NEWSLETTER July 2013 SUMMER FAIR 2013 Wow, Wow, Wow! What a fantastic event on Saturday. We had overwhelming support from our families and our community, to make our summer fair one to remember for a long, long time! Our newly formed PTA should be congratulated on their excellent organisational skills, their commitment and enthusiasm that ensured the day was a massive success. Thank you to everyone who came and spent money, supported our children, supported our PTA and had fun in the sun – We raised a phenomenal £2,300 for our swimming programme TEAM MERE GREEN! COMENIUS Our 58 Comenius Partners and children enjoyed a week in Birmingham learning about our culture. They were met on Tuesday 4th June with a whole school welcoming ceremony followed by an assembly where some of our children performed traditional English songs and dances. The children from our partner countries enjoyed the rest of the school day joining in our lessons. We then spent a wonderful week together visiting places that show our culture and history, such as Blist, Hill, Lichfield Cathedral, Birmingham Museum and the canals, as well as holding a barn dance and ploughman’s supper at school. They went home with lovely memories of Birmingham and of our school. We are very excited about meeting back together in Lithuania in October when we take some of our Year 6 children.

CBEEBIES
In September Cbeebies are in school every day until Christmas,
filming a series based on Reception starting school, and their daily
life in school. There may be filming taking place in other areas
around school such as at lunchtime or assembly, and as such you
need to contact the school office immediately if you do not want
your child to be filmed in the background.
NEW STAFF
Welcome to Nicky our new cook. Since joining us she has met with
our children to discuss menus, introduced street food and worked
hard to use children’s comments to enhance our menus.
Welcome Nicky! We are very lucky to have you –
Team Mere Green!

GARDENING CLUB
The children in the Thursday lunchtime Gardening Club are now busy planting out the seedlings from the seeds
they sowed in the spring.
These include Courgettes, Mange-tout, peppers, lettuce and beetroot seeds given to us by Waitrose in their
‘Grow and Sell Seed Kit’ project and Sunflower seeds that are to be sold at the PTA Summer Fair.
Some of the produce from these plants will be given to the kitchen to use at lunchtimes and the rest will taken
by the Gardening Club to Waitrose to sell to their customers later this term. Watch out for a press release in the
Observer soon.
DINNER MONEY
All outstanding dinner money needs to be
paid before 18th July please.
CAREERS AND ASPIRATIONS DAY
Our Year 6 enjoyed a day learning about university and different careers on the 12th June. Professor Fluffy from
Birmingham University spent the morning in school talking about university life and then we had a careers
afternoon. The children were able to learn about and ask questions to professionals about careers in an estate
agent, hairdressers, football, teaching, nursing, army, musician, nursing and catering. A big thank you to all our
