Principals Report

Special Friends and Family Morning

Thank you to the many guests who visited our school today. It was a great experience for students to conduct school tours and be able to show off our school to their special visitors. There was a definite buzz and a hum around the school today!

EDEC Grade 5/6 Lightning Premiership

Good luck to our grade 5 and 6 students who will compete against our neighbouring EDEC schools at Worrell Reserve in Emerald next Tuesday. The competition is sure to be fierce but we are all very confident that our students will display the qualities of good sports people on and off all sporting fields. Good luck Cockatoo!

We Want Our Students to Tell Us What They Think

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. Students from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. Your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion of the survey.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used by the Department to combine data for research purposes only. Your child’s privacy and the confidentiality of your child’s survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file.

The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in any other report of the data. The survey results will be communicated to parents through annual reporting and will be tabled at School Council. Last year we used the survey results to plan further welfare initiatives that link back to main messages from the 2016 survey. For many years our results are well above State averages and well into the fourth quartile. This enables staff to celebrate the good work done and affirm our current approaches across the areas covered within the survey.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the period 15th June 2017 until 22nd June 2017. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education and Training website:

http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx.

* Cooking Program Starts Wednesday 7th June (next Wednesday)

* PFA AGM Friday 16th June at 2pm

* Hot Chip, Cold Drink and Cadbury Chocolate Day Tuesday 27th June

The PFA Team are very excited to announce that a Cooking Program will begin at Cockatoo Primary School on Wednesday 7th June, and every Wednesday after that on a rotating timetable. It will take

approximately 4 weeks to get through all the grades in the school. We hope every student in the school will enjoy learning to cook some delicious recipes. All

recipes will be made “from scratch”, no jars of sauce or packets of pasta sauce etc will be used. We want all students to learn to cook, and learn the basic skills

required. Each grade will be divided into small groups, so that everyone is included and all group members get a turn to stir, mix, etc. While the items are cooking, students need to clean up and do their dishes. When the items are cooked, the students

will be able to eat what they have made......

We’re starting off making “Butterscotch Scrolls” with the grade 1’s to 6’s and the Foundation students will start off making sandwiches. All ingredients will be

provided on the day by the PFA team, you don’t need to send any ingredients. If you wish to contribute to the program, you can make a financial donation

at the Office towards the ingredients. The initial four recipes include: cinnamon scrolls, sausage rolls, tuna patties and choc chip cookies. The Foundation students have a different set of recipes (sandwiches, chocolate balls, dips with fruit sticks and flat bread and fruit salad). Each class will run for 2 hours on a Wednesday with the Foundation classes running for one hour. If you are interested and available to come in on any Wednesday to help with the Cooking Program, we would really appreciate your help. We would like to have one adult supervising each small group of students. All recipes are provided, and a copy of each recipe will be sent home with students. We would love you to come along and help teach the students at Cockatoo Primary School to cook.

Please return the section on the note sent home if you are able to help

The Parents and Friends Association (PFA) are holding their Annual General Meeting on Friday 16th June at 2.00pm in the Breaky Club. Friends or Grandparents are welcome to come along too. The AGM is the most important PFA meeting of the year. We need EVERYONE who has been or who would like to be involved in PFA to attend this meeting (we really need bottoms on seats). We need to fill the following positions in order for the PFA to run at our School – President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and many positions for General Members. Unlike Kinder, parents are not “rostered” on to help at School, but we really need your help with the PFA to fundraise for our School. All profit raised by PFA goes directly to benefit the students at our great School. Please return the attendance / nomination form to let us know if you will be attending. Everyone is welcome. Toddlers or kinder kids are welcome to come with you, as we always have pencils, coloring pages, toys etc to keep them busy too. We have our own toddlers & kinder kids with us, so there’s always someone to play with…..

PFA Bucket of Hot Chips, Cold Drink and a Cadbury Chocolate Break

We’re fundraising this term with a

“Freshly Cooked Bucket of Hot Chips & Cold Drink plus a Cadbury Chocolate” on Tuesday 27th June.

Students will be able to purchase a cold drink (milo, cordial or water) and a freshly cooked bucket of hot chips and a Cadbury Chocolate for $5.00.

Please fill out the order form & get it back to the Office by Monday 26th June.
