being such outstanding representatives of Kellyville High School and we can't wait to see you both and Jessica Gosling perform in Schools Spectacular later this month.

SEC Year 10 SEC Members attend Grip Leadership Conference. Year 10 SEC members were given the opportunity to attend a leadership conference at Homebush. The conference aimed to prepare participants in practical ways for the role of leader at their school. Our students participated in seminars that:

Helped them to identify what makes a

successful team

Showed them the benefits of working

within a team

How to make the most of leadership opportunities

Our SEC leaders found the day to be rewarding and have come back to school energised and ready to pass on the messages they took away from the conference. Mrs C Kenna HSIE Teacher

On Friday 31st October, Kellyville High School’s SEC held a mufti day with the theme of Halloween. The day was held to promote school and house spirit. Each Wellbeing class designed and created flags. It was great to see so many students and staff get involved.

MITCHELL YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM On the 9th - 11th October, Teneal, Kobby, Cayleb and Geoff from year 11 ventured out to Vision Valley for a 2 1/2 day Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum Camp. Mrs Roberti went to see them on the Saturday and this is what she came back to us with... "After recovering from seeing Geoff on crutches due to a fall (he's ok), it was great to see them inspired and appreciating the experience and opportunity." "Discussions with them revealed some interesting ideas that they would like to present to the executive. Interestingly enough they talked about strategies to improve school and house spirit and some activities to trial with mentoring other students in the SEC." "The other great thing was to see some of our ex students participating in the forum as Team Leaders - Tristan, DJ, Anushka, James, and Sean. They were wonderfully giving up their time to give back to the program as they benefited greatly from their own involvement. Wonderful to know how some of our leaders are continuing their leadership journey." Denise Maloney Head Teacher Welfare

CAREERS UPDATE YEAR 12

Notre Dame is taking applications for their courses and do not use the ATAR as a measure of success, see the website for details: nd.edu.au

Remember deadlines for UAC University admission were September 30, late applications are accepted with an additional fee, ATAR release December 18 and some offers from 7 th January. Main round offers are 21st January and students can make changes of preference to their courses close to those times. TAFE will list courses online from the end of September and some high demand courses will have closing dates early in October. All universities have information days in January at decision making time. YEAR 10 There are complex rules around leaving school at the end of year 10, including the provision of additional documentation from employers outlining the terms of a student’s employment. If you are not sure about what you need to do, see Mr Wanstall and Mrs Wilson. WORK EXPERIENCE

With yearly exams happening now is a good time to check out a few of your life choices by doing work experience. Work Experience is available to all year 9 and 10 students but correct paperwork and procedures must be followed. The paperwork activates a student’s insurance and indemnity so plays a crucial part in activating the work experience process. Work Experience is a student’s responsibility to organise but Mrs Wilson has a database of employers who have been used before if you need assistance. All Work Experience must filter through the careers adviser at least owe week prior to being undertaken and MUST be approved by the school. See Mrs Wilson for all paperwork and return signed paperwork to her for approval. YEAR 9 AND 10 MOTIVATION PROGRAM

20 boys from year 9 and 10 and in the middle of a motivational program run by former Socceroo’s captain Paul Wade. He shares his insights and experiences in life with the students to inform them of decisions made in life which allow for success, motivation, choices and team work. Part of this course, if we can fit into their busy schedule includes a trip to a Wanderer’s training session.

ENTERTAINMENT VOCATIONAL COURSE FOR 2015- CAN YOU HELP US?

Kellyville High School is lucky to have the skills of Ms Cathryn Ricketts in the CAPA Faculty who recently trained at NIDA and other providers to be able to deliver the Entertainment VET Course to Year 11 students in 2015. What we need to be able to deliver the course are possible contacts in the industry who could host the students for anything from 5 hours to 35 hours for Entertainment related Work Placement. The students will have basic skills in lighting, sound, set production, ushering and

others to bring to the organisation and the work placement is in a voluntary capacity covered by Department of Education and Communities insurance. If you think you have a contact who could assist us with this request could you email details to: [email protected] urgently. Without sufficient employer contacts we may not be permitted to run the course. Mrs C Wilson Careers Adviser
